We are told the knight is bad.
Why? Because they're bringing on the roaring by opening fountains.

In chapter 4, we learn that anyone with a knife can open a fountain willy-nilly with zero cooldown, and you can insta-roaring by stacking fountains in one another.

The fact that the knight isn't spamming fountains 100 layers deep in the bunker where no one can stop them is proof that they don't want the roaring and aren't evil.

If it's Wierd route, then the soul instead tracks down Noelle and shit gets even wierder, probably with a bunch of deaths instead of any reconciliation.

I think Toby would need to really up the feminine options in upcoming chapters if he wants Kris to actually come across as a "they". Kris is basically 99% masculine representation and actions, with 1% feminine outfits.
I personally find it really difficult not to see Kris as a "he". Compared to the amporphous blob that was Frisk where you genuinely couldn't tell wtf it was even supposed to be.

While we are the reason Kris becomes friends with Susie, most of their more intimate moments together have been because of Kris' actions or mannerisms. When we're fully in control, Kris is just deadpan...but some of the few genuine expressions of heartfelt emotion are all them.

Spamton was thrown in the trash, but was able to become a [Big Shot] within the narrative (and fandom), while Ramb was ultimately discarded by the narrative itself. His narrative role of hinting to the player of the existence of the Weird Route is largely superfluous in the age of the internet and the nature of drawn out episodic content, and us gaining the Shadow Mantle is more often associated with Eram instead of Ramb, despite him being the one to set us on the path to get it.

I completely missed the S rank game my first time playing Chapter 3 and I think that's a massive reason I didn't like it very much and found it kinda underwhelming. It just felt like it was missing something (because it was).
I really think it should've been reworked in some way because missing out on the S rank and not realizing that a significant portion of the chapter is hidden behind it really fucks with how it plays out and it's frustrating to have to replay the entire chapter just because you passed a point of no return early on with no warning.

The reason 3+4 took too long is a mix of

The game maker excuse may sound silly but they did mention looking for another engine for a while but unsatisfied, so they started just asking the game maker devs to create features for them. Deltarune is basically the driving force of new game maker features. There was a time when we were publicly waiting for an engine update so we could beta test chapter switching.
>ch3 identity
Toby has talked in the newsletters about how figuring out what ch3 would do was really hard because it necessarily dictated the direction of the rest of the game. In the final release we can see this with MANTLE and the knight and Ralsei's arc. There are some indications from scrapped content Toby shared or stuff in the code that Noelle was originally gonna be in chapter 3, and/or Undyne to have a more visible role.
Toby said ch4 development was a lot smoother in part because they knew how the rest of the middle of the game was playing out after figuring out 3.
>mismanagement
Toby went from mostly making a game himself with some asset contributions from other people to managing a larger team. He was not prepared for this and he didn't have the whip cracking. He has since hired a producer to keep everyone in line.

There was a point in the last few years where Toby's hands were so physically disabled that he used a foot pedal to click his mouse. He hasn't talked as much about it since then, but it seems like maybe his surgeries and physical therapies have worked out, because it is believed to be him playing Kris's piano in ch4. Based on how Lena described the recordings on Bsky.

I would say only a couple of the things you listed are more commonly associated with males, like mean pranks and sharing a room with the older brother. But Kris simply being "aggressive and ruthless" or "hiding their emotions" are weak arguments, and flirting/acting are outright reaches since this is our input. Since Toby's games already have several clearly established aggressive female characters, nothing would theoretically be preventing Kris from being another one. Plus, we live in the 21st century where no one really thinks of men as all aggressive and girls as all soft anymore.
