The Wheel has turned once again
Carrion Woods edition
Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

And also, what new things did they add? Or do they just keep releasing the same game over and over?
>>527910743Yes.
Too many to reasonably list, each iteration makes numerous mechanical changes and additions and this has been going on since 3 fully solidified the formula.
No.
>>527910743Highlights include an entire world layer for caves similar to Agartha in CoE, and a new path of magic called Glamor which focuses on illusions, riders and their mounts can take damage seperately, and of course new nations, my favorite being Pyrene, the caveman to demon pipeline.
>>527911961>the caveman to demon pipeline.tell me more
>>527913092>Cavemen be just chilling in caves herding cave cows when lavamen come to fuck shit up. Caveman nation watches their mommy and daddy giant race get slaughtered by lavamen while trying to protect them. >Cavemen leave the caves and makes friends with demonic black goats that teach them blood magic and how to party hard>Cavemen then multiply and selectively breed these goats into the perfect mounts. Meanwhile every caveman gets a succubus and gooning and blood sacrifice go off the charts. Ruling class become demonbred. Bretty cool nations
>>527914031cat lady hands typed this post
the cavemen lost their daddy and married couple figures to the lavamen, only their mommy figures remained
it was their mommy figures who then learned blood magic from black goatmen and led the cavemen to being the demon blood orgy degenerates they are in LA
>>527911961>an entire world layer for cavesAgain, can someone tell me the actual mechanical distinction between 'planes' and regular caves?
>>527915679I couldn't be assed putting sorgina into context next to the basujinak or whatever
>>527915978The cave plane is full of cave provinces, each cave province has its own population, income, magic sites, and indies guarding it, just like surface provinces.
>>527915978A plane is a map, a 'regular' cave is a modifier that applies to a province. So the cave plane is a map composed of cave provinces.
>>527916927>>527918026Okay so what's the difference between this and just having a bunch of cave provinces together on a regular map like I've played in hundreds of times in 4 and 5? How is this a new innovation worthy of a full price update?
>>527918492Its way less ugly. Also nobody ever said the game was worth it just for cave planes.
Planes could in theory lead to a lot of cool shit in the future. Maybe in 6 years?
>>527918492Here’s an example of something you can do now that you couldn’t before. Let’s say your enemy has a bunch of strong armies on the surface blocking your way. You can enter the cave plane, travel through the cave provinces, then go through a cave exit behind your enemy, and surprise him from there.
>>527918492Looks pretty, you now have to spend a turn entering or exiting caves from one of the entrances scattered around the map.
>>527910743They keep releasing the same game but make it impactfully better.
Final_ReveLAtion badmin or blitzmin if the badmin is one of the shitters, can you set Shitgard and Shartco AI?
>>527921307I will set midgard AI after this turn, I'll leave arco for one more turn since he seemed active until recently, no idea why he is stalling.
>>527921665>no idea why he is stallingbecause 75% of domiggers are faggots and he's one of them
>>527919648You could do that before.
>>527916130>>527915679>>527914031so devs barely disguised fetishes
Sounds good for Dominions desu
>>527922009No you couldn’t, if caves were on the main map you could only move in 2 dimensions, adding another plane lets you move in 3 dimensions. What you just said is like saying that the game wouldn’t be any different if all provinces were lined up back to back in 1 dimension.
>>527830231Is this nigger serious?
>>527922476Its not really portrayed as hot, the cambions are evil and keep betraying each other.
>>527919648I almost never sign NAPs but the one exclusion is with cave nations (agartha, abysia, etc)
In a current game I'm in, the only NAP I've signed is with a cave civ that shares 3(!) entrance/exits with me. I am not going to deal with planting large armies on top of all 3 holes just to make sure my own holes don't get fucked in a surprise attack.
I think it was a good idea who, as far as I can tell this has given them free reign to pop up and fuck with a neighbor I personally want to hit, so win-win.
>>527922574There is genuinely zero difference. Look at Valanis or Peliwyr or whatever other map. Cave provinces are either larger and thus quicker to traverse the map, or simply have massive stretched connections to other cave provinces across the map.
>>527923831This is the most common situations in the respective games. Also, the new cave layer makes certain province connections possible that just weren't possible before, as in dom5, caves took up space on the main map, separating surface provinces and preventing their adjacency.
>>527928206>blockade works when you guard the cave>blockade doesn't work when you don't guard the caveAstonishing insight. And those connections certainly were possible. Is 6 your first Dominions game?
>>527929420The following set of connections shown here were not possible in Dom5.
1 connects to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8
2 connects to, 1, 3, and 7

4 connects to 1, 3, and 5

>>527938542I'm not reading all that shit but cave system is an improvement at least considering being automatically generated for random maps. It's more visually comprehensible being on multiple layers and allows for other layers being added too without making everything a 1 plane clusterfuck.
Could you functionally make something similar in the previous games? Yea, but it was always a custom edit, work intensive and not possible in random map gen.
>>527935784Gimme a break this is my first multiplayer game ever how was I to know a bunch of barbarians with axes were gonna turn my sacreds into mincemeat
>>527939548pro tip, summon some fire elementals
>>527939397Holy shit this design is pure sex
>>527939548You did pretty good for your first game. I saw you carving territory to conquer later very efficiently. You could have gotten massive. Maybe you got too aggressive too soon.
Pro tip: a few indies punch WAY above their weight class. Barbarians are the most common ones. They also bring multiple commanders and they're usually mixed in with the rest of them, so you can't easily hold + attack rear with some cavalry either. Wait on those until you heavily outnumber them, have some magic, or simply bring a lot of firepower. They melt under heavy ranged attacks.
As a rule of thumb, be careful with anything that does more than 15 points of damage per hit. Barbarians do 24. They'll fucking wreck your shit in the early game. They're beatable, but rarely worth the cost. Things in caves tend to be nasty too, plus it's dark in there and they usually have dark vision.
Now join another game and do it better.
>>527943150I could've gotten massive but Ulm fucking swept in to my right and I was not gonna piss them off in the early game
>>527943394Well, there were 16 players in the game. You're bound to crash with people soon. You did pretty good claiming that land bridge, though.
Focus on winning your first war next game. Don't quit or start staling, sometimes you just have to withdraw and let the enemy advance for a few turns, maybe even start sieging you, while you research some helpful spell, build up some other troops, do some diplomacy, or whatever else. You can't prepare for everything in advance, and you learn the most when you're trying to hold on for dear life with what you have available, even if it's not enough. It's very easy to stretch out your defeat and make it so costly that your opponent fucks up their own chances at winning the game, and many will accept a truce when they see things approaching that point.
Think too that you also can't judge yet when someone is actually playing well against you. Might be another newbie who just happened to bring something that counters your stuff.
Also lots of people will go AI if you manage to defeat them once.
>>527943394If you're in a bad war just turtle up and start messaging people neighboring your enemy for help, most people would rather avoid someone going ai and getting run over giving all their lands to one guy.
I know for a fact that quite a few people were eying that war :-)
Basically if you're losing a war just turtle up don't put too much effort into turns message around but only give up once you lose your capital in siege storm you would be surprised how often enemies just kill themselves doing the weirdest things.
In addition you get to laugh if they fail to storm your cap and share the battle report in thread.
The DE release is soon apparently
Soon the newfags will learn how fun spells like Acid Seas and Rise of the Insects are

Early Age faction designs and lore feels better than MA and LA.
I like TNN but I don't like my entire nation being countered by vine men and longdead.
>>528069505I disagree, for example, Bogarus is quite boring, Ermor isn’t as interesting as any of its successor states, and Phaecia is more interesting than Beryros.
>>528070915Why? Both those have shit stats
>>528075362Ermor maybe, it's more so that Emor has a more fleshed out story trough the ages. But Rus I like EA way more than boring LA Bogarus.
>>528076982Oh I mixed up which is which, that’s how boring the roster is throughout all ages lol, the only interesting thing about that line at all are the summons, because Chudes are like, what, humans with 1 more magic resist or something stupid like that?
>>527921665time to axe shartcosyphilis
>>528076006Mindless turns off basically the entire glamor path, they're very resistant to poison, they're also resistant to pierce damage, which nearly all your units (including all of your elves) do. Plus their shit armor means that most mindless chaff can actually present a credible threat to even your elites, and these units are also inherently good at wasting mirror images. Oh, and TNN has expensive priests. The general theme is that TNN has very bad diversity both in units and in magic, and almost everything they offer trades badly against these common, mindless chaff units.
>>528079148imagine getting mogged by ermor lmao
>>528079661Considering you need either death or good priests to crush ermor and they have neither it's not a shock
How can undead chaff be an issue bro just ravenous swarm
>>528079148Just put solar weapons in your bless, bro.
>>528079148A lot of this also applies to elementals, manikins, corpse constructs, swarm, etc. TNN kind of sucks ass against mindless in general because they're like an S nation if S lost the ability to focus fire non-mindless units with perfect range and precision in exchange for summoning mindless chaff that loses to literally every other mindless chaff in the game.
>>528077928Rus seems to be a blend of slavic, baltic and finno ugric stuff, so I think the problem was the dev not knowing enough about mythology of the region. For baltic mythology you could have added werewolf or maybe other shifters, serpent worship/serpents and so on. Slavic and finno ugric have more stuff as well.

