One thing I’ve really come to appreciate after trying some Japanese MMOs is how much more midcore friendly they are. In games like WoW or other Western MMOs, it always feels like you’re either stuck doing super low-effort casual content that gets boring fast, or you’re expected to no-life it and push into sweaty mythic raids or high M+ keys that are basically locked behind guild politics or spreadsheets.

There’s not much in between. You either log in to do world quests and timegated dailies with zero challenge, or you’re begging to get into raid rosters where one mistake gets you benched. It’s like the entire mid-range of player skill and commitment just gets ignored. If you’re not “casual” or hardcore you’re kind of out of luck.

Japanese MMOs seem to really understand that huge chunk of the playerbase that wants meaningful, designed content without the need to treat the game like a second job. It’s not perfect, but the structure feels more respectful to players who want depth without drama. I wish Western devs would take more notes on that.

got into WoW a year ago and dived into the old stuff, even the things that were seen as shitty like WoD and BFA were still neat for me, the individual side quest stories and world design immersed me. I even made a WoW folder and filled it to the brim with tons of old warcraft style art, concept art, fan art from the early 00s, and such to really get what I liked most of WoW. but seeing this new patch just tells me all of that is just dead. metzen may have created some edgy 90s fantasy type stuff earlier and balanced between that and some light hearted cartoonish writing when creating WoW, but now he cannot create anything but sanitized slop. wait however many patches and expansions you want, the most can he do in this current era is create the most heavy-handed and least nuanced stories with forced diversity characters talking to the audience through the means of butchered legacy characters and marvel tier levels of mindless events. this entire expansion has been nothing but a mishmash of ideas between patches and dropped ideas, the most coherent parts being pure ass with faerin or xalatath doing nothing. if you want to blame it on it being scrapped halfway through development then fine, look at dragonflight then. for the most part that was a structured story, only that it was bland, inoffensive, and when scrutinized it shows cracks. the enemy becoming a good guy cliche didnt make much sense, the stakes were low and sent even lower when the game couldn't take the already simple and safe plot seriously making feel even lighter, and the questing was ripe with the writers' blunt politics and ideals.
what the fuck is all of this? they removed /flirt lines that were just slightly dirty, /spit was removed, they reworded old quests that delved into """""uncomfortable""""" topics into something safer which tells me they have zero interest in allowing any sort of edge or conflict into WoW, why has politics turned vidya into a mouthpiece for subhumans?

Warrior for sure. Lots of different types of CC as well as decent mobility if you know how to play around your charges, intervenes, and heroic leaps. I’ve played an arms warrior for the whole expansion tho so can’t sell you on fury.
DK has death grip and as such, lacks other types of CC for it.
And Demon Hunters can only play as women or twinks so I don’t fuck with it at all, since I produce testosterone. But they have that one talent that sends them into the air while they throw flares from on high like pussies. I have never seen a DH survive using that so I’m very soured on them. Doesn’t feel like a class made for PvP.
