Sekiro is one of those games where I can tell it's good and have moments of real elation like with Genichiro(iirc), but the process of getting my ass horribly beat until it clicks isn't fun
There aren't any real mitigating factors for skillissue in Sekiro either, like in almost every souls game I wind up using a shield eventually whether it was DaS1 on the 360 or ER now, still can't parry Gwyn

Now that I know that Executor's Arcane stat actually affects both the cloud and weapon buff of Chilling Mist, I think that it's pretty much the best possible weapon skill for him to have against anything that isn't outright immune to frost.
It also helps that John Nightreign is the only Nightlord immune to it.
Frost is basically a second bleed that debuffs defenses and works against some things that are immune to bleed like tree spirits.

You keep 4 or 5 of the item you want a better version of in your inventory when you're rushing down bosses and more likely to get a better version of an item in that class. Then on day 2 you start dropping all the duds for passives. You'll pretty consistently get a purple that falls into the narrow range of what you want. That or they just mentally block out the times that didn't go their way.

I was thinking of a challenge run that could keep things at least somewhat challenging (max level of 10, maybe 8, starting weapons only and no buffs from defeated bosses) but I'm not sure how I could make it fun for all characters (duchess, revenant and recluse are a concern), and enjoyable throughout the whole run so that people don't get bored and AFK halfway through after getting to the target level.

Grab some heals or mage towers if they happen to be where you are going anyway, or choose a different starting route with them in mind. Clear the elemental camps as you see fit.
Day 2: field bosses and castle
Shifting earth events alter the decision making obviously. During Crater for example it makes sense to clear castle day 1 or at least galf clear it.

The cultures that rise then fall have fake autonomy. They do exist and they do effect history and history is about them and their exploits, but that history book was written by Metyr and her fingers. Her hands are one the puppet strings guiding all the kings and consorts and heros to their glory and their doom. They don't know that though. The player learns that meta info and it works as lore for us as a dramatic irony.

I have NEVER EVER used more than 2 shards (that I can buy myself) in any hard Adel run, and he has more HP than any other boss. Nowadays I'm not even using more than 1, I only get to 2 when I drop some good Dragon Communion incant that eats your FP in 1 cast.