Getting forge up before everyone else is a good feeling
Is Ermor still high tier in the current meta?
>>527979253LA Marignon is godawful at expanding, the heavy cavalry are incredibly good
>>528092846Out of the Freespawn nations, Ermor is mid, Lemuria and nu-Asphodel are better
>>528096835Lemuria has early counters and late limitations in a way Ermor doesn't. 0 prot ghosts are a weakness at all stages, elite BV sacreds are a strength at all stages, and Lemuria's immortals aren't enough to make up for that, they only allow them to tread water defending and raiding while the ghost stacks they need to actually take forts and win fights are hard-countered too many ways.
>>528094834Especially the vanilla starting army of Marignon is terrible, it's what? 20 city guards and a handful crossbows?
>>528097257They have really good researchers though, lets you get to burden of time or utterdark fast :) and via their freespawn priests you can pump out a lot of shades, and ethereal and dark power on the shades works great with utterdark. Also the grand lemur has great paths for late age, death 3 and astral 2 with a few boosters can be really nasty, and he’s immortal to boot.
>>528099193I just checked and it looks like they stealth buffed it very recently, it's 15 city guard, 20 crossbows and 15 pikeneers now
which is still pretty shit but definitely better
And speaking of treading water Lemuria’s troops have full amphibian, letting you really dominate the sea in the late age where your only real competitor in that regard is Ryleh
>>528099246>alt 9>fastTheir research is still worse than any regular nation. Even casting Utterdark does more harm than good since everyone will now be killing you and outpacing anything your immortals can do to stop it. And BoT is just an inferior version since you'll still be killed/dispelled but you don't get nearly as much benefit.
>>528099473R'lyeh, LAtlantis, Erytheia, Jomon, Patala and Mictlan are your competition, and the first three kick your ass UW, especially LAtlantis who's the most popularly picked of the five. No one's afraid of contesting Lemuria UW either, in fact if they're smart they'll prioritize kicking you out because you can't recruit or cast anything down there and someone on land is bound to attack you too and keep you from focusing on the water.
>>528100004Jomon was the last guy alive before I won in my last game as Lemuria, and he didn’t do a good job contesting me underwater, he only had one real underwater army that I crushed by bringing 2 of my armies down on. Helps that I spawned on a peninsula only bordering Midgard I suppose, and the only other UW-capable nation in that match was Jomon.
>>528100808You can win as any nation depending on spawn RNG and who fights who, especially in domg games where a couple lucky players will have most of their neighbors go AI.
>>528101403Yeah, could just be personal experience, but I haven’t been able to make Ermor work and I do pretty well as Lemuria usually. Last time I tried to play Ermor I got pincered by Vanheim and Na’Ba who killed me simultaneously then divided up my territory between themselves. Still, I think you’re underestimating how annoying Ethereal can be in the earlygame, and how good their magic is compared to most other LA nations.
>>528101718Ermor is more likely to get rushed by multiple players because it's an existential threat no one can fight alone, especially without crippling themselves (losing so much for dead lands, most of your surviving army dies of disease from starvation). Lemuria isn't much of a threat at rushing you down early and all they build up to is easily wiped ghost stacks and annoying immortals, so it's easier to procrastinate on since no one wants to fight for dead lands and doomed armies that are useless, full of disease but still cost upkeep while they're taking 10 turns to die.
Ideally you crush Lemuria early with multiple players, save some of the population and minimize losses, but teaming up is a pain in the ass.
>>528103948Ermor isn't an existential threat, it's just a hassle to deal with later in the game so most players agree to kill em now rather than later.
>>528099193the city guards die so quickly they cause your starting army to rout basically every time

