There are several reasons why I chose to work with 2e:
1. There's a huge chance someone else is doing the exact same thing as me, but with 5e.
2. 2e has insane amount of extra content, namely Planescape and Dark Sun, which I hope to adapt.
3. 2e is compatible with 1e and OSR, at least in theory.
4. I've first heard of D&D in Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale - all 2e games.
5. 80s fantasy looks awesome and encourages players to act cool instead of being special Tiefling snowflakes in combat wheelchairs.
6. I will never get to play 2e (or anything other than 5e) IRL.

Last I heard, ComfyUI was the preferred (local) method. A lot more people are into local imagegen because it's vastly less censored.

I'd suggest taking a look at the /sdg/ and /ldg/ threads on /g/, you'll get quite a lot of good info from the OPs alone.

It's cheap low level image gen, when using online free stuff quality will usually be compromised as these things take money to run. Currently the best image gen for free (12/ a day) is Sora.com (SFW only), just plop the prompt there.

I ran into another issue meanwhile, it seems the AI is stuck replying to the same prompt I sent ages ago, it tries to generate something to the latest one I send but it gets overwritten by the same reply each time after it gets a few sentences in now, like a broken record player.
Any way to fix that without starting completely over?

PHB is Player's Handbook and MM is Monstrous Manual. From 2e on, they became standard day 1 releases together with Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG). Those three are bare minimum for being a dungeon master IRL. I didn't port DMG because it feels redundant. Any LLM can act as a DM since AI Dungeon, basically their entire mainstream history.

Using my preset is simple. Get your Gemini API, if you don't know how, look on Reddit. Then import my chat completion preset. Import the DM chatbot. Import and turn on all three world info lorebooks. Using more than one world info books is pretty outrageous, but it makes sense in a very modular environment of 2e where nearly everything is optional. It would be silly to have a 1000 entry-long world info. Village of Hommlet is the default tutorial campaign made by Gary Gygax himself. I haven't beaten it myself yet.

The idea is anyone can import any pre-3e module and make a lorebook for it. Importing modules is easy, but it takes at least an hour. You have to upload the .pdf to AI Studio and show it how you want world info to be formatted. Then you have to tell it to adapt every named character and every monster to world info. Then you have to tell it you want to export every single named location as a separate entry, make sure they're connected and simulate a 3d environment just like in video games. Tell it to generate generic areas for locations implied, but not described in the book. Then give the module soul by asking it what else can you add such as weather, NPC disposition and rumors.
Finally, tell the AI Studio/Gemini Pro to make a big, all-encompassing WI entry that will tell the LLM how to railroad the adventure, nudging you in the right direction.

I don't think there's any half decent local captioners, let alone standalone onnx models. You have WD14 for booru tagging and Joycaption/Pixtral/Qwen/Gemma for VLMs but those are all fairly beefy except Joycaption and relatively censored. You're best off getting Claude or Gemini to write you an extension to reroute native captioning requests to something like Gemini Flash and then have your main model continue off that.

This sometimes doesn't work AS badly as it might, but it's still not a good method. It's very likely certain options will be heavily over/underrepresented, or overwhelmingly picked in certain situations (e.g. outrage/breakdown 'randomly' picked when {{user}} does something unpleasant). Also, a lot of the good current models have very low swipe variety especially after there's a lot of chat context, so you'd sometimes (always?) see the same 1-2 options picked over and over when swiping. I can't think of any reason not to just do:
