I tried building DPE/Diabellz scythe lock turbo in MD. It was pretty miserable since your engine is so outdated and you have no way to OTK. The problem with Artifacts isn't the self-popping it's the lackluster resource generation and disruption (barring Scythe who is banned). Ignition is a cool card though, would love new artificats just to play it more.

I feel like a coward having to stack my deck with anti-banish / banish cards to fight both Maliss and White Forest (too many at my locals), like I think my dragons (both blue and red eyes) should be able to win without cheap tricks. Now I'll probably be the one who doesn't let them play and they just hit surrender.
But it legit feels impossible to win without directly cutting their root strategy, if I DO let them remove from play / activate from the graveyard their own cards then here comes a 10 minutes turn and it's over for me so I guess turning my deck into a counter is the intended gameplay (it's either that or selling out a kidney to buy Primite, now that counters everything)

I think he's talking about DUAV screwing with the rarity system in the OCG. It reduced the number of possible rarities per card, cards found in only one high rarity and commons and rares having alternate rarities that take up your pulls.

The biggest part is the complexity and the high prices.
A big part of the complexity is the sheer lack of resources available to actually learn the game. I've been playing the game for over 20 years and I still get tripped up by random bullshit Konami makes up on the spot and acts like you are meant to know it. I think another problem is the complexity of Yugioh is actually really BAD complexity. Nitpicky wording having massively implications on how cards operate, multiple effects that essentially do the same thing but some are just objectively better etc.

Konami made up lore, it doesn't count. "Lore" with any kind of weight would be about the actual ancient, solidly established existing cards (5ds era and before, maybe Zexal if you really want it... Hell I'll extend it to any of the anime, they're pretty much Legacy archetypes by now since we don't get new seasons).
Those are the ones you might have seen for years and grew attached to by watching them (or playing them, I didn't watch anything after GX but I lived through those eras and I love stardust, utopia and galaxy eyes for example).
Also those are the ones people might have been wondering about for over a decade and have dozens if not hundreds of cards to their name, so a lore anime for them would be satisfying.

What Konami is doing right now is making up cards with lore already planned, it's a bit insincere, almost like Oscar bait. It's anime/manga bait, these cards were conceived with the idea they'd be popular and have extra media to their name.
I probably can't articulate it very well but yeah, I much prefer an anime focused on the journey of the Marauding Captain and the other demonic monsters from the DM era, like Eternal Rest, the guy from that spell gave me nightmares as a kid. Or whatever was going on with Gogigga Gagagigo the lizard, or the Pandemonium cards. Give focus to them.
Or Red-Eyes, it was literally never explained in all of the Takahashi Manga, you have Dark Magician and Blue Eyes being the legendary monsters with tons of flashbacks and relevance, and the dragon named as a direct opposite of BEWD gets nothing.

Any attempt to shortcut this process will backfire and is a bad idea. I wish the real game was like that, too. Just because you can infinitely play your deck doesn't mean you should, for the sake of fun. Just do some little plays to attack, and if it's within hand's reach perhaps leave some negate on the board and some set cards waiting to see what I'll do in my turn, etc..

I said it before but I've been playing with a guy new to Yugioh who is learning his skystriker deck. When we play there's real back and forth as he just makes plays to respond in the moment and when he feels he already did enough just ends turn.
Then another guy grabbed his deck, played against me, and it was snore city as he just kept discarding dozens of cards, link climbing and searching through the deck in one turn.... The very same deck piloted by someone trying to have a realistic duel vs someone trying to end the game by himself.

If Yugioh had some harsher time limits it would be for the best. Maybe 4 minutes is fair enough? 5 to round it up. Sometimes I admit I stop and think hard about my next move or wonder about a certain interaction, but 5 minutes should be enough. I don't mind that kind of waiting, thinking is part of this strategy game like chess.