Ermor doesn't suck to play against because they're unbeatably strong, they suck because beating them makes you lose the game
Is the undead command cap bless mandatory on Ermor if you don't want to kill yourself on undead managment?
>>528106758That's automatically the case for every popkill, but Ermor can also be unbeatably strong because they have a full hellbless with guaranteed BV and 12 sacreds per turn off their cap income alone, not counting the freespawn knights.
Even the strongest sacreds that can actually kill Lictors take heavy attrition, there's no casually wiping them unless you shit out a metric ton of eles they aren't blessed to counter.
>>528107913If they would only let Blood Vengeance work on living units and then buffed Ermor in other ways, that could give them more dimensions to work with, would be cool. I'll never not be mad about Blood Surge not working when a unit with it kills a skeleton, but the skeleton being able to enjoy Blood Vengeance as long as its sacred, and it completely warps the dynamic
>>528108275This would do a lot to solve the Ermor and LA C'tis dilemmas. If there's a lurking beta tester, please suggest no BV on undead or inanimate.
>>528108539Hell, give them a National summon that is a lictor with Blood Vengeance, just make them pay an appropriate cost and have it make sense like they have blood pumping through veins in their body lel

>>528135014Every instance of damage in the game rolls a damage drn against a prot drn.
>>528135590Oh, so if a spell says something like '15+' damage, then it rolls a damage DRN vs Prot DRN?
Cool
>>528136074The + in 15+ means the spell damage scales with level in the main magical path
But yes, and the result is further modified by tags such as armour piercing, armour negating and fire / cold / lightning resistance
https://illwiki.com/dom5/damage
>>528136494Yeah I got the + part since the game actually explains it in the spell if I hover over it thankfully.
Just glad this should work then. Enemy with marginally beefy very high prot units is about to shove them down my throat. If I blitz a few levels of AP Evocations then a bit of mage spam should be able to nuke them down.

>>528209905>playersIt's tactics and RNG, as far as I understand it.
>>528242681Basically. You can set up the formation and try to get a gameplan together, but in the end you're at the mercy of however the game feels like having your players do. For example, there's the whole thing with player conditions that is rolled randomly and has some hand in determining how any given player will play; most teams that had their key striker or forward in the lowest possible condition had that player do jack shit, but then another team that has their center forward also in the lowest condition score 3 goals. You can see times when your defense or offense isn't working and make changes to try and get those dumbasses to do their jobs properly, but sometimes despite all efforts, nothing happens.
In short, you might as well go AI. A team's manager can always just tell the guys running it "just treat the team like it's an autopilot."

Will a line formation split?
I've got it set to attack cavalry, if my opponent does a flank on both sides, will my line move to intercept both based on whoever is closer?
>>528362779the way I've always assumed it works is a squad sets their sights on one other random squad and they don't do anything very intelligent like that. kind of the reason why making one huge line squad is a terrible idea, because they end up clumping together like retards and stuff gets behind them anyway, except everyone ignores it unless it directly makes contact with them and initiates one on one combat
And so ends EArly_Demise with another glorious victory for Abysia!
As you can see, I had a very hot pretender for a very hot nation, which once again goes to show that thematic tendie > hellbless. Sadly I didn't start in a cave nor did anyone try to cast darkness or steal the sun, so the whole "sun is always where the Solar Disc is" didn't even come in to play. On the other hand though, that meant that my capital was on a wasteland province, which let me cast Hidden Underneath whenever I wanted. Fire resistant skeletons are actually quite useful as Abysia.
>>528373152My starting spot was very nice, aside from the river blocking my capital in, which only left me two provinces to attack at the start, since I didn't want to suicide into the throne quite so early. Thanks to some good diplomacy I forged an alliance with Lanka very early on as fellow red brothers which secured my southern flank, in addition to the river which acted as a great natural border. Like that I managed to take all the land from Roca in the north to Troll Canyon / Ephesibor in the south. As I didn't travel further north, neither Niefel nor Mekone ever tried to attack me until it was too late. On the other hand Hinnom for some ungodly reason attacked me with one of their thugs, which after taking one province, got utterly obliterated and resulted in him losing his fort to me.
Before I could march any further, Sauromantia had already taken the initiative and attacked Hinnom in that moment of weakness which made him go AI. Funny, considering AI Hinnom survived until the end and even made some gains, while I destroyed Sauromantia a few turns later.
>>528373285One of the best provinces in my starting region was Blackport which gave me access to water / nature casters. Great for forging and summoning Kydnid soldiers over and over again. The other important part was, that it had a huge population which is why I made it the center of my blood slave hunting operation. I used relatively few of them for infernal breeding and spent the rest on summoning an Arch Devil and the Heliophagi.
>>528373439One of the, if not the, most important factor in my victory were my globals. An early Eternal Pyre meant I always had enough gems to forge Fire in a Jars and summon flame spirits for extra research and combat power. The real menace however, was Second Sun which did a lot of different things for me, a really underrated global. The 4+ heat on provinces meant that my Abysians natural heat always hat a stronger effect and the "beings with affinity to flame will appear to serve you" meant that I had a whole lot of casters with fire/astral/earth all of a sudden, which of course boosted my research quite a bit. They also always appeared with a set of gems, depending on their elements.
My enemies, aside from the funny bat people, were for some reason not happy at all about having another sun in the sky. Niefelheim especially was trying to dispel it a few times, because it canceled out his Illwinter and made frost armor useless.
>>528373582After getting most of my thrones slowly over the course of the game, I only really had to rush the last 2 or 3, since that was when the other non AI players started to wake up and declared war on me. At that point however, it was already too late. After one final battle with Xibalba, I took the last throne and became Pankoman.

