Uki Uki Tsuri Tengoku - Ningyo Densetsu no Nazo (Japan) is the biggest piece of shit I've ever tested. There's a garbage buzzing noise that starts when you enter your name. It happens in duck, mednafen and Ares. I can't hear it in the Jap videos on Niconico and I assume they're using real hardware but maybe it's just not picking up on their mics. I want to be 100% certain but it will absolutely not work on a CD-R. So fuck it I guess I'll never know.

Yknow, I've never had burn speed make the difference for me. It was always something with my image or media or the burning app's settings. Not to criticize your process, I just wonder if it's ever been the difference for anyone.
>>528589717It 100% makes a difference once you start getting into poorly programmed garbage. I have a PAL system and 10x is usually fine for PAL and NTSC. For the sort of jank ass Jap games I test I usually have to drop it to X5 or X2 in some cases. But this fishing tripe doesn't work at any speed.

First, it's fuckhuge and I prefer playing in the living room. Two, a hazy purple isn't black so any horror game is assfucked from the word go on any other tech. Does GPU matter much for emulation? Debating buying a 9060 xt
>>528796547Once the 3D enter the chat, yes. True, CPU matter a lot too, but don't sleep on GPU.
>>528796547A 1060 6gb(~$80) is sufficient for up to 7th gen. ShadPS4 is VRAM hungry so you probably want a 3060 or greater with >=12gb (~$200) for that. Check passmark scores for AMD/laptop/APU equivalents. Anything beyond that's gravy. Bear in mind anything >=7th gen is not guaranteed to work properly at all. Some stuff's great, some stuff isn't.
As for CPU don't buy anything less than a 5800X, X3D if you can swing it. Intlel parts are defective now. Probably just wanna get on the AM5/7xxx/9xxx train just so your hardware's upgradable though.
>>528799982>A 1060 6gb(~$80) is sufficient for up to 7th genGTX 980M 8GB faggot here: Do not trust this motherfucker.
A GTX 1060 can't do shit to play modern slop, and it will choke hard if you try to emulate PS2 with Parallel-GS. Forget about 3D Saturn games with CRT-Royale shaders; ShadPS4 is going to run like fucking trash. Man, you won't even be able to emulate Metal Gear Solid 4 on current Elad's bullshit on RPCS3.
Anyone who's tempted to get a GTX 1060 6GB for emulation purposes in 2025, the year of our Lord Jesus Christ... that poor soul is nothing but a complete retard with zero opportunity for redemption.
My brother in Christ, get that 9060XT.

>>528801209Never said anything about modern slop. Talking about minimums for <=7th gen.
>PGSI have an AMD APU equivalent to a 1060 and it runs PGS fine. Not multiplied to the max, though. Like 2-4x.
>RoyaleIs totally fine on a 1060. Saturn has no bearing

>ShadAlready said 3060 min for that.
Chill your tits. I'm talking about the minimum card for up to 7th gen and a 1060's fine. Elad3 leans more on CPU than GPU unless you uprender. Obviously one wants a more powerful card if you can get it. I'd say a 3060 12 is the bare bare minimum one should buy if they can. If one ONLY cares about up to 7th and no slop, a 1060 is fine. Even my APU runs plenty of slop and can run Bloodborne at 720/30.
I wish the 9060XT was in the market and ~400 like it is now when I bought my 4070. I could use that extra 4gb. Seems similar and like it trades blows otherwise. Maybe a little less powerful.
>>528796547You can emulate games on sub-$200 pre-builts.
FSR is a lousy upscaler though. I'm surprised DLSS hasn't been wrapped to work on everything. At this point I doubt it truly relies on Nvidia's hardware. It's probably just some closed/proprietary algo.
>>528809794>It's probably just some closed/proprietary algo.Bingo, which makes it even more bullshit when 20/30 cards supposedly don't support framegen. Not that you'd want to use that anyway, it looks ugly as fuck.

>>528815976thank you, i deserve the implied insults
but yeah if you wanna get a mid-range ~$400 GPU that's actually good for everything, the 9060XT guy is right about that, or a 4070. I'd probably go for the 16gb part even with the lower performance in some games. 4070 does run really cool, though.
>>528816269I wasn't insulting you, just saying if you're going for a cheap/minimalistic setup, those are what you wanna go with. My main PC is overkill for resulation, really.

