I've never, ever played a Shaman, thought I might try one in HC for both the challenge, and because I've also never played Horde in Classic (though I mained it in retail).
I don't really have the time to raid any more, so I don't care about meta endgame performance or any of that shit (and HC kind of stops after the 60 journey anyway).

Gold is a means to an end, without GDKPs the only other option is swiping which is happening way more than when GDKPs weren't banned. TBC is the one expansion where gold actually matters the most. Every single BiS melee weapon is crafted and costs a fuckload of gold. With the amount of gold farmers and bots, overworld resource farming becomes impossible. GDKPs are a great way for people who don't want to handfarm gold but who are also capable of actually playing the game.

Totems are raid wide, JC necks are raid wide, heroism/bloodlust is raid wide and gives sated, LW drums are raidwide, SP mana is still the same, and BM hunter buff is capped at 1%.

Guys kind enough, but his entire vibe is that he thinks this is a waste of time. So much so he’s refusing to do certain raids. there's map markers for quests built in now, and most quest chains are on rails so I don't find questie that important. but some people swear by it. it does have some benefits.

if you're planning to do endgame content, the most important imo are weakauras, DBM, details, atlasloot, plater and clique. if you're playing heals you might also wanna look at a raid frames addon, and if you don't like the default UI you could try elvui (I like the default, I'm weird, but again some people swear by elvui).
anything else is just mostly gonna be QoL stuff depending on how you like to play. if there's any element of the UI you don't like or whatever, there's probably an addon to change it.

My kids are finally old enough where i don't have to constantly monitor them and i have achieved a position in my company where i essentially can do fuck all thanks to A.I and my co-workers/boss being retarded boomers. There are so many abilities and spells, how do you use them all. Do you have keybindings for all of them or do you click on half of them in your bar?

Key bindings are the way to go. It seems overwhelming at first but you'll get the hang of it quickly. Keep them to keys you can easily reach with one hand: start with 1-6. Then start adding modifiers, so shift+1-shift+6, or ctrl+1-6 etc.
Other ones that feel good to me are shift+R, shift+D, shift-T, alt+E, the tilde key. Mouse buttons too if you have them.
Just play around and find what feels good for you. You'll commit them to muscle memory eventually. If you play multiple characters try to keep similar abilities on the same keybind for muscle memory, like interrupts should always be on the same key.
