The translation was censored post-release on PC and PS4/5. Someone at IFI fucked up and didn't show the ESRB any swearing. Rather than doing the right thing and resubmitting the game for a proper rating, they chose to censor it.

What this means is that the PS versions can still be played uncensored if you refuse the patch, but the Switch version comes with the censored script out of the box. The Steam version these days presumably comes pre-patched, but there's a decensor mod IIRC.

Only one of the writers from HDN stuck around for mk2 IIRC and then they left with V while the other writers from mk2 remained and a new guy joined in. The Re;Birth trilogy had the new guy from V, likely as a consultant, and new writers from Felistella for the new content. By the time VII went into production, none of these writers remained. Oddly enough, Tsunako got a writing credit in VII for whatever that's worth.

Bad actors abusing shreds of truth to push their agenda. Yes, this is politics in a nutshell. Those people are disingenuous cunts. But it IS true that "otaku" has very negative connotations in Japan. The same as "shut-in" in the western world, at the bare minimum. Because "otaku" does NOT simply mean "person who really likes anime." The moniker can apply to any number of hobbies, including the train culture that's relatively unique to Japan. "Otaku" is someone with a passion that turns into an all consuming obsession, to the point of detriment, whether to themselves or the people around them. It's when you like anime so much you allow your entire life to implode while you prioritize your passion for the hobby.

But as it turns out, obsessive people will pay a lot for their obsessions. So catering to them became a viable business model. Money will convince many people to abandon their morals. I wanted to add, I'm not sure if Japan even has an outright "untouchable" class. I've heard some things about groups with the "wrong" genetics, I suppose. But also the source of that came from activists, so... grain of salt.

What I DO know is that somehow their businesses treat the homeless much better than we do in the west. And I would consider the homeless to be our "untouchables" here.
