Yes, but doing that is actually suboptimal. The only way I've found to do a TRVE optimal STR+INT build is to go 54 STR like you said, use Heavy affinity on your weapons like it's a normal STR build but applying Scholar's Armament on your weapon to 'free' get bonus magic damage, and you can also cast some spells I guess.
This worked best on Carian Thrusting Shield and it's still my favorite build I've ever done on this game. You can pick between Scholar's Armament for damage and Scholar's Shield for defense if you're against a really tough boss.

Reminder yet again. You have a greater chance of survival by doing the "wrong" event with three people than doing the "right" event by yourself

Having 100%'d Nightreign I think I'm getting in the mood to replay ER. I haven't played it since I finished the dlc for one playthrough.

I plan on taking this build to like 185. I dont really care about pvp meta levels, just want to have fun with a themed build. For Talismans we got two handed sword, alexanders shard, dragoncrest greatshield (can be swapped for blessed dew when exploring) and godfrey's icon. Carian Glintblade staff seems to have the best scaling at 55 int at 280, and with a meteor staff in the other hand, should be able to do atleast moderate damage with the spells. It does work because if you don't pick block aggro and your teammates pick reduced aggro, the boss still targets them often. But if you get block aggro and your teammates get reduced aggro, then the boss will rarely shift aggro from you which is great. Recluse's cocktail also works if your teammates aren't retarded and don't spam magic attacks at the boss, it doesn't mean that it doesnt work.

for loot, dormant powers are pretty self explanatory while with passives on equipment, you wanna target damage negation on successive attacks (doesn't stack), damage negation at full hp (stacks), the rest whatever boosts damage from element, status, or magic
and combat, stick with daggers for dps and movement, douchess's dodge is super generous on stamina and iframes so it's fun and easy to spam for both movement and defense

It kinda works, the way I see it is that when attacking the boss everyone generates aggro, that relic bonus passively generates aggro on the boss, but you will still need generate your own aggro by attacking and being in the boss' face in order to keep it if the rest of your team is mashing R1 on the boss. If I'm actively poking the boss I DO notice I'm holding aggro for longer with the relic, but that means you HAVE to be active and not be a passive shieldbot, otherwise boss will ignore you.

You get HP, damage, and stamina, with that last one being the most important since it allows you to just dodge more. You also get more opportunities to get new loot, which trivialize bosses.

The other DPS characters can hold aggro while the Recluse does her stuff. If the boss switches to the Recluse, the DPS can now do damage.
The biggest issue with Guardian is that he just doesn't hold aggro well. You can talk all about his survivability, but that survivability is largely selfish.
