I thought the Black Space 2 entrance triggers were activated by being on the Hikikomori route, but it turns out they turn on after beating Humphrey! Or at least this one in the Otherworld TV did. That's a fun little tidbit.

This segment's still so good. I like to think this whole segment was some kind of daydream Sunny had in school and buried deep in his subconsciousness out of embarrassment. Or maybe it's like an anon from years ago said and this scene could represent Sunny having issues committing himself to something, even if it's choosing between two of the same person. Or whatever that anon said.
If you had to choose left or right Aubrey, which one would you choose? I'd pick Left Aubrey because she seems a little less aggressive.

Okay, so the Black Space 2 entrance in the Sweetheart's Rose Garden doesn't seem to be active. I guess it's just a select few entrances that are usable after beating Humphrey. Presumably the ones which lead to one-off rooms that don't connect to any of the branching areas. That's still interesting.

I'm think Mari's funeral was an open casket one. It's such a strong image in Sunny's mind that only appears in Black Space and Final Duet. I feel like it did happen. That this was the last time any of them got to see Mari.
Also I knew this was a thing prior, but I needed a quick search to find a name for it. It's apparently called mortuary cosmetology. Rope burn and any bruises Mari had wouldn't be hard to clean up for a funeral.

Sunny x Sweetheart (she became real and now it's living in his house)

Hey wait a minute. Wasn't a smaller version of this pool in early iterations of Neighbors Room? The one that still had a noose hanging from the tree in there. I remember seeing it in early Headspace screencaps. Yet another bit of old, unused ideas that made its way into Black Space.

I didn't realize until now, but the one house you can enter has Dream Aubrey's version of Lost At A Sleepover playing in the background. Just slowed down like the other outside songs. That's neat.

Even after everything, she'd still love him. And he knows that. That's what tears Sunny up inside. The person he killed was someone that only ever loved him. She loved him and he killed her.

Unless I'm forgetting a room which I might very well be, I remember this was my favorite Black Space room. It's so simple, but effective. Not even background ambience. Just complete silence, leaving the message as all you have.
It also starred in one of my favorite scenes from that Dreaming Boy Sleeping Girl fic, but that's not as important.

You ever notice the background in this area? It's only there before the fade to black which sends you to the looping black room with watermelons. It's pretty foreboding.
I mostly remember this segment for a vtuber who lost her goddamn mind when Basil fell apart like the watermelons. Laughed so hard at that.

One of the few instances of Sunny's Mom appearing in Headspace, in the form of a statue. The symbolism here's pretty simple, but I like it. As long as Sunny's in front of her she pays attention to him and looks fine, but as soon as he's out of her sight and she thinks he's gone she lets herself fall apart. Holding herself together for her only remaining child's sake. She's still trying.

This Aubrey does not seem to be doing well.
I forgot that doing the Aubrey's Love Letter event in Black Space changes this, but in this room you can find all the friends in this room. Kel's south, Hero's east, and Aubrey's west. If you find certain rooms in Black Space, it changes them from their normal sprites to distorted forms. Aubrey becomes this only after finding the Love Letter room. There's some odd causes and effects in Black Space.

His parents abandoned him, his grandma's dying, he has to live with what he saw and did, which he did under the belief it would save his best friend only for him to be left alone, his friends left him, he's been bullied for X amount of years, and has to live every day consciously lying to his friends who mean everything to him.

The difference between how Stranger acts on the true ending and here is so great. He's absolutely fed up with Sunny running away for the last time and snaps. Stranger's dialogue is interesting to me here. Considering the whole "Ny thoughts will follow you into dreams" thing, I wonder if this is a sentiment from Basil. Like maybe Stranger's projecting right now and telling Sunny how he feels. Or maybe Sunny's thoughts are spilling through Stranger, because it's odd to think of Basil being so openly hostile towards him. It's also interesting that he manages to separate Sunny from Omori for this fight.

