I'm not up to date with the lore but as I recall they were basically turned into green humans with a kind of 'noble savage' feel to them, they got a lot of attentio throughout the years but I wasn't really a fan of them. Warhammer orks and especially their 40k counterpart the okrz are much more one dimensional but they have a real charm to them that the Warcraft ones lack imo.
I can easily get invested in the Warhammer ones as a species whereas in Warcraft I was only really invested in a few of their named characters.

The horde mode is supposed to be a pseudo-fail state, like how Karl got war declarations by all of the elector counts for reaching critically low Imperial Authority. If you're getting wrecked then daddy dragon tells you to let your brother/sister take care of it and help them out in return, and if you play nice you get your toys back (the peasants and their hovels)

I think the Yin-Yin part is fucking borderline perfect and hilarious.

The Thanquol part seems a bit too punishing, with very few upsides. Maybe it'd seem more reasonable if you specifide what those new and improved rituals are, but as it's written there, it's just a series of fuck yous for miscasting and only ways to increase miscasts, not reduce them, which means just a constant stream of inconveniences. As a Rogue Trader "always take Idira everywhere" player I get the appeal of a perilsmaxxing, but that has to pass through also making it at least reliable enough to consider, Thanquol should be encouraged to spam as many grey seers as possible as leaders of his armies, but that description makes me feel more like just going with warlords and adding one warlock engineer for normal casted warp lightnings.

generally speaking though, the ai is going to recruit more armies than you, so you have to constantly be expanding and building up power to compete, it's a game of pacing. Also plan on being outnumbered when building your armies, unless you're playing a swarm faction

pretty much skaven and greenskins and maybe vampires are the only factions where you can really outnumber them, the ai gets so many cheats that they can just spam elite armies and grow their settlements really fast
that's why it's good to plan your armies around being outnumbered, take note of what factions are around you and recruit units that will be able to pull their weight against them, and buff them as much as you can
you also want to stop the enemy from getting stronger as much as possible by taking out isolated armies and settlements, because they will continue to grow unless there is a stronger enemy ai faction nearby them

I really want to like Nakai but every playthrough turns into steamrolling any army I face with a pile of buff crocodiles, and the novelty is dead by turn 20. Yes and no. Golgfag is equally free but because you have the contracts it actually gives you direction and purpose, and you can still conquer territory the normal way and lay down camps.

I keep hearing that Shogun 2 is the best gunpowder TW and the naval combat and artillery really is way better than the ones in Empire and Napoleon but the actual line infantry vs line infantry combat is worse than even Empire with all it's bugs, nevermind Napoleon. The sound, the smoke, the animations just feel weak in comparison, melee infantry and cavalry are also too strong for the first half of the campaign so battles just devolve into the usual melee shithousery way too often.
