It is, don't worry about the meta stuff - just play around and enjoy the story. The only thing you can "brick" yourself with is spending eligma in the eligma shop, so don't touch that until you know what you're doing.
The endgame content lets you borrow characters, borrowing a maxed out character will carry you through the early stuff, your own roster will not be what makes or breaks that.
The rest of the game (story and missions) is mostly just a case of matching colours and doing some basic CC vs some enemies. If you're getting stuck then chances are you just need to level up more, which is purely a case of spending energy.

I also forgot sAyane and sShizuko were in the archived events - they're very useful too even in endgame and Ayane has a helicopter. The vehicle students were one of the things that I loved when I was new.