Awake immobile or awake monster are probably what you want, depending on what kind of bless strat you are going for.
>>528402671Take the same Asura-pill i administered in an earlier thread. Vampiric weapons is awesome on Kailasa line sacred summons because they have 2 attacks, and makes the tigers tanky af. Asura can help defend the initial rushes and blood hunt in the mean time for some searchers and all his magic paths are tailor made for national blood summons, transitioning you into an Astral/Blood late game. I started in the caves and had an exit to the surface from the start, however I was blocked both in the caves and on the overworld by Agartha, who had also built up far superior infrastructure than I did, ensuring that in the future they would dominate me in all aspects and at best I would get a small sliver of provinces to expand out from. Seeing that they were so invested in the future, I decided to take them over now, rather than trusting in their good will later. Having been betrayed by the cave fatties several times before in previous games swayed my decision as well.
It did not take long to take over most of their non-forted provinces, and they promptly went AI. they still had quite a lot going for them and if they had endured in the game they probably would have defeated me, because neifelheim saw me about to capture all of the Agarthan provinces and decided to declare war. this put me on the back foot for quite some time, and as I was running an experimental Cold bless as a counter to Abysia, who I expected to be the only other cave nation in the game, and who I expected to attack me early, it gave the ice giants advances not only in combat but also in movement, as they can ski right through snowy provinces, and gain additional buffs from it being cold.
this story is already too long so I will wrap it up, Lanka jumped in on my war against the ice giants but they eventually gave up, i slowly fought the ice giants back to close to their forts, then Abysia came through a few turns later after I dithered because I was concerned about Mekone buildups on my borders.
It was a fun game but man I wish the icefags teamed up with me instead of just obstinately continuing our war while you cast global after global, it could have been a real war

Expansion was so so, the greatest issue was that i'm surrounded by mountains and blocked by 2 thrones, still i managed to bag a few highland provinces and a cave mouth with decent pop.