If you wanna cheap out and get something novel you could get one of those 7840/7940HS mini PCs. They go for about $450-600, have great IPC/emulation performance on the CPU side, and the integrated graphics trade blows with a 1060. You can also partition 8gb or even 16gb to the APU if you have enough RAM.

Front Mission 3 "remake" replaces all 2D assets with AI, runs worse than the original and apparently crashes constantly. When people like Matt say they don't care if emulation is good this is the dystopia we get. and it's not just Mattzek, you've written screeds on here about how you think they're all a monolithic entity that are worth everyone's ire must be destroyed. Even if they are pieces of shit, their combined efforts over decades have allowed you to play and post all the dumb games you do on here.
>>528849607>Every emulator runs it fineAs far as you know
>why do you hate emudevsI think corruption is wrong
>>528850631I'll meet you halfway that blatantly ignoring/WONTFIX :^)'ing issues brought to devs through proper channels is shitty. That you have to infiltrate some discord groomgang like a CIA operative to get anything rolling on Duckstation, because he shut the issue tracker on github down, is also really lousy. I really don't see the point of that. He's throwing away free crowdsourced QA. There will be jeet/kiddie/retard non-issues but those can be easily filtered and closed. I don't think they're all as bad as 'zek though.
but also, there's a reasonable expectation that any Playstation (or hell, Playstation 2) game you download will be playable to credits with minimal issues. I think that's a respectable achievement. We'll never see that in >=7th gen emus.
(not giving Stenzek credit for that, just the general state of PS1 emulation) I still find whatever issues you discover interesting, though.
Does using something like fsr + a crt shader make sense or is it redundant?
>>528851773FSR is not at all a fit for SD content and pixel art. It will smear things terribly and ruin the image before it's even processed by the CRT shader. Decent shaders like Royale, GeomDeluxe, and MegaBezel are sufficient without FSR applied first. FSR is best used with a 1080P source upscaled to 4K. It's meant to neaten up an already fairly high res image.
>>528851245I would think 7th gen would be easier with the advent of quality control and 99% of games are made on the same 3 engines. The reason there's so many weird broken Jap games on PS1 is because game development was a side hustle for a lot of companies. The game division would be half a dozen guys in a closet on floor 43 of a 200 floor light-bulb manufacturing conglomerate.
>>528852190You're right, anon.
What about ScaleFX + a CRT shader instead?
>>528852214Perhaps, but that's not what we're seeing in practice. One nice thing about PS1, even with the janky software, is that it's such a potato that we can emulate what it's doing to the cycle without HLE, compatibility layers, and other approximate crap. 7th, in particular, will probably remain worse emulated than >=8th a decade from now because it's all exotic PowerPC shit instead of a locked down ARM/x86 box.
>>528851773>>528852423The whole point of CRT shaders is they upscale. If you upscale before using one you're just slapping a shitty overylay on top of the image.

>>528852643>we can emulate what it's doing to the cycle without HLE, compatibility layers, and other approximate crap.Yes It would be nice. Most emulators including sucko just skip large chunks of the system entirely. It's why none of the Datel games boot.

I think I remember hearing that this animation was actually outsourced to North Korea which would explain a lot.
>>528796329Of course not. Unless the update only increases resolution and framerate and nothing else, because you can already do that with emulation.
You can't have all the Pokemon SV improvements, for example.
>>528852214That sounds nice until you take PS3 in account. Early to mid gen games made with generic shit aren't that hard to emulate, they aren't even intensive since they barely utilize hardware properly, basically treating it as a dumb, weak PowerPC. But when you get to later the gen and they learn to use the arcane shit that was Cell+RSX, shit gets dicey.
>>528874607lol no, the gamepad was underutilized. Worst case scenario you can just have it as an overlay and use it as if it was a HUD element, since most games would just display a map or something like that.
>>528869278Do you just say this every time you see scanlines? I've set those shaders up to look nearly identical gamma-wise to the source.
>>528886275How would that make the production easier or cheaper in any way? You'd only do that if you wanted to make it weird on purpose
>>528886943This, unless you're playing Starfox Zero (don't) most other titles can be dealt with via little work arounds or remaps. If you have a gyro capable controller you can map the GamePad gyro to it, and games that use the stupid mic/screen blow can be mapped to a button.