I really hated how reoccurring of a sentiment that was back in the day. It never seemed to me like she was a bad parent, just stretched thin taking care of her only child that she may or may not know murdered her daughter, and may or may not think could have hanged her by himself if she didn't know Basil was there. She encourages Sunny to see Kel, leaves him 20$, there's a medkit by the stairs. I don't think she'd be leaving him alone for so long if she didn't think he couldn't take care of himself. And if you don't subscribe to the idea that Mewo's dead one way or another, she might be with mom at the new place. And there's that Black Space 2 text from Sunny's Mom where she promises that they'll protect him, which could imply she knows and still cares about him. Maybe even helped cover it up on her end.

Thinking about it now, I really like this part where you ascend the stairs with Dream Basil. The backgrounds changing like you're ascending through the different layers of Headspace outside it's bounds. Like the magic and cohesion of Headspace's world is pulled back and you get to see how everything's artificially layered on top of each other. The rooms of Black Space, the main room that's just darkness, the bubbles showing how you reached Deeper Well, and finally back to the familiar skies of Headspace. So cool, and kind of spooky. I personally always found the out of bounds areas of games frightening. Where the land dies and there's just nothing beyond but proof of the world's artificiality.

Duet's leitmotif is pretty hurtful in this song. Neighbor's Room is based off the treehouse, so I wonder what Neighbor's Bedroom is. Maybe it's a further idealized treehouse? Whatever it is, it's sad.
Basil's friends all left him and he's alone, among other things. Hoping things can go back to the way they used to be, but knowing they never will. The very next day in the real world he's going to kill himself.
Hero shut down, and when he recovered he ran away. He's far away from Faraway and seems to be keeping away from the memories that hurt him. Including his friends.
Kel's ignoring his friends. Everything got so confusing, and he decided it would be better if he stayed out of it. Maybe he's even afraid of what happened with Hero repeating with them.
Aubrey pushed her friends away, and they left her. Her home life's a wreck and she's taken up a nail bat where she used to hold a stuffed plushie, her personality changing to match.
Mari's gone.
Sunny can dream that's not the case. Everyone's still here for him. He's not alone. Mari's here for him. Everything's going to be okay.

Oh shit, what? I missed out on the first day of chores since I went outside for the Photo Album. Does the achievement count only for doing the last set of chores? I was so sure I was going to miss that one. Fuck yeah! Now I won't have to do an entire Hikikomori playthrough again later down the line just for that one silly achievement!

Also I forgot this part where Playing Forever quietly starts to play after the chores since Sunny's about to go back to sleep. His friends are waiting for him.

It must have been something that would have made Sunny so happy to hear.

I still remember thinking a lot about him and the game without knowing much about it, and wondering if by the end he'd be in color, maybe as a shorthand visual for him overcoming whatever tragic flaw or backstory haunted him so, and finally belonging with the rest of Headspace's cast

Part of the tragedy of Omori himself in my eyes is that he's not really Sunny. Daddy Longlegs says that in order to survive the faculties of his own mind, Sunny had to forget himself and take on a new identity. Omori. Sunny doesn't truly get to enjoy the wonders of Headspace without a degree of separation. Aubrey, his childhood crush hugging him and saying she wants to go on an adventure with just him. Kel telling him they're honorary brothers now. Hero patting his head and being so cool. Mari hugging him, simply being with her like they used to. Sunny can't truly enjoy any of this because he has to live it through Omori. Omori, a monochrome boy who feels nothing. No happiness or sadness. No joy or anger. No wonder or fear. No hope or despair. If he cannot feel, than the pain cannot reach him. Omori's the only reason he's been able to go on without killing himself yet.
Or at least that's how I see it. If I worded that well enough.

Another explanation for Omori I like is the piano branded Omori. Omori's design is pretty clearly reminiscent of the piano, no need to explain that. Mari would spent a lot of time practicing with that piano. She loved playing it in front of their friends. She loved playing that piano. Sunny wanted to be someone Mari loved again, because there's no way she'd love him after what he did.