>>528635763Trouble start immediately when Phlegra goes ai immediately upon being attacked by Machaka. I don't know why he bitched out like that considering Phlegra is still alive in game to this turn and thriving somewhat. This fucks me up considerably since Machaka would likely cap him and eat me very soon.
If you played Xib you would notice that the cave where i had that fort was relatively unclaimed. That's because my only expansion path through the cave bar the throne was blocked by Bogus and his goons spawning immediately just 2 turns after i took that province and wiped my army. If not for that i would have had a much stronger position underground and possibly took it with impunity.
I paid a handsome amount for an amphibian merc company and took some water provinces next to me. Then Ys came along and be like, all water is mine and just hit me out of nowhere. Bitch, you only need coastal provinces why the fuck are you taking indefensible land? And in the end he didn't build a single fort underwater there so i could just retake all of it with a few geared Hashmals.
>>528635763Instead of just eating Phlegra peacefully Machaka decided to attack me right as i take a throne nearby. This is also the moment i realize there are 6 thrones in good vicinity, 2 just 1 step away from my cap, 2 in caves, and i just need to kill Machaka to access the final throne. Machaka went full hellbless on his spiders, taking max O,P and tank both death and drain. My armies are obliterated upon contact. I was close to AI as well, but thankfully Asura was able to blend all the spiders within dominion. Any squad of spiders he put in my candles i just trapeze over and destroy. Machaka also did a somewhat annoying thing by spamming 50-60 PD every single provinces, every battle had 180 auxiliaries making it difficult for me to take with my bless, except my God. Even squads of dogs get killed off. But i know with how reckless he was spending money and with spies on every single province he had i know he was pumping every coin into making spiders and 0 magic, and even though he was big he had like 2--3 fort? I endured until Conj6 where Hashmals can just take a province whatever amount of PD it had. In the middle of the fight, Arco decided to send a rather large squad into my land intending to vulture, but after a cloud trapeze from Asura i "convinced" him to leave me alone in my fight
>>528635763With Hashmals raiding and counterraiding my income and gem situation slightly improved. I took back a lot of land from Ys and Machaka. Lost my god here unfortunately to a doomstack of full mages, but he managed to kill all the spiders present at that battle. Then Asphodel showed up and took all of Machaka's left side land. He also went down and took the throne i needed to win, then parked 800 troops there, for which i have 0 way of contesting. I turned my attention to a throne near my pond that had 20 watchers and a monolith. Some poor motherfucker must have tried his hand at fighting this throne and lost all his shit because i pinged it earlier and it still had a lot of chaffs. I rushed for the thrones underground, then teleported 4 supreme mages on the monolith along with my god decked in anti shock, with a Hashmal taking Shinu's province nearby just in case it's a dud and i had to retreat. That's where i said it's my greatest operation or AI because Shinu had 2 gem gens up and desu no one can win even if the remainder of the map ganked him. It's now or never. And it paid off.

Poison is a problem if you don't gear for it, it's as easy as getting a replacement weapon. But it have to get pass vamp drain and soul vortex heal. Skelly spam is the only good way, but i scripted personal flight attack rear just in case, so you have to bog him down with summoned undead first, then get like 10 death mages spamming. Or illusion spam. You still have to lock him down somehow because he can just retreat and cloud trapeze back into an unsuspecting stack

Some went underwater and made Ys, most of the sidhes and some tuathas fled into fae realms and were sealed there when Man destroyed the gateways into them, and most of the Tuathas fled to "The Land of the Ever Young", which is apparently distinct from the fae realms, and never returned. >>528724729really though you aren't going to be using pure glamor summons, they need to fight alongside mundane troops that can kill enemy mindless units. As long as you have a good mix they can do work
>>528724729>>528726357It's not like there's much else to spend your glamor gems on, other than maybe rainbow armor/simulacrums for your mages. There's basically no useful rituals in Glamour at all.
>>528726357>they can do workNot if your opponent is mindless freespawn. That's precisely the problem. The path does literally nothing against mindless armies. People bitched about fire being countered by rain for years on end and yet that wasn't even anywhere close to as egregious as an entire magic path being turned off by a single unit tag that entire nations have by default. Even S has the ability to resist using Body Ethereal and 100 range evocations. G doesn't even get that much.
>>528728697You can at least summon some fay knights that will just die to longdead anyway because your G primary N secondary nation can't field any kind of meaningful mage support against those units whatsoever.
>>528730416well, glamor mages can buff units with luck at least. that still works against mindless units
>>528730416"Entire" nation is a bit of an exaggeration. The mindless freespawn nations are all undead, so the best mage support against their mundane troops is going to be priests anyway. Also, their sacreds are non-mindless, so the false damage actually presents a threat against them and can even be a counter if they're running BV. Just like longdead are immune to glamour magic, illusions are immune to most death magic. It's a pretty weird matchup where neither path has great magic against the other, but longdead have the edge because of their holy vulnerability.
The one path interaction I don't like very much is illusions triggering overcharge. I think the fact that illusions instakill themselves on it, immediately freeing up space for more illusions to do the same, makes it too perfect of a counter. It also just doesn't really make sense how an illusory attack is conducting a real electrical shock against the attacker. That would imply the illusion tricked elecricity into shocking it when it can't even trick a mind controlled bug into thinking it's dead.

