What you said makes sense and made me wonder if I was wrong, but it turns out that the Xu Wu quest actually has your hunter mention the fact that their clothes are deterrents for the guardians. I think the idea is that Xu Wu spawn camps the guardians so they associate the smell of the cocoon itself with food. I assume the clothes work more like camouflage than actual deterrents in the end, and they still have to walk around carefully.

To say this game-- or any MH game for that matter-- "doesn't feel" like Monster Hunter would be hyperbole, Imo. Wilds gets dangerously close, though

There's a lot to love in the new locales, monster designs, and music, but when you get down to it, I simply don't find the game fun. Monster Hunter's gameplay loop has always been about a balance between weighty, high-friction combat, and traversal/resource gathering. Both of these elements have been watered down, leaving a boss fight simulator that feels buttery smooth to play, but lacks many of the rough edges that make Monster Hunter unique, such as the emphasis on positioning and high commitment attacks, monster tracking, and the calmer instances of gathering/preparation.

If you're looking for an action RPG with just a little more spice than usual, then sure, pick it up. As a Monster Hunter game, though, I can't really recommend this one in good faith

Your analogies don't work because playing the weapons in different ways offers a different kind of fun than doing the same thing over and over. It's not as if sword-only is just a slower version of SAED spam like your walking vs running example, they are entirely different playstyles which require that you engage with the monster differently to be effective. If you enjoy hunting monsters then there is value in being able to hunt those monsters in new ways rather than just being a boring metafag about everything.

何十ページにも渡る仕様変更の書類作って、レビューして直されて再レビューして、プログラム書いてコードレビュー受けて、また何十ページも渡るテスト計画書作ってレビューして直されて再レビューして、ようやくユニットテストして、モジュールテストして、インテグレーションテストして、全部のテスト結果報告書作ってレビューして直されて再レビューして、今度はバグ0じゃないと許されないような超巨大なデバッグ計画書作ってレビューして指摘されて再レビューして、その上トータル何百時間分ものデバッグして、デバッグ結果報告書つくってこれまたレビュー受けて直されて再レビューして、最後に本番リリース手順書つくってレビュー受けて直されて再レビューして、ようやく本番リリースが通る。みたいな。
だからアップデートが遅くなるし、ほとんどのユーザーが似たような不満点あげてるのに、全然拾い上げられない。(いっぱい拾い上げると書類が大変なことになるから)

i just met the admiral and i'm about to set out to what looks to be the final area. but first I've been having fun crafting various weapons and armors, playing with the new HR system. gems give you skills which seems strong at first but... i haven't found many gems, so it's better to go for the weapon skills.
i don't really know if you can slot out gems either.
right now i'm grinding for the anja+ weapon because, uh, maybe something will be vulnerable to fire later? this boss weapon with blast seems really good

As someone that has played Monster Hunter since the first game, I cannot recommend this game.

I went through the entire game without grinding for any armor or decorations, and I did not utilize the Artian weapon system at all. The game was boringly easy, and I understand that you want to get new players, but realistically, it's so easy that it doesn't even feel like Monster Hunter. If the game is so easy that I never have to go to the drawing board to figure out how to beat a monster, then you've seriously messed your game up somewhere.

MH: Worlds was understandable why there were so few monsters in the base game, because they were completely redesigning the game. That phase is over, and there is no excuse for the number of monsters in the base game now. Expectations should be higher, and regardless of whether shareholders are pushing them to develop faster or not, it should be inexcusable to the player. If we don't hold them to a standard, it will get worse.

Then add the fact that they charged you an even higher price for a game with less in it. I don't care if the game costs more, but don't sell me less for more.

2) Loss of Charm and Unique Identity: On the topic of gameplay, I think the devs have "streamlined" the fun, unique, and charming parts out of Monster Hunter. From simple things like removing player launching moves (ex. greatsword's upswings) and knockback explosions (ex. gunlance's wyvernfire) to removing hunting sim elements (ex. removing tracks and monster researching). They added a cool new Clash feature to guarding weapons only to have just 6 monsters have clashes. Even the auto-pilot mount to the target monster which initially seems nice, but now I realize made me not explore/learn the maps. In World I knew every nook and cranny of every map and in Wilds I still get lost at 206 hrs in. The maps in World are beautiful and immersive, the maps in Wilds are boring and large for no reason.

3) Homogenization of Weapons: The same is true for the weapons. I play 8/14 weapons and often times I feel they are too similar in gameplay experience. Why play Lance when my tiny Sword and Shield's guard or Greatsword's block is just as good? Weapons are losing their unique identities when the weapon kits have too much overlap. I suspect the new features like Offset and Perfect Guard are major culprits contributing to this. It would be so much better for the weapons to be able to excel in unique aspects like Insect Glaive being the aerial weapon, Lance the guard everything weapon, Gunlance being the shelling weapon. Players want to feel like their weapon can do stuff that others can't do or do quite as well. That diversity will enhance gameplay feel and make players identify with their mains even more. Instead, when I switch between my weapons, my gameplay is mostly just perfect guard/offset and then hit the monster on all of them. Honestly, the fact that I can say I play 8/14 weapons is pretty telling since if they were more unique, that number would be lower. I would need to focus on specific weapon-monster matchups and practice all the nuances to be effective.

4) Terrible UI and Controls: This one really hurts me. Monster Hunter UI has always been a mess, but when World brought MH to PC, I was hopeful Capcom would start moving towards modern PC game UI and controls. World was supposed to be a stepping stone for Capcom to learn and improve it all in Wilds, but somehow the UI is even worse. The layouts are clunky to control and information is hidden in lots of pages and panels. (Ex. To check a monster's weakness is a chart in a page in a panel in a menu) The World map only shows info when you manually hover over locations and the keybinds to navigate the menu UI is a series of G, F, or R. Also, the post hunt completion screen really should be one screen showing all of the info that is then dismissed with one press, instead of 4/5 screens that requires many different clicks to dismiss. The UI is really inconsistent with when it allows clicks/hovers with your mouse and scrolling UI elements with the mouse scroll wheel. I know that I'm not doing myself any favors being a Keyboard Mouse player, but that's really no excuse. A large part of the game is in menus, start/ending quests, checking the map, making armor sets so if you played the game a lot the bad UI and controls becomes really apparent. Capcom really should consider a major UI and controls overhaul and maybe hire some devs to work on keyboard mouse controls in particular.

5) Multiplayer: Some how Japanese devs are still struggling with online multiplayer features. It is really confusing to join other players (both your friends or randoms). There really should just be a simple list of all the quests that I can join. Allow sorting tools, so I can exclude quests with passwords on. Despite the servers being 100 players, a private lobby is only 16 players so you can really only see 16 people at a time in the base.

When Wilds was first announced, I was hopeful that it would be the MH World that I loved, but new and improved in many ways.