In the Memory Lane version of Sunny's house, you can find a chair outside the piano room. When examined, it says that Sunny would sit in that chair and listen to Mari play. It's presented in an innocent way, but I like to look at it more tragically by reading far too into it.
Sunny was getting to spend less and less time with Mari over time. She would practice piano, and recently she had started taking extra classes which kept her from home for even longer. Not to mention studying for college. Sunny cherished each and every moment he got with her. I forget where, but I remember it being implied that part of why Sunny wanted to play violin again is so he could spend more time with Mari through music practice. So maybe before that happened, he'd spend time sitting in that chair. Patiently waiting for Mari to be finished with practice so he can spend time with her. Hoping maybe she'll be done after this song. Or the next. She's only a room over, yet sitting in the stairway all alone in that chair makes her feel so far away. He misses her.

I sometimes brainrot about Omori's main cast in a medieval isekai scenario (mostly because of a few fics with the premise, including one where Mari went to the medieval fantasy dimension first after her death), and imagine Sunny ending up alone, being able to find success as an adventurer and use wizard magic bullshit but being miserable anyways because 1. he's still hung up on how his old life ended and 2. he already lived through a (much nicer and cuter) fantasy world in his dreams and can't tell what this place is. Purgatory? A coma dream? An actual second chance that he earned, or one that he just lucked into?

Eventually, as a sort of "bad ending", he goes through with a ritual that turns him into a mummy (like picrel, but with more bandages and clothes for modesty), at which point he's come back to a state like he was as Omori- emotionally dead inside and unable to change, all so he can act as his "best self" free of his old flaws, both for his sake and to make himself more useful to others (undead things get extra HP and a bunch of immunities, what a deal! Definitely makes up for eternal clinical depression).

He continues following a routine of traveling, helping people, and resting in some old coffin every now and again before he wakes up and starts the cycle anew. Not feeling fulfilled or important, just going through the motions of what he figures a good, helpful person would do without feeling anything about it (like Hero and Mari). By the time his friends gather as adventurers themselves and find him, he's unable to believe they're real and not either illusions, hallucinations, or part of a dream, and because he made himself so useful before and after mummification, the people around him and local authorities actively prevent his friends from snapping him out of it or undoing the ritual, leaving him stuck forever as a benevolent but lonely and hollow idol.

Neato. My imagination scenarios aren't really as creative. I usually just imagine scenes from fics, either if things played out differently or what could happen next. Or sometimes insert the version of Haru in my head into a scene and imagine what happens.
Or sometimes I'm just playing a game and imagining the cast in that game. Like when I replayed Cave Story a year or so ago and imagined what if Omori and Mari swapped out Quote and Curly Brace. Spooky. There's dev text in the language files, and completely unused dialogue by a non-existent Lost Soul character that says that Headspace residents that stay in Black Space for too long become Something else. I guess this is an example of how it happens. Which is also implied to be what happened to Abbi's form. I wonder if Ye Olde Sprout's dialogue implies the enemies that we defeat and fade away are actually being sent to Black Space. Every enemy we kill is doomed to this fate. Quite dark, if so.
The 2019 Build implies a different origin for the minor Something's. That they're conglomerations of the little blob things which are Dream Basil's that died in Black Space. It also matches up with what they say during battle. This definitely seems to not be official anymore, but still an interesting bit of history.

That does make it stand out. Most Black Space entrances are in awkward places that don't really connect. Like the rooms you can get to with the Universal Remote. Or even the rooms you use doors to access. It gives the impression that most of Black Space is separate rooms in a dark void you teleport between. If I remember correctly, Abbi's room also naturally connects to a Black Space location.
It's also kind of spooky. Black Space is supposed to be buried deep beneath the different worlds of Headspace. Even the main entrance requires you to fall far, far down a deep pit. But here one of its entrances is naturally melding with the world. Not like the TV entrances which seem like glitches in reality, but here an entrance is naturally forming into Headspace as a part of it. That can't be a good sign.