>>528890541I understand that, but wouldn't communication with them be difficult, and isn't trade with them generally hard to set up? It's not like broadband/cell data was common like it is now, where they could just upload you the results. I believe it's tricky now to make such digital transactions with them, let alone then. It just doesn't seem like an established trade hub. You'd probably get just as good/better results with easier communication and trade with Mexico, or just some novice college kids.
I don't claim to understand how trade works with them, just seems needlessly difficult for a janky product, even if it's cheap.
Unless the devs had some weird insider relationship with them. I dunno.
>>528890954One hand doesn't know what the other's doing. Dingo Pictures is/was a scam run out of a guy's house in Germany. Maybe he outsources it to South Korea and they on the sly out-outsource it to the Norks.

I feel silly not tuning my 7800X3D for lower temps, it's getting so hot so I went ahead and added a thermal limit at 70C°, offset -0.015 on vcore, offset +150mhz on operating freq, and I'm shocked that the performances are basically the same but it's running 12C° lower than before and quiet. This is on top of the CO -22 all cores I was already running, and stupidly thought that was the only thing you could tune on this CPU.
I'm posting this here because I wish someone told me this was possible. You can do all this directly on the bios.
Is there any guide or tip for getting MAME up and running full feature set these days? I wanna grab marquee pics and a nice rom set but it's all very outdated stuff and the links half of em won't work, is there any definitive mame pack 2025 type thing? Pls spoonfeed I rly wanna reconnect with the arcade games of my youth
>>528909639Yeah, I noticed AM5 generally needs some tweaking to run at it's best/cooling. You found the settings I would have mentioned.
>>528913362*at its best/coolest, just kill me already
>>528913285Find the latest merged set you can on archive.org and download it, then the matching Arcade64 version. That's most of the work. Then just download samples and other shit if you need and want them, should be easily google'd
another EZ same-temp basically-the-same-performance trick on AM5 is limiting the TDP.
>>528913880I'll try I installed a rom pack on top of my fresh install of mameui, but half the rooms simply don't work, so many junk files to deal with, I'd like to find one where at least the roms in the files all work
*lower temp -- don't work or get old, kids.
>>528914283It's imperative that you find a set that matches your version of MAME if you want a smooth experience.
They change the romsets and filenames MAME looks for all, the, time. I'm convinced it's because they hate us. Are people really redumping all these games in better ways with this frequency? I doubt it.
>>528914530I see thanks I found one for the latest ver, holy shit it's 70gb, but whatever, I'm gonna end up with a 100gb folder for an emulator for 20 yo arcade games... But hey if thousands of them actually work it's worth it
>>528915446You could just download a set of BIOS ROMs and pull from crocdb and you'll probably be okay.
See my post here:
https://arch.b4k.dev/vg/thread/525393008/#525978368
Otherwise yeah, the safe and best bet is to just get a match set + MAME version then build on from there as releases drop. You can download new MAME ROMs as new MAME versions and sets drop and have MAME look for them in multiple folders. That way you don't have to get the whole goddamn thing again.

The only shader I'd pre-apply before a CRT pass is one that removes dithering like CBOD or SGENTP. This way you can remove checker/jailbar dithering and still use sharp RGB style shading.

Anyone else using Batocera? I would consider my question emulation related. Has anyone else used the wine runners for windows games? Games run incredibly smooth, but at a price. Input lag. I can't get rid of it using wine for windows games. Works perfectly fine in Endevouros and Windows. (sorry, but windows definitely wins in this department, Endevouros is so close it doesn't matter for me.) Any suggestions? I use a mangohud command in linux to either disable vsync or force a certain vsync method, sometimes a framerate limiter or whatever else I might need. I don't see an option like that in Batocera. I'm on the latest stable batocera with a 6750xt and a 7600x with 16gb of ram. Just curious because input lag is pretty bad on linux. Using x11 helped a lot, but vrr won't activate correctly most of the time.