Primitive TNN would actually be quite effective in LA, because glamour is at its strongest in that age. The units it counters (high prot, low HP/MR nonmagical units) are everywhere and its main counters (high path evocations and combat summons) are few in number. It's also well suited for dealing with blood path, because blood evocations don't work on inanimate illusions whereas false damage is good at killing vampires and ghosts, as are magical golden spears.

Opposing units and commander has map move 16 and no terrain/snow bonuses.
For them to intercept the province I want to attack, they must:
Leave a snowy forest mountain (halfstep 5 (or is it 10? 5 forest + 5 mountain?) +1)
Enter and leave a snowy plains (step 6 + 2)
Enter a plains (halfstep 3)
They should NOT be able to reach this province in time because that would need 17 move total, correct? Or does the half step of them passing the snowy plains put the army inside the final prov?

Evocation
Thaumaturgy
Blood magic
Are schools are fairly dependent on your nation.
I wouldn't rush going higher than 4-5 as a standard. But getting to level 4-5 isn't that expensive and can give a lot.

Conjuration

Are you sure you aren't confusing rusians with chuds? The Rus line has human troops, called the vana/rusians, but calling chuds themselves human implies never actually looking at the units in question. They're basically a race of berserking ubermensch. They even get natprot.

However, this will not eliminate the lance "charge bonus" that the rider gets (if they have a lance) even if the rider isn't moving because it always applies to the first attack. That said iirc the bonus is based on unit combat speed and size so a demounted heavy cav rider will not get much of a bonus.

I look forward to your immediate cope response once more. Keep the thread bumped and keep me entertained.
>>529051552He's not a great chasis so anyone that can deal with a lower tier monster can do it.
Thoughts on the Uttervast for LA R'lyeh?
It seems pretty good.
Maybe give it a pen bonus bless and extra MR. Thoughts?
>>529058625Its actually really bad. The only reason its forced dormant is to prevent moving it onto an enemy capital on turn 2 with a hellbless.
It's actually pretty easy to kill if its solo raiding, which means its only good use is as an important battle caster that can always be where you need it for big battles. But it only comes with astral and 80 points per new path. Rlyeh rarely has problems bringing astral magic to fights.
>>529057629To "call out" on topic discussion with off topic insults degrades the discussion environment. Not liking someone's opinion simply isn't a reason to act like a combative retard. You've done a better job killing your own desired discussion than anyone else ever could.
>>529059114Ok but who asked?
>>529059114>degrades the discussion environment>Jumps in the mudhole with a combatitive retard for 30 minuteslmao
>>529059253>>529059570I accept your concession.
>I might be retarded but you must also be retarded for calling me retarded
Discord's smartest dominions player must be posting ITT right now.
>>529060262Hypocrite. If you cared about the quality of discussion you would not have got into this dumb slap fight over
>ok but who asked?I wasn't even the only person who replied that to the original discussion deteriorating post. Wanna keep going? We may be on the verge of some real good quality discussion here friend
>>529060936i'll fite you if you come around suffolk m8
>>529060936The original discussion deteriorating post was the guy that crashed out over lucid’s tourney, the guy that totally wasn’t you.
>>529060936So your solution to a retard that tries to shout down any disagreement is to let him shout down every disagreement? Must be hard living the life of a cuckold.
>>529062102> shout down any disagreement>Ok who asked?
>>529062772>zoomerspeak for "shut up"Demonstrates the point perfectly, yes.
Man so disaffected that he didn't ask and doesn't care has now spent 1 hour and 45 minutes ranting about how someone who wrote 3 sentences on why he didn't join Lucid's tournament was, in fact, wrong for doing so.
>>529059037Why wouldn't the teleport anywhere nature of it make it hard/expensive to catch and counter? For LA R'lyeh, isn't something approaching a hell bless kind of a given?
Maybe I am just not thinking through it well.
>>529063083Welcome to domg, you can go ai but you can't tell anybody to shutup.
>>529063561He comes with 0 protection, fuck all item slots, and only cheap access to astral, but hes already ethereal. Unless you pay big for extra paths anything with magic weapons will tear his ass up. Even a decent sized pd dump would do it, since astral has bugger all chaff clearing spells.
>>529063680I accept your concession again. We can do this all day bro, feel free to put your self esteem to the test.
>>529063457nobody is malding harder than you man, and if you weren’t the guy who initially complained, then that’s even more pathetic of you to be malding so hard on his behalf.

