Yep, though you frequently wont really be too affected by it in NG. Health, stam, and the damage stats softcap at 30, but you'll likely end NG at about 90 so with 30 in a dmg and then 20-30 in hp, stam, and the other important stat you'll be perfect.

gozuki, mezuki, ippon datara, though since this is the beginning choosing low anima cost yokai abilities should be fine too. I think the burst counter timings is not too bad, for brute you don't need to time it but brute is inherently bad against quick burst attacks, also it can't counter grab burst attacks. For feral or phantom, you have to activate them as the attack comes to you, I personally like to move back or forward first to make sure it connects.

Also, your suppose to not do a lot of damage, its the beginning of the game.

If you have to, I guess maining brute and then switching to feral/phantom would be the best. Khazan was okay.

I'm not a fan of Soulsgames going the "parry is the most effective style" way. It removes any and all choice and then combat basically just turns into waiting for enemies to attack because they'll stop any combo chain you start with infinite poise and you usually don't do enough damage do make it work properly.

It has great music. And I like the world and lore. Level design is extremely lacking though. It's just hallway after hallway and a lot of cheap hidden enemies.

For combat; I think it has great animations and I like how each weapon has a unique moveset. But the combat itself is extremely bland. You have light and heavy attack and that's about it. It's extremely parry (timed block) focussed too so a lot of the fights come down to basically just waiting for parries. Even if you watch a lot of the really, really good players, there's a lot of times where they're just standing around waiting to parry. So there is little to no nuance to combat at all. Bosses also go from more well rounded encounters to basically just spamming abilities and attacks, which as a long time DMC player, isn't exactly hard but it does leave a lot to be desired because a lot of the earlier bosses are a lot more fun but also incredible easy.

The RPG mechanics are also pretty bland. Stat soft caps are extremely low so there is almost no reason to go past 30 to 40 on most so by the end of the game you tend to just have around 30 to 40 in most stats with little variation for most people. And the gear is also generally pretty bland where you basically just wear the heaviest parts with little thought with rings being the only thing with a bit more thought put into them but even they are pretty generic and most people tend to wear the same set of 3 or so.

Overall I'd say it's just okay. I'd get it on sale or even pirate it. It's basically the opposite of Nioh. Where Nioh has a pretty bland world and average music, it has absolutely top notch combat for the genre. And great RPG mechanics.

Finally played through Hellpoint.
Weird game honestly. Combat is largely jank but functional for the most part. The lack of quality enemy types outside the DLC hurts it for sure. The graphical quality is not quite there, and cognition build at least was lacking in weapon options.
The lock on system ranges between perfectly functional and comically inaccurate depending on which weapon you're using (Artillery OTX default in particular can only have been done on purpose).
The weapon upgrade system is great, getting to switch out your upgraded conductors means you can try any weapon you like without having to commit to it. The skill meter thing could do with a better UI so I can see all the buffs instead of having to consult a wiki because you literally cannot see what the passives do if it isn't an obvious UI change once you've gone past that level. However getting new weapon makes up for the lack of weapon types (at least for cognition), the grenade launcher and proximity mine are probably overpowered but were very fun to use.
The exploration in this game is the high point by far, somehow this game nails what every other soulslike fails at, an interconnected world filled with secret rooms with a great deal of routing diversity, interesting mechanics in the accretion storm/black hole hour/underworld that feed into that and a few covenant style quests. The bosses are largely trivial to fight or feel ridiculous to fight (last boss in particular, last DLC boss is not much better), and the early ones are just spammed as enemies later.
For all its faults, the exploration really carried this one for me, its solid on both the larger and smaller scale.

I've started Lies of P since, and it feels like the opposite, much more polished combat and story with completely linear routing and much more limited world design.

If you're melee level ADP until your agility (AGL) is at least 92. If you're planning on levelling Attunement I would recommend using a simulator to figure out how much you'll end up with since it also gives a smaller amount of AGL. Next major breakpoints are 96, 99 (100 for backstep) and 105 (108 for backstep) but 92 is enough if you want to stop there. It gives you faster item use speed and more i-frames on rolling/backstepping.
Backstepping is much better in this game than others in the series. Strafing is effective against a lot of enemy types if combined with a roll.
2 important rings you can get early are the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring in Lost Bastille, it takes a while to get 4 rings that you want to use and you're showered with a lot of levels early game DS2, and the Ring of Binding in Heide's Tower which will halve the max HP reduction from dying.

Be prepared to fight lots of guys in armor, that's what DS2 is about.

I'm nearly finished with Sekiro. I've enjoyed it so much that I've redownloaded DS1 and I'm going to finish it this time, even though every one says that the second half starts to suck.
I also dropped Nioh 1 a few year ago because of an annoying fight. I've heard mostly positive things about Nioh 2, so I'll probably buy that if I still have passion left for this genre after I marathon the other games. I might look into emulating the original Demon's souls too.

Is there a guide for elden ring where it just tells you where to go and what shit you need to get and all that? Enotria? It's okay. Better than trash like Lords of the Fallen and Mortal Shell but still a way off the better Souls copycats like Nioh and Lies of P, let alone the real thing.

It has a great art style and aesthetic, but the combat is a bit simplistic and the stats/elements system is needlessly convoluted. Also I don't know if they've patched it since but on release it was quite buggy and clearly needed more time in the oven. Some solid bosses though and the level design in parts is actually extremely good.