Ok so if you have a game in parts and an update file all rars, are you supposed to merge them all together? Or just merge the original game and then the update file is applied through the emulator?
>>529268797Also make sure to remind me every once in a while.
>>529240945TFW this game is considered "CP" in the US. (Really.)
Does any extremely BASED individual have a link to this game? It's missing entirely from the redump collection on archive.org, and only has the cue file in the Myrient zip. Nowhere to be found on the searchable clearnet. Anyone have a torrent with the most current IBM redump shit?
>>529264772Phoenix/Midas games seemed to have a regression in 2.0.5 that prevented them from booting.
>>529284959DUDE THOSE UPDATES ARE SO FUCKING FUNNY THEY MAKE ME WANNA MERGE WITHOUT LOOKING!
How come japs never get off their asses and make emulators? Or chinks either for that matter.
>>529290635They do, but only for their eroge machines.
Which Genesis emulator/core has the most accurate sound?
Is it still GX because it has Nuked?
>>529293827Yep, but BlastEm is no slouch either.
So I was playing some MH Freedom last night and saw that just like in vid related the top of gypceroses head flickers around 23 seconds in.
https://youtu.be/3n0Xs1CaVY8
Could some dedicated ciggy tell me if that happens on original hardware?
>>529293827GX, blastem, and ares are I think as good as it gets when it comes to genesis right now. kega fusion
>>529294571>kega fusionIronically, still not a bad emulator to this day. It aged a lot more gracefully than ZSNES.

>>529293918>>529294571>>529294675Fusion has sound problems with some games
Just tried the latest BlastEm nightly and it makes a high pitched ear piercing sound at the beginning of the Stage 1 theme in Alisia Dragoon
Ares seems fine
GX seems like the best option at the moment
>>529295435>Just tried the latest BlastEm nightly and it makes a high pitched ear piercing sound at the beginning of the Stage 1 theme in Alisia DragoonInteresting, you could submit that bug on BlastEm's discord. Mark of Destiny has been known to fix audio problems in new builds once someone has made him aware of said problems.
Last I checked Xenia is a flaming bag of shit, but is kinect support a thing yet?
I really want to try this.