It is. It's one of the Black Space rooms you can access with the Universal Remote. Equip it to Omori and examine the TV inside the Otherworld Sprout Mole Colony. It shows King Crawler because all the characters (except Ye Olde Sprout) rapidly change between different Headspace character sprites. I saw a few I recognized like Goyle, Nose, King Crawler, various enemies like Sesame and Sourdough, and a few I didn't recognize. I have to wonder if any unused characters had their sprites leftover in here.

Doesn't it just tug at your heartstrings? This poor, poor Aubrey. Stuck all the way down here. All her memories of going on adventure with Omori, snuggling up to him, loving him, availed her nothing. And now another Aubrey's just taken her place that loves Omori just as much as she did, and Omori's forgotten all about her. Rather, this version of her. And now all that's left for her is to sink further into Black Space and become nothing.
There's a noticeable issue with Omori's friends. Whenever they encounter something that shouldn't really be part of Headspace's narrative, they clam up. Daddy Longlegs explains the origin of their world as says their god is walking this land as one of it's inhabitants unaware of his own fabrication, and they have nothing to say to that. Kel doesn't joke about maybe being this Dreamer because he's so cool, Aubrey doesn't do her usual flirt routine by saying maybe it's Omori, nothing. Mr. Outback talks about the world as well, and even brings up Basil, but not a peep out of either of them. And what Branch Coral says. Also Abbi later on.
It makes them feel intentionally flat. Like they can only follow a script prepared for them. They're fake. Not real. But these versions of the friends that were replaced and sink into nothing acknowledge their situation to a degree. This Aubrey still cries for help. So if they friends are more aware than they seem...how would the Aubrey behind Omori feel about this? Seeing what could very well be her future. And she can't verbally acknowledge it. Or maybe that's the Aubrey we'd been traveling with for the last three days, and the one behind us is a new Aubrey created for this iteration of Headspace. Horrific.

Last Resort's one hell of a move.
Abbi's pretty tragic from what we know and don't know. She was the wisest and knew everything. She presumably tried to help Sunny face the truth, but he just wasn't ready for that and it hurt him. So in retaliation she was banished down here and had her wisdom stripped from her so she'd never be smart enough to find a way out.
It's definitely not going to happen at this point 5.5 years after Omori's release, but wonder if Omocat or someone would ever confirm what Abbi used to look like prior to her long term imprisonment near Black Space, or if she always looked like that. Everyone just widely accepts the idea that she used to look like Tako-Chan from the Omoriboy comics and reuse that design for her, but maybe she had a different appearance. I'm personally fine with reusing that design since it means the Tako-Chan design gets more fanart, and also because it's pretty funny thinking that one of 12 year old Sunny's oldest dream friends was a loosely dressed octopus girl. And there's mild precedence for it in the Slime Girls who are also out of place in the otherwise very innocent Headspace born from Sunny's mind where kisses are censored.

Speaking of the hanging body...back when I was doing the Stranger fight yesterday, I really wanted to get into those really interest remnants that indicated The Stranger fight on Hikikomori took the place of a Something fight. There's two or three scrapped battles, and some dev text in one of the black space language files, that indicated you would have fought a forced loss battle against the hanged body. Complete with the Calm Down, Endure, and Persist actions failing you, Then Omori would take over, you'd unlock Red Hands here and use it to forcefully stop Something, ending sequence here. But I don't have the catbox links saved on this laptop for those fights.

Part of the tragedy is the odd spots of still existing innocence in Headspace. Like kisses being censored. Even with how what happened screwed up traumatized Sunny and screwed up his head, he was still a 12 year old. I wish more fics did that regarding Sunny. It feels like a reasonable and sad development for him. On top of Sunny already having been a spacey kid, having lived in Headspace for so long means he's probably not going to be all there even after recovering.
And looking at the Release Energy image again, it probably is Mr. Plantegg being afraid of the knife. His eyes are looking right at it.