Man so disaffected as to announce multiple times that he didn't ask and doesn't care has now spent 2 hours ranting about how someone who wrote 3 sentences about why he didn't join Lucid's tournament was, in fact, wrong for doing so.
>>529051552gnosticism is the cope of a loser who needs to hold some greater power responsible for his unhappiness
it's actually lower than fedora-tipping atheist redditors, since they are at least not rejecting their own agency over their happiness
>>529065586Dominions is great, discord dominions not so much. As for why, I think this thread is a pretty good demonstration.
>>529066165once met a guy on fj who claimed to be a gnostic warlock, I dared him to curse me and he cried about how that’s “not how it works”
What bothers me about Rus is they they have buff nation troops but their mages are not very good at casting buffs at all. You're either using expensive mages to cast body ethereal or you're using even more expensive mages to cast mistform and protective winds. Also wooden warriors I guess (also expensive because your N access is bad)
>>529063561He's hard to catch, but you only have to make 1 mistake to lose him, he requires extreme finesse to use offensively.
It's very easy to make the kind of mistakes that would get him killed.
Its much safer to use the Void Lord if you want a combat tendy, and rely on the teleport spell and items for mobility. Maybe even the dagon with some air or astral paths but he might be too pricey.
>>529066195I’m here because I usually find this thread fun, it stops being fun as soon a someone mentions discord and you crash out and derail the whole thread. This is the second time this has happened recently. Haven’t tried dom on disc yet but holy shit they can’t be more annoying than you are.
>>529066503The first mention of discord in this thread was "I don't like the discord dominions social networking metagame". The 2 hour "crash out", as youngsters and pedophiles like to put it, was in response to that post. I wasn't involved with whatever other times this may have happened, so I'll have to point out that you're the only stated common factor in those incidents.
>>529067043it was in response to the mention of lucid’s tournament
bullshit there’s at least 4 people involved
>>529066478Just go all out offense with evos, and maybe chuck a lil fire/shock res on your bless.

>>529067709Lucid's tournament isn't discord, it's a dominions tournament that's hosted on discord. Even the post criticizing it only mentioned discord in passing. However many people are involved isn't my problem, my problem is you accused me of being someone I'm not while admitting you had a stake in both arguments.

do ya'll actually get diplo messaged in discord games?
dozen man game, getting into the midgame, and i think i've been messaged a whopping one time for diplo related shit
it honestly feels the opposite for me, shits dead quiet if you don't go seeking it out
>>529071194Theres usually one sperg a game who talks way too much and most everybody else is silent unless you message first, or will stick to saying only what they need to make a convenient alliance.
>>529071194Discord diplomancy concerns me far less than the concept of "hydras". You can get a huge advantage in PBEM games by investing more time per turn, and putting a team behind a single pretender trivializes that.
>>529072471Play against teams on discord or ai on domg.
Wheres the good games then?
>>529073143ai in singleplayer
blitz with friends
this is how it is with not only dominions, but games in general
>>529073143Whichever flavor suits your preference, obviously. The perfect game doesn't exist.
>>529072471>putting a team behind a single pretender trivializes thatWhat, you mean like someone in the US starts a turn, then their Aussie buddy logs in and finishes it?
>>529074073It only happens in super sweat games, or noob tutoring games generally.
The only time I've seen it in my games is within tourneys. Strictly speaking theres nothing stopping people doing it here too. Some probably have
>>529074073There could also be a guy putting your scouted armies into debug and running tests and combing spell lists to figure out the most efficient way to kill them, testing raiding parties against various PD counts, and so forth. The ceiling on time spent on a turn to work out some kind of advantage is very high in dominions, and one of the nice things about blitz is that it's no longer as much of a factor.
>>529080936>There could also be a guy putting your scouted armies into debug and running tests and combing spell lists to figure out the most efficient way to kill them, testing raiding parties against various PD counts, and so forthISHYGDDT
Imagine being a testing bitch for a game you're not even playing. What the fuck?
>>529081183Using the results of another persons setup with be absolutely just as shameful
It'd be like downloading a railroad track blueprint for Factorio instead of building you own.
