World surpassed Wilds in player numbers, even surpassed Wilds and Rise combined, and we've finally hit Overwhelmingly Negative. First of all, a standing ovation is in order.

But now we have an elephant in the room to discuss. How to continue? At the current rate, we will eventually hit single digit positive reviews, but as there isn't any special rating category for this, it's not going to increase our stock value by much. Overall review ratings are projected to hit as low as 30%, but hitting these lows will be overshadowed by the original hype of Overwhelmingly Negative recent reviews. It's not a solid avenue to invest in.

We could invest some of our dividends into Rise's player count, hyping up Rise overtaking Wilds in an unprecedented display of shame. This, however, seems like a risky strategy. Rise isn't very popular. We might scare off some of our key stakeholders.

We need ideas. This bull run has been magnificent for World's brand value. If we are to keep this momentum going, we're going to have to think of some creative new approaches to see high ROI longterm.

i can't beat velkhana, it hits for so much so fast.

this is very frustrating, i get knocked back by every little shake it makes to the point i need to carefully wait for an opening. and that means perfectly dodge/block or get chunked for 60-100 hp. i just do not want to run around for a full minute just to get an opening for one hit.

Velkhana has predictable combo behavior. Learn to identify them. For example if he does the tail stab into very long back jump, or he runs past you way out of range, he's gonna follow up with a sweeping beam and a taunt
Or if he only runs past you a little bit, he's gonna follow up with the bite attack
When he creates the advancing ice wall breath attack thing infront of him, he's gonna taunt. Same with the expanding circular aerial ground ice spike attack. Free hits there if you position accordingly

I haven't hunted velk in ages so I can't recall many examples

Don't bother trying to find TCS windows, they don't exist unless he's wriggling on the ground. Consider getting 2 piece Odogaron or Barioth for punishing draw which applies KO value to unsheathe attacks, then you can get some free TCS windows. It's a very hard GS matchup unless you know the ins an outs of the monster AND the weapon. Just don't try to do the usual tacklespam stuff cause you'll just die

Only things I don't like is the peformance, some of the weapon design choices, and the lack of content. I like everything else, difficulty was better than base World and Rise, I actually carted to stuff in the low rank story though I do play pretty greedy usually. I like the idea of just making low rank into an actual campaign like 4U did it, I don't see the point of treating low rank as an open experience when it's just high rank but worse. It was always meant to be a tutorial portion of the game, so just turning it into a liniar campaign is not at all an issue for me. The game should have just had way more high rank content at release.

NTFramework, the engine World was on and the third and fourth gen classic games, has an issue where at certain angles and distances, the game starts treating the top layer of objects, the ones that actually have the textures as slightly transparent and it reveals the dotted coordonates patterns the objects actually have to layer the textures on them. I pretty much disregard all the people whining about the classic games design when Wilds is more like the classics than World and Rise in several ways. People just focus on the surface level shit like it's 2015 and we're complaining about RPGs having fast travel again.

Everything else is sorta valid, I hate how the weapon movesets work in Wilds and I don't like how the monsters focus on tracking and oneshot damage more than ever, but I'll grow into it probably.

That's what old combat was though. It was all about finding ways to get in the right spot to keep hitting the legs or head to keep a monster on the ground as long as possible. Wilds monsters are even more classic like than World and Rise since they tend to just do moves depending on player position rather than keep using combos like the last two games.

I'm not saying its good, I prefer Rise/Sunbreak's combat loop the best with the monsters, but Wilds definetly feels more like the older games in how you interact with the monsters.

Ark doesn't use combos, it just had moves that have more than one attack, and no that's not the same thing. Combos in monsters were a big focus in World and Rise where monsters would do moves depending on which of their attacks hit and what openings they have on you, and they would chain different attacks entirely together without a set pattern. Wilds isn't like that, each monster has a pattern of attacks they can start and they only take into account your position for them.
I like the former more than the ladder, especially in Sunbreak, but my point is that Wilds in that sense is much more like the classics combat wise. The monster does something, you try not to die, you hit the weak stuff so it falls over.

Rousing roar is a 30% affinity buff that lasts forever. With go, fight, win (free dash juice), power drum (free 10 raw) and felyne powered up (contrary to the description it resets internal cooldown for other moves rather than boost anything) you have a perfect buff slut that you can take into multiplayer. half the time it was brawling with a deviljo. i had to stay aware of all of its explosives while ducking and diving. its main attacks are predictable enough. the trick to carry 10+ hi potions saved my ass. It was VERY satisfying to kill.

They should build upon it like how Rise built upon the new ideas introduced in GU, not go back to it. Monhun works best when it has a solid foundation to build on, and after they've shown that they're able to learn from their mistakes with Sunbreak I'd say Rise would make a pretty good game to use for that; especially considering how easy it'd be to reuse monster/gear/map assets compared to a game like Wilds. They could tone it down and mainly use wirebugs for traversal instead of combat and it'd still work. I'd take a Rise 2, but more than anything I just want to see that solid foundation they used to have return so that future games are fun from the start without needing two years of updates to iron out their issues.

I don't really get why they didn't add the "pin mantle users" mechanic to most IB monsters and also added a move for it to the MR version of base game monsters.
Capcom knew the mantles were being abused but still only did something about it with a small handful of endgame events. I think it's just 4(5) monsters? AT Velk, Fatalis, Alatreon and the Rajangs?

I think the only thing relatively close to depth is spacing with the combo loops because it allows for charged chop punish, I guess....

there's tons of trash from the golden age, the issue is that you could find quality due TO quantity; even if 1 in 10 games were good, there were so many games by volume you still had a bunch of good stuff to play. there's so much scope and scale creep nowadays that it takes so long to put out trash.

there are still good new games, but it's a major event when one comes out and is quite good, whereas you had a constant stream massive heavy hitters every year from like 96-08