Fun bit of trivia about Something in the Dark; the time limit isn't actually exclusive to this fight.
If you don't use Calm Down in the fear version of the fight, you'll eventually die. Something in the Dark will display it's normal shove attack text, and then do 143 damage. 143 doesn't need explanation.
But the interesting part of the trivia is that in the 2019 version of the game, this final attack was a little different. It would instead display "(name) hit the ground!" and then do 999 damage. I like the 2019's version a little more for the image it puts in your head. And makes it clear what happens to Sunny if you lose either Acrophobia or Arachnophobia fights. Sunny's positioned right where Mari died, and so would he if he fell. But on the other hand, the 143 damage number happening from an attack replicating how Sunny killed Mari has a special feel to it.

Whats your favorite part of the game?

Lost Library is a place where Sunny's memories were stored. At some point, presumably when it became an entrance to Black Space, it sunk deep beneath the world. The memories remain, but they're starting to erode a little. The names are blanked out. It feels like part of Sunny's coping over Mari's death is resulting in him repressing everything. The good memories hurt because he can't stand thinking about what he ruined, which might be why he scribbled out the Photo Album. And the painful memories obviously hurt. Even a precious memory like this one ended up a forgotten book in a forgotten library deep beneath his subconscious.
And then after beating the three manifestations of his biggest fears; not by overcoming them, but instead engaging with them like they were any other enemy of his dreams, the books are all scribbled out. Every single book. Maybe it extends beyond just books here and Sunny really doesn't remember these memories anymore. The achievement you get from beating the three fears being called Repressed isn't exactly a good indicator either. Sunny's very clearly at his absolute limits and would probably kill himself sooner rather than later at his point, but maybe there's a point where he'd truly forget his entire childhood. Headspace would become what he remembers. Could the pain still reach him if he loses all context to why it hurts? Maybe he'd be able to move on this way despite the cost. The implications are horrifying to dwell on.

I found it at last. The footage that one anon recorded. Now I can make the post I wanted.
So in the language files you can sometimes find dev text. It's a fun glimpse to the devs describing scenes, sometimes unused scenes, or whole cut scenarios.
Here it seems like instead of fighting Stranger, you'd have had an alt version of the existing Something fight but in a failure state. Calm Down, Focus, and Presist would fail just like the Stranger and Basil fights. Eventually it would turn into the Blurry phase of the fight, but Sunny wouldn't be able to face the memory any further and the fight would end in failure. As seen in the footage below.

Then, sort of like the Omori fight, you could choose to retry or give up. And if you retried, you'd start the fight as Omori, according to the dev text you'd unlock Omori's Red Hands skill, and it would play out something like this but presumably more polished if it was final. Also without Dream Aubrey, obviously.

Then things seem like they'd have played out the way they normally do in the final. It's interesting because the time frame for this change seems tight. The 2019 Build had a completely different Black Space ending scenario where you'd find Dream Basil and just guide him out of Black Space by retracing your steps, no Stranger or Something fight. Back before Black Space and Black Space 2 were split. And considering they had both the Something fail fight and Omori defeating Something fight somewhat coded, makes it seem like the Stranger fight was a pretty late change.
I think. The development of Omori is so interesting.

Even the dev text alone just has a lot of interesting tidbits on what was. Like how in the Glade room there would have been Something enemies along the way. Getting into combat with them wouldn't have changed the bgm, and they'd only do their waste a turn move where the textbox says "Liar." until you beat them. Like apparently there was some scenario where Spaceboy would mention sometimes stumbling on a Black Hole when he flies too far into the universe. The dev text referencing this abscent dialogue is in the dreamworlds_extra_blackspace file, which makes it clear that this was another name for Black Space given by Headspace inhabitants, like Shadowy Chasm and Deep Pit.