Anyone have any experience with Macintosh emulation? I want to check out the original Marathon games.
>>529306131Nah, but since you brought it up, I might as well try it for myself. Basiliik II, Mini vMac, and MAME seem to be the best options. Mini vMac has a libretro core, so it seems like the easiest emu to work with.
>>529294675>>529295296That Kim Justice tranny on a Kunio-kun sports game video say on the videos that he couldn't play the super famicom dodgeball game translation because it didn't work on any of his "setups" KEK it's obvious that he's using zsnes because the thing works on Snes 9x, how the fuck ppl STILL use zsnes.
I think that creature Pro-Jared also use zsnes.
Vinny Vinesauce was still using Project64 until very recently. He switched to ParaLLEl Launcher after one too many games were fucking up and refusing to run, and even then he still has problems because he can't into plugins.
>>529306710>Azel did wish us to mention that as of this writing, the game has issues with ZSNES that can cause it to lock up, especially after performing a special shot. So use SNES9X, ‘mkay? Neither The Whirlpool nor Azel can be held responsible for lockups in the ZSNES emulator.Gotta love how even the patcher tells you to use Snes9x instead LMAO.
>>529307170>ParaLLEl LauncherUgh, I honestly hate that launcher so much. What's the point of installing a separate Retroarch in appdata of all places? I get its main purpose is for SM64 hacks, but it's still inconvenient.
>>529290226so um which way white man?
>>529312029I was shitposting there, but I'll try and address your question for real. Was it a multipart rar? If so, those definitely have to be merged. Then you apply the update through the emulator. (Assuming you're using something like Yuzu or Ryujinx.)
>>529317180NP, happy emulating!
https://github.com/ares-emulator/ares/issues/173
>Ares STILL doesn't have per-console input settings
This is the one thing preventing me from using this emu at all. Any time you switch to playing a different system you have to completely remap your controls since their automapping sucks dick.
>>529290635Wasn't SFF a jap emu?
>SSF is a Sega Saturn emulator developed by Japanese programmer Shima and first released around the turn of the new millenium. One of the system's more accurate emulators, it has seen multiple updates in recent years to include ISO and bin/cue support where it was previously required to run discs off a physical drive. The emulator has also seen Android support in recent years.
>>529324190>developed as late as 2020Damn, I expected that emu to have stopped development much earlier.
>>529324190I don't usually hear people talk about it. Is it any good?
>>529307170kek right on cue for Smash Remix too
They do, or did, for up to 5th gen. 6th gen+ simply needs more brain/manpower than a solo anonymous hikikomori can provide.
I imagine if a collective of phonebookable nips started making next-gen emulators the Jap glowies would come down on them hard.
>>529329626It was the only option way back then but I think now there's no real reasons to use it over mednafen/beetle saturn. I don't think it could upscale anything.
>chinks
>tech innovation
topkek
>>529336879It'll run on taters still, that's about it. I believe SSF was the basis for a Cotton release on Switch, as testament to that. Any i5 bought in the last decade should do run Beet/Med though.
should i switch from yuzu 4097 to some new fork for TOTK? is performance much better?
>>529337115Not really... but fuck it, you might get some incidental fixes for other shit. If Eden sucks just go back to Yuzu final.
>>529335695India sucks so fucking bad it's unreal. Who do we blame more, though? Indians for sucking or the British for modernizing and globalizing them?
>>529336879>Saturn upscalingFirst, stop. Upscaling means something else. Every emulator upscales. I know it rolls off the tongue but it doesn't mean increasing the game's resolution like you think it does.
Second, basically no Saturn emu uprezzes because the emulators that do it have serious problems with both the core emulation and increasing the resolution in many games.
>>529337371One can only imagine how different things might've turned out if Alexander had succeeded in conquering them.
>>529337785anyway Yabasanshiro and Kronos can upscale
>>529337930Cool, the sound and VDP emulation is fucking wack, though. It "OOOOPscales" though, sure.
>>529337843I don't. I just imagine how different it would be if they weren't CEOs and smelly weak rapists in our countries, that probably get caught so often because they barely manage or bungle their assaults. I imagine if they were left alone to play weird sex Twister in their Dark Soulsian poison river and never given a pipeline to Europe or built up to compete globally by pretentious Angloids.
>>529298013Xenia's getting better believe it or not. I never thought I'd say it would match RPCS3's compatibility or get even close to it, but I think canary gives it a run for its money. Especially with RPCS3 on the downward spiral and people reporting new games breaking all the time. With some ini tweaks like gpu cache clearing it's solid with more games than you might think. Feature set/UX is pretty lacking though.
I also found switching to XMA's new decoder and SDL to fix some sound issues in a few games in Xenia as well. Of note, be sure to lower the sound buffer to the minimum amount in xenia_canary.toml. It's laggy by default.

Which RetroArch shaders are suited for using on an Android phone? Is there anything good to test, or just stick with overlays?
This game is excellent and could have been easily McLocalized. Just color one of the kids black, change the story to a hunt for the hidden treasure of KFC or some shit and add a splash screen telling lil' Cletus and Hooter to be all they can be and die in the Middle East.
And that's 1800. If someone wants to update the wiki info. I've got one more game I need to check on real hardware when I get some more CD-Rs and then I'm taking a break.

>>529430450idk but i can play monster hunter freedom on it just fine so you have no excuse.
>>529414991Hopefully not. It's too risky given that Nintendo is owner of the Ryujinx/Yuzu codebases and claims that the emulators are illegal and thus the license on previous versions of the code is invalid. No one making anything new should touch either with a 10-foot pole.
>>529435834Nintendo don't own anything and certainly not the Ryujinx code base.

>>529430450You could probably cut a lot down by turning off buffering in the main settings, using VRR (pretty much every flat panel worth owning has it now) in a high refresh rate container (120hz+), and using the D3D11 renderer. Per RTSS it gives me the least lag. Feels pretty okay to me in shmups like this and Gradius/Parodius.
