The main thing I don't like about this chapter is that Gideaux runs away because Will can use an Archetype and blows away his backup guys even though he poses no threat to him directly, like a scene out of a shonen battle manga. In the actual game he retreats because Neuras intelligently starts damaging his runner which he values more than taking Will out.

After all the shitposting I finished e33 and yeah Metaphor is still better. It sure is a nice game but after certain points I just wanted to get over it. The only thing that would have been great in Metaphor is having as much optional bosses to engage before the end.

Gustave dying was in the end nothing and Maelle just is alright with it even though fake Verso let it happen on purpose. I even get on some meta level that we should feel like Maelle as in we grew close to everyone but it isn't real and you should move on from grief but is sadness enough to imply depth? The choices also become very obvious and the third act is just hollow. Metaphor made me care way more about the story and characters and stuck to that. It is a clearer straight forward story but sincere. It also leaves you with a way more positive feeling and outlook and characters aren't reduced to plot devices and sidelined. E33 wanks itself too much on french sadcore. You really can tell the writer was from reddit with his approach. I still enjoyed it but Metaphor was just better for me. and the men and women are way hotter in Metaphor. Only hot girl in e33 is Lune and the men are sad french sacks.

The storylines and character arcs feel underdeveloped or serve little purpose beyond moving the plot. Rella’s entire progression and resolution are a prime example. It feels rushed and incomplete, as if they ran out of time or budget and condensed the last part of the story, which is exactly what most people have been criticizing.
And even though the overall narrative is fairly straightforward, Metaphor’s execution still manages to come off messy, especially with stuff like Louis’s timeline and his connections to the King, which never feel properly sorted out. It’s a shame, because a less straightforward, more nuanced and thought provoking approach could have given the game the kind of depth that keeps people talking, like E33 still does.
On top of that, most of the characters in Metaphor don’t feel very fleshed out. They come across as flat and interchangeable, with motives that feel virtually identical and none of the genuine personality or nuance that make Persona’s characters so resonant.
I will say though, the character designs in Metaphor are great and from what I’ve seen of E33, it has some really cool looking characters too.

Looking through every single developmental detail about Re:Fantasy (they went radio silent after 2019, which is when the project got rebooted more formally into the "Metaphor" we know today), I don't think Atlus ended up being as revolutionary as they thought they'd end up being and in comparison to how massive the scope of Re:Fantasy seemed to be, Metaphor does feel ultimately very lacking.
I really do wonder what was the original vision during Re:Fantasy, that shit kept getting dev posts and news constantly through 2017-2019 until it got rebooted and the vaarus happened.
It's definitely not the medieval fantasy they had in mind and promoted for a very long while (there's still oldkenberg in EO).
I still wish I could see the proper Re:Fantasy actually exist someday, I doubt it though