Wait, I forgot the trivia part.
So you find the Herosaurus behind multiple doors, but the first one in the Cloudy Walkway area specifically says you unlock it. Elsewhere in Black Space is a Dream Hero in a kitchen that asks you to find him ingredients so he can cook something. You find what he needs, and he cooks something and gives you an item called "Key Ingredient". This item doesn't do anything anymore.
Buuut back in the 2019 build, the doorway to the Herosaurus room is actually locked. And it's unlocked by the Key Ingredient. This function being removed, but the unlocked door text still appears in the final. So that means this particular room, this Herosaurus, is locked behind a fetch quest given to you by Hero, a key to a locked door, and more doors. Something about this Herosaurus had to be extra hidden by Sunny's mind.

I've always loved Last Resort, even before gambling stockholm syndrome kicked in. It's a nice location being a casino kind-oh-hotel under the sea. Mr. Jawsum's a cool dude, the Gator Guys are all really fun and sweet, it has such a nice atmosphere to it. The playground friends are fun in the jobs they get, Aubrey's a cute secretary, and Hero gets to run the place. Also the music's all nice. It's the kind of location that would be perfect as the main setting for a fun if inconsequential story. I think this is my favorite local in Headspace, but I also kind of like Pinwheel Forest for its simplicity.

I was looking up what the alternate Black Space entrances were for fun since I only know a few of them off hand, and apparently there's a black car that can appear on Endless Highway, but only if you enter from Deep Well or Last Resort.
It took me a while to get this. I even noticed that if you enter from Last Resort you can actually see it for a second when the area's loading and then it disappears because the RNG said it's not supposed to be there this time.

It even drives off when you get into it. Considering they're being taken to Black Space instead of Last Resort or Deep Well, this might count as a kidnapping.

This is another character from the old trailers who had relevance. This one's name is Tako-Chan. She is one of three. Now all she does is appear as a cameo and vanish when spoken to.
You might notice her design's a little different from the one most people draw. It seems that when making the jump from Omoriboy to Omori, Tako went through a design change to presumably reflect the change in the protagonists age. Originally she just wore panties and a very small shirt. Here she has a striped shirt and shorts/pants. It's also worth noting that one of the old concept art sheets showing the gender swap option for a few characters also included two designs for Tako. The sprite that appears here is the female one. You can tell because she has bunches.

Holy shit. I realized something. In the Deeper Well area you find strange creatures that talk about vague stuff relating to Sunny's situation and Headspace. But after starting Hikikomori, they all disappear except for the one that says "The sun shined brighter when she was here..."
I was wandering this area and noticed these strange creatures that appear here. They all look different, and examining them gave this message. They weren't here the first time around. It took me until seeing this one to put the dots together. The creatures in Deeper Well were moved her and are now dead. I wonder if it's some kind of punishment. Jeez...

Keeper of the Castle says this place takes the shape of one's deepest desires. For Sweetheart that was a castle full of riches, servants for her to command, a stage to flaunt her power. For Sunny, it's this. A warm chair. Memories dotting the wall. Familiar sounds and smells in the air. Home. It's basically a direct upgrade to White Space.

Poor little guys. I don't know if there's any remnants of this in the final version, but the 2019 build strongly implies these guys are what's left of Dream Basil's that die down here.
If you step on them, they make a hurt sound. If you step on them enough times, they fade away. Once they completely fade away, a sound file plays that sounds distinctly like a voice saying "I'm sorry..."

Hikikomori Route. Like I said, it only happens after beating the Lost Library version of the three fear fights. You also have to examine the piano in that same room which causes it to vanish, and in turn its real world counterpart.

The Mari is Home event is particularly interesting. It can only appear if Sunny went outside on the first day. Meaning you either get here via the secret route in the Glade room, or you started Hikikomori on the second day by ignoring Kel.
The location is this version of Sunny's house. The most interesting change to me is the parents bedroom being down a long hallway. I feel like that's a metaphor for Sunny not being particularly close with his mom and dad. It marks one of the few, if only times, you'll see the grown up friends in Headspace, who say some interesting things.

