I have a question about something I don't understand.

In chapter 1, there is a section where Susie fights Lancer. Kris is not in the encounter. However, all of Lancers attacks are aimed at The Soul despite Kris not being there. In Chapter 4, Susie comments on The Soul from Kris. Canonically, this would mean that The Soul dodging in this encounter is something else? Can anyone give some explanation that isn't just "Toby probably changed how The Soul works in the lore after he decided to continue past chapter 1" Even this doesn't seem correct because the end of chapter 1 definitely shows the intention of The Soul to be an important part of the player/Kris dynamic.

It's less about cut content and more about flow and polish. A lot of the attack patterns are sloppier than in Chapters 2 or 4- you can dodge attacks that hit or get hit by attacks you dodged. Aside from the Weather Couple, the enemies aren't thematic. Hell, the world itself just feels like the backstage of a gameshow instead of a dark world based around television. Compare that to how the church feels with all the enemies clearly belonging and having a strong theme- the one exception is Jackenstein who's a Halloween decoration in storage. Playing through two boring Zelda knock offs is another problem. It all tells me that Toby had a vision, couldn't get it to work for a long time, decided to move on the Chapter 4 while thinking about it, and never got it to gel quite right.

What's the justification for "the Knight was TAKING TOO LONG"? Kris creating the fountain at the exact time they did was clearly part of Carol's and the Knight's plan and predetermined by the prophecy anyway; Kris and the Knight were planning for Undyne to enter all along. When was it even established that they were given shadow crystals by the Knight? Jevil met a "strange MAN" and everything he says about the Knight is not confirmed to be anything above second-hand knowledge from Gaster and Spamton explicitly found his shadow crystal in the NEO robot, he explicitly was not given it by the Knight.

Pippins are dice and specifically playthings from Kris's childhood which is the chapter's real theme, the TV World stuff is just because Tenna took over the "real" Dark World and that's implied to be because Kris made a deal with him

Also backstages and sets are a part of TV and live shows so they're a perfectly appropriate thing to add to a TV themed adventure
