When I first started playing I was kind of interested in his playstyle from his previews. Once I actually made him and started using him in combat, his appeal quickly wore off. I got Ult Bunny, Luna, and Ajax all cooking up. I claimed Gley and I like her so far. Seems to be gun-based? Not really sure how her kit works together, but I assume she isn't particularly good because I've never seen a Gley player. I see the same four or five characters, with exactly one Lepic and the occasional Blair. But never seen Gley, Kyle, or Keelan to name a few. With that being said, I think she fits me perfectly at the moment considering I don't really have the resources to go for an ability-based build with the descendants I do have.
I was going to go after Hailey, but from what little I seen, it seems to be in Hard Mode only, and I'd rather be a bit more competent if I'm going to grind her out. So who should I go after next? Picrel is what I got, including the three aforementioned. Also Is there any loss in dismissing Descendants if I have their Ultimate version?

Get to hard mode with Ult Bunny and catalyze her ASAP. Try to go for a build like this, prioritize HP and then Range/Singular/Electric as secondary. Farming these modules is way easier on hard mode as well. Normal is pretty much a story + tutorial, the true bulk of the gameplay is in hard mode grinding.
As for who to unlock, probably Serena or Ines since they're meta or Kyle/Jayber for the memes. I have builds for them if you want as well.

Def scales up exponentially for minimal rewards. The difference between 15K Def and 35K def is like 15% less damage. It's better if you get Def on a component roll and use the new external component cores to get up to 25K+ or just get more HP instead.

You'll get enough defense from external components naturally, do not waste your time on focusing on it at all, especially not up to fucking 35k.
1-2 hp mods will make you very significantly tankier than any number of defense. If you're dying in a few hits its because you probably have like 2k hp.
Increased HP is probably the most basic and important mod to max out and run in almost every single build.

Gley has high DEF since she has no shields. Shields are unnecessary unless you are making a character that is built around them like Enzo or Kyle or a shield-only build for the Deathstalker boss with the Overwhelming Shield module.

The Overwhelming Shield/Amp Control is whichever you like more.

In general, you're safe to just run slayer set on every single descendant. There are some exceptions that might have a different BiS (ie: mage set is better on luna and valby), but slayer is literally always at least good. Rolls you want are always going to be:
First thing - increased hp, mp out of combat
2nd thing - max mp, mp recover in combat
3rd thing - defense, mp recovery modifier
4th thing - max shield, shield recovery modifier or toxic resist

Most builds are going to use 1-2 hp modules which is all the survivability you'll need on anyone. Defense and shield are generally worthless on most descendants. I think Ajax (trash) uses defense? Shields are also sort of useful on luna.