>Hero: "MARI hasn't been home in a long time... She just needs some room to adjust."
>Aubrey: "Hey, OMORI... I think your sister is ignoring us. Maybe you should go talk to her."
I kind of put this scenario in a similar, if darker spot that the Recycultist Dungeon is in. A sign of Headspace changing. Trying to incorporate the changes in what Sunny saw when he goes outside. Everyone's grown up and changed.
At the start of the game, you hear Mari knocking on the door. Saying she's finally back home, but she forgot her keys. Mari's dead. But Sunny's trying to repress that. To me, this feels like trying to excuse her not being home anymore. She's out somewhere, maybe at college. This Mari Is Home segment almost feels like a continuation of that train of thought. Mari Is Home now. But she's not seeing anyone at the moment. Omori should check up on her. If Sunny's mind wasn't precariously falling apart at the seams at this point, I wonder if Headspace could have completely changed and been more like the real world but with Mari alive again. This and the Recycultist dungeons being the signs of that change happening.
Also the ambience that plays here is...kind of nice, actually. I've been listening to it while putting together this image and writing this. I've liked listening to it. Even if I don't think I recorded the whole thing.

Also when you see Mari on the other side of the door, not her dream self or a monochrome spirit, but the real Mari. And then the text box pops up, but no nameplate and she's not saying anything. But you can hear chopped up bits of the text sound being played meaning something's supposed to be there, but it isn't.
This whole scenario feels like something went really, really wrong. This isn't supposed to have existed. But it does, and it's wrong.

And then there's the weird Red Space area with the tree stumps, greyscale flower crowns, a TV just stuck onto one of the stumps for some reason, and a stupidly secretive ladder that leads to here. Omori visits the zoo, how exciting. Watch the noble Dorothi's prance and the Cindi's waddle. For some reason if you hug the uppermost part of this section the Thalassophobia overlay appears. I remember hearing ages ago that filter appearing is a leftover of something, but I don't remember what.

Looks it's time for Sunny and his sister to move away. This place used to hold a lot of memories.
The movers in here are affected by the WTF value. If it's at I think max, they become opaque shadows like some of the strangers. But regardless of that, they say some weird things.

Sunny's kind of losing it. It's only going to get worse.

And...that's it. It's really...I'm going to use the word sobering, sitting there and seeing the minimalist credits while ambulance sirens ring for 3 minutes or so. Basil killed himself the previous night, and someone found it. Sunny's going to start a new life. His friends will never know what happened to him and never saw him again. Or in my version of events, just the former. Aubrey's and her friends are going to be blamed for Basil's suicide because that's the only reason they'll ever know. They'll probably never care to find Sunny, so he's gone forever. That's the end.
Once I reload a save and start up the main route again, I don't think I'll be blogposting as much as I have for this. Maybe. I know I'll still be posting screenshots, like stitching together Kel's reactions to you saying No to his encouragement of Mincy, but I don't think I'll have as much word soup to make. It's been fun. And painful. Really painful.

Oh wait, one more thing! My final playtime! What a beautiful number that is. Could have easily hit 90+ if I hadn't been a coward and dipped out of delving deep into Black Space 2.
Subtracting the estimated amount of time spent gambling at Last Resort for 1,000,000 clams, the playtime number would be lowered to roughly 66:30:12 I'm not sure which number is better looking.

If you wait for an amount of time, Sunny and Aubrey will briefly appear on their respective swing for less than a second. I obviously don't have reaction perfect screenshotting speed, so I had to take this screencap non-standardly so it's a little less quality.
It's kind of cute? But it's also depressing seeing them down here. The swings meant a lot to Sunny and Aubrey. I like to think this shows that some part of Sunny, even buried as deep as this, didn't really give up on Aubrey. She still means something to him. But considering the path he's on at this point, it's just a fleeting thought that's going to die down here.

