Alright, so who SLASHED the gang at the end of the Knight fight?

Evidence for the Knight: Obvious motivations, the sprite is literally called spr_roaringknight_slash_white_horizontal, the Knight waited to land a cheap shot once the gang proved too troublesome

Evidence for Kris: Slash comes from his position and direction, easier to catch Susie off guard than a slash from the Knight, Ralsei practically ignores the Knight after the first slash, looking up at Kris and saying "How could you" with a shocked expression, Kris is clearly in cahoots with the Knight, and gets "Knighted" (according to the sprite name) directly after the two are slashed, we never see the knight in any form of attack stance while the slashes happen

Counterarguments against Kris: How could he oneshot both Susie and Ralsei in rapid succession outta nowhere, why does Ralsei not mention it afterwards, why does he get stronger than Susie if fighting the Knight after the others get downed only to down them himself anyway, how does Kris do all this when we never even see him move

Counterarguments against counterarguments against Kris: Kris backstabs Susie, a kind of attack (shown not a minute prior against Tenna) that is extremely potent, and Ralsei is a weak little baby, Kris might be using a secret weapon/technique we are unaware of (e.g. his Knife), Kris might intentionally be closing his eyes so we don't see him do it, it may have to do with the Prophecy or Kris/Player shenanigans so Ralsei shuts up about it

He has been shown to have abilities that he can utilize when he wants to, X-slash is a prime example. He used back in chapter to and could use it in future chapters if he wanted to but he doesn't. It is not unreasonable to assume that he could knock out Susie with an attack we haven't seen before. X-slash would do enough damage to down Susie, the attack he probably did could do so as well even if it was just the one strike.

I believe this comes on down to the prophecy, we do not know the whole thing but a mural could say some thing like "The three hero's fall to the knights attack". This is just speculation but that would account for Ralsei being shocked at Kris striking susie and later him. In Ralsei's mind he saw Susie actually damaging the knight, but how can that be? The prophecy said they would fall, since Ralsei believes the prophecy must come true, then Kris had to have strike Susie and Ralsei down. He had no other choice, the prophecy demanded they fall and they fell but not at the knights blade. (This is the weakest part of the argument since it is all speculation, but I think it fits)

Going back to the X-slash argument, if Kris IS purposefully sandbagging himself then he no longer needs to do so once his friends go down. There is no one else to notice that he is stronger then he lets on.

I like the theory that Kris did it, but it's hard to get over the sprite name, Toby usually lets us figure out secrets in the files - unless he's intentionally trying to mislead us really hard in this matter.
I think with Ralsei, it's more that he dared to hope that the gang could actually beat the Knight after doing so well, and seeing Susie crack the blade. Right at the ultimate moment of triumph over the Prophecy, it all comes crashing down once Kris SLASHes them, and he becomes despairpilled once more (hence his monologue right after the fight). Also, we know he's been talking to Kris intentionally out of our 'earshot', so the two have some shared secret, perhaps Ralsei's in on Kris' plan to some degree.
It gets weird when you factor in his attack power rising against the Knight - if anything, his attack would drop, right? Why bother with the pretense? Or maybe it's for our sake, and he thinks we somehow haven't noticed. But then, why does it rise? I've just been a lurker, but I feel compelled to say this because it was revealed to me in a dream.
I believe I know what the end of the Prophecy is. It's about the three heroes having to never meet again.
Yesterday, I decided to watch Andrew Cunningham's streams. When meeting Ralsei for the first time in Castletown, if you do not run at all, he says something like “you know you can run, right?”. If you reply that you know, he says

It's a somewhat obscure piece of dialogue, as I've never seen it myself playing first-hand. But I think it's some slight foreshadowing to the fact that “these leisurely days” will not last for long. I was a proponent of the Prophecy ending with all the Dark Worlds disappearing, and I think this is taking that to its most extreme conclusion.
I do not think Deltarune is about escapism, but rather it's about “letting go”, about moving on: it's about finality. Let's not forget that this is also a coming of age story. “The friends you made during high school might not be there anymore, but you'll still have the memories” - that's what Don't Forget is about.
Something that also catches my attention is that Friendship - the track that plays right at the end of Ch1's Dark World, when you say 'goodbye' to everyone - very prominently features the Don't Forget motif. Considering that this is when the Lancer Fan Club's friendship is solidified, I think it has a lot of relevance.
And I think that's what the ending will be. Just like in Undertale, the game will ask you not to play it again, to let it go. And the Snowgrave route will, in part, be a reversal of that: the player doesn't want to let go, and will “freeze” the story before all the friends they've made have to depart (let's not forget that the player is also a character in-game). Though this is a bit more far-fetched imo.

They (Kris, Carol, and Alvin) summoned us because for whatever reason our existence in their world seems to be fundamentally necessary for the creation of fountains, and they need the fountains and the dark worlds within them in order to resurrect their lost loved ones (Asriel, Dess, and Gerson). They may believe that The Roaring would allow darkeners, in particular those darkners patterned after lost lightner loved ones, to return to the "real world".

They learned they could summon us from Kris. We are, in Chara's words, "the demon that comes when people call its name". The manifestation of completionism, avatar of determination, whatever you want to call it our "motivation" at the end of the day boils down to a desire for victory over a sufficiently challenging task, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes. Kris and Catti attempted to "summon a demon" when they were young, and Kris would often "pretend to tear their heart out and chase Noelle". Team Roaring may even have deliberately orchestrated events in their world and environment so as to create the perfect conditions for a "game" to exist, thereby summoning our presence.

In myth, a demon is a creature of incredible power that is summoned to accomplish a task of sufficient importance to risk summoning it in the first place. Demons come with rules, and if those rules are not followed it will breach containment and kill everything. Kris is our "salt circle", the vessel we were summoned inside of. Our cage. Kris, Alvin, and Carol intend to use our power to accomplish a task (the creation of the dark worlds) that they could not accomplish themselves, and to discard/banish us the instant they no longer need us, desperately hoping that we won't figure out how to escape our cage before they're done needing our power.

Asriel goes to college. Kris is now a fresh faced teen and has changed from being a little brat to being a withdrawn weirdo. Noelle notes that Kris has changed a lot over the years following dess disappearance but nobody else seems to notice or care.
