I think it's cool when the game has rules it follows to the point that it can use those rules to do things that have meaning in that context and not outside of it. For example, Undertale having Asgore destroy the Mercy button, the way Sans is defeated, they would not be as impactful in Deltarune where the characters regularly fuck with your options and most minigames just pull you out of the combat format and into their own reality, complete with fully animated character sprites in color.

This is kind of a non answer, but I think they're both perfect for what each game sets out to do. UTs is great for a silent, one-man party whereas it wouldnt work as well for DR's three-man party with interparty conversations and interactions. I cant imagine UT's battle asthetic working well in DR and vice versa not that I need to imagine it, I've unfortunately played Deltatraveler
For which I prefer regardless of this? I think it'd go to Deltarune. A lot of random encounters dont feel as personal and take focus away from the enemy but Toby has shown through it's bosses it can still be used to the same effects as UT's when it counts, like Spamton NEO and the Titan. Plus even out of those it gives the enemies more animation and actually shows how they're attacking. Undertale would ocassionally do this with stuff like Asgore's blink attacks or Undyne switching your SOUL mode, but more often the bullet is contained to the box while the enemy remains in their idle pose.

Rudy is definitely dying in Chapter 5. Chapter 5 is absolutely the Flower King chapter, Asgore is planning to sell flowers during the Festival, flowers which he has already sent to Toriel and Rudy. Rudy is in the pictures of his wedding. Rudy is getting worse already in Chapter 4. Asgore's prophecy in Chapter 4 is called "boss3" internally which fits Tenna's Lord of Screens "boss2" and Queen's Chariot "boss1" prophecies. Rudy is the last tie he has to his old life.
Rudy will die during the Festival to emotionally destroy Asgore, and even further mindbreak Noelle. He has to.

What Deltatraveler does is exactly what I mentioned, it tries using Undertale's battle aesthetic with Deltarune's party system, and just ends up making it feel less personal when anything happens. Granted its been a while and usually I try to repress my memories of it because of how horrid it is in nearly every catagory, but it just ends up making the party feel more disconnected from the fight at hand. When they talk it doesnt feel like theyre actually presently in the fight, more like their spectators. You cant actually witness the party doing any acts as its first person so it has to be described only, which is why I think it works best with a solo silent party rather than a talking group. The most you get outside the dialogue is the faces popping up but outside one instance, the ness and paula fight on genocide, they arent dynamic at all they're just there.
Yes this is a real screenshot, this game has problems way beyond just forcing Undertale's aesthetic in battle but I dont want to talk further about I can feel my blood boiling already