Black Space is really depressing. It's a scattered mesh of Sunny's shattered memories, repressed trauma, random thoughts, and past ideas. It's the most brutally honest look into the fragmented mess Sunny's become.
From seeing Omori and Dream Basil walking together in the forest only to vanish, to a room where Omori's friends walk away from him no matter how much he tries to reach them, or another place where he just gets teleported away if he tries to get near. To a playground that's a reflection of the Forest Playground and Faraway Park. To the nightmarish versions of Mari. A room located under what would be her bed that just simply has letters that say IM SORRY. To a strange Sweetheart creature that speaks in broken language. To being afraid of a blender for being loud. To Kel just running by super fast. To an area where a bunch of Aubrey's fight over him because he can't pick one. To a red maze filled with toast that turned into dead Mari's and then nightmarish versions of her that tell him to look at what he's done. To the many Little Ones that are former Dream Basil's crying out for help and apologizing when they die. A room of Faceless people that talk to Omori like a former friend and give vague warnings or criticisms, only to come back and they all just say they don't remember him. The slowed, sad versions of songs from Headspace and Faraway.
It's sad to walk through this place. Every place, even silly ones, are just outwardly sad. The whole place is just...a broken mess of who this kid was and is now. You know what? I'll give Woodchip one thing. This game does a damn good job of emotionally manipulating you into caring about Sunny. I want him to be happy again. I want everyone to be happy together again. To see each other again tomorrow. I wish Mari could have lived. I love this game.

And something I stumbled on. I forgot about this secret. When you complete the Hikikomori route, a new text file is added to the Omori game folder.

This particular subspecies of Aubrey, dubbed the Yanbergine for it's unusual hunting method of Sunny's and adjacent varieties. She will locate a Snuuy that has recently lost it's Mari figure, and slowly ingratiate itself to the brokenhearted Sunny. If done properly, the Sunny will go through its usual process of re-imprinting on the Yanbrey as if she were a new Mari.
Once the process is complete, the Sunny will undergo fairly similar development to a Mari-lost Sunny until stagnating at the regular naps stage. The Yanbrey will continue to provide for and predate on the Sunny as it becomes dependent on any form of love and attention received. The Sunny will spend most of it's life sleeping or providing the Yanbrey with what she wants; wants which ranges from cuddling, listening partner, bedwarmer, mating, etc. The Yanbrey is incredibly territorial when it comes to her respective Sunny, often finding homes where the Sunny can be kept away from any other living being. The Sunny's instincts at this stage encourages it into obedience and will almost never wander or seek out others.
While initial estimations of this relationship deem it as undoubtably parasitic, scientists have noted that it's unusual for Sunny's to live past the initial Mari-lost stages without assistance. When introduced to a Yanbrey, the survival rate skyrockets to a staggering 90% which leaves mainly natural causes as a threat to its life. The idea of introducing Sunny's to a relevant Yanbrey was initially suggested for conservationist efforts, but seems unlikely for serious consideration with how drastically this affects the development and growth of a Sunny.
It is currently believed this sudden and significant change in the garden variety Aubergine's behavior is due to the change in her bow. The usual bow of blue color has faded to a dull white color, reflected in the irises becoming much paler in color. Research is still pending on the true effects this change has on the Aubrey's development.

Excluding Mari and Basil, the dream friends attire seems to be reminiscent of what they'd sleep in. Hero has pajamas, Kel's got light clothes, and Aubrey wears an oversized shirt. During the sleepover at Basil's house, the blankets they use even share the patterns and colors of their dream counterparts. Omori's clothes are based off the piano, but also sleepwear. So a girl Sunny wearing panties makes sense for that train of thought.
It's also just a little funny for girlmori to wander around all of Headspace and elsewhere in nothing but a tank top and panties and nobody mentions it because it's a dream. I personally prefer a skirt because it feels more counterparty to Omori's shorts/boxers on top of being more appropriate, but this is nice also.
