Meanwhile, the more competent criminals continue to live among us.

>>528617985True for most things. Game art and polish/juice are the exceptions. Prototype your game with capsules and greyboxed levels. Make sure the core systems function and are compelling before you spend time and effort putting art and juice on it. You should go through at least a couple ugly prototypes before you touch game art (unless you're very lucky and things just work).
"Make it exist first" DOES apply to concept art. You should be gathering references and making lots of quick ugly thumbnails to concept your game ASAP. At least that's how I prototype the art and UI and pretty much anything visual/spacial I'm unsure of.

a pedophile likes children and doesn't get married to milfs (plural), jews lying and hating prophets is literally nothing new they have a long history of doing just that (they believe that jesus is burning in poop btw)

You also have your hand over the thing you're drawing on. Not usually a big dea.
I'd say using a screenless tablet is more like using a mouse since you move the mouse without looking at the mouse, you form a connection between the hand movements and screen movements.

>>528637262Fun jank can only happen when you have some kind of system running in the background (i.e. physics).
It can't happen if you hardcode most of the stuff (simple 2D games, like Undertale or Balatro) or just use an engine's existing systems (Unity, etc.) cause they're polished over many years, and also sanitized so that if anything goes wrong the game just crashes quickly and devs spot that during testing.
Basically you need to either be an enginedev (Heavy Rain was made in a custom engine), or have your game be complex enough to require building your own systems that Unity doesn't provide inside it, which doesn't apply to most indie games since they're small.

Hytale was trying to be Minecraft but better, but that logic doesn't work nowadays, unless you have infinite scope. Games past 2010 were easy to work this way because the technological improvements were much bigger than we have nowadays.
He canceled his RTS game for the same scope problem.
The only way to succeed is to make a game that can be played in parallel with other big titles, such as Minecraft, you can't beat them because they are still actively updated.

>>528639818>>528642519I assume this is about directly asking whether an object is visible.
This is instead of having a variable and, every single time I set an object to visible or not, changing that variable to equal the visibility of that object. That's unwieldly and clunky.
Even if that object is not used (has no texture) there's no harm in using it as a boolean, which is what I do in this case. Sometimes the object has no texture but it's visible to represent that it should function as if it is visible. It's both the physical active property and a boolean at the same time which keeps things neat.

>>528617584 (OP)Finally, I believe I recharged enough to continue with the level design. I've been sitting and creating sprites without a real goal as I wasn't sure how to properly draw interesting buildings. I really need to have coherent looking assets to plan how to make them work. I'm pretty scared anyway as it's difficult to make a city level that is both interesting to traverse and grounded in reality. Most platform games, and even 3D action games, tend to just place everything whatever with illogical platforms, bottomless traps and confusing layout just to make it hard for the player. Now realistic city will leave us without challenges and ultimately boring. It might be the biggest problem that I'll spend the most time.
we live in a benighted age
>>5286439693d platformers need levels, as far as i am aware, unfortunately
>>528642848Ah, it was more about using the green $references which refer to the direct path in your node tree. Those can screw you over if you decide to modify your node tree, since the path to the node is no longer valid. Then you have to rewrite all the $references, which, depending on the size of your script, can be quite a time consuming enterprise. In most cases it is more practical to use var references like for instance
>@onready var bulge: Node3D = $positionnode/legleft/pants/bulge at the beginning of your script. This is more efficient and also saves performance, if I am not mistaken. So instead of the whole nodepath, you only use "bulge", to reference to it. If you now need to change something in your bulge node structure, you just need to change the path in your var reference at the beginning of your script, instead of changing every line with the $reference in it.
>>528644040Yeah I don't see the point of a tablet making that easier at all. It looks exactly like my workflow. The brush is doing all the work.
>>528644397Fair enough
I find it easy enough to handle it by searching for all references to the nodepath, because the nodepath has an absolute name that's really easy to search and replace.
I've never liked onready for the fact it can break if anything happens before ready is finished
Often I'll have a local variable for the path of an object I'm fetching from an other script just to keep things tidy but that's a bit different
>>528644397They'll figure it out eventually when they end up rewriting a long ass script and feel stupid as hell lmao. I'm not even a programmer I'm an artist for our project but I still know enough code to do things when I need to for objects I'm working with and even I know to type "@onready var " " = 'whatever I shift drag over' at the beginning of my scripts.

>>528644774I can't remember since it's been years but it's likely in case any other script refers to the variable, because of how the order of things works.
It could also be that the onready wants to refer to something that's only properly defined after ready, or in another script that hasn't readied yet.

>>528644941So you're doing it wrong on a hypothetical of a hypothetical?

>Which would include reading documentation.Nah. I rarely touch the godot docs anymore since I know everything I need.
Chances are at this point I've already tried all of the alternatives and found it's not suitable in some way. Sometimes I'll come back to it to try it out and it might be applicable but usually it isn't.
The biggest example of this is setget which I find is generally very awkward and I just wire my own functions instead of having a setget reroute it but I did eventually use a couple for a map editor.
>That's exactly what @onready does...So, for starters, I don't know if @onready is any different to onready, because I don't have access to @onready.
My onready does the following:
>onready>Initializes a variable once the Node the script is attached to and its children are part of the scene tree.Until absolutely everything is ready, it just returns null crashes. That's awful for me and it's very hard to visualize because I have functions that take place both before and after ready. It just doesn't work well with the chain of functions I have in my head.
Meanwhile
>@onready()>Mark the following property as assigned when the Node is ready. Values for these properties are not assigned immediately when the node is initialized (Object._init()), and instead are computed and stored right before Node._ready().so, I don't use @onready because my engine doesn't have it.
>>528647291Yeah, except for the 99.9% of times that they don't. Lol. How do you reconcile a game being good enough to get 1500 wishlists in a SINGLE FUCKING DAY, and then steam never showing it to another person ever again? You absolute retarded mongrel
The /agdg/ rat race is not worth the squeeze. It's not the best game that wins at the end of the day, it's the most marketed. It's counterintuitive but the more time and attention you spend on development the less time you have for marketing and vice versa. Importantly, things like Choice & Consequence, reactivity (to your character's background, their choices, things you've made happen in the world, etc), deeper character building and interactivity between characters (yours and NPCs, your companions with each other, etc)

With a city like that I can have verticality, myriad secrets and all possibilities of exploration, and with in-lore explanation about people trying to live in the city with limited space I can also have freedom in designing weird, confusing paths between houses. Here's an hearly concept, with middle of the city being on a plateau and layers of buildings going down the cliffs on the side

I'm getting rid of my ambient music collection. I don't have your contact info anymore so I can't ask if you want it, but I remember you liking ambient music when we still spoke. It's about 100 CDs and 30 vinyl records, and a handful of tapes. I don't know anyone else nearby who might want it, so if you don't want it I'm probably gonna trash it all or drop it off at goodwill.

>>528676214>Is Osur the most retarded person on the planet? Does he seriously think the reason he had 17k wishlists is somehow owed to his followers on twitter a lot of which are other game developers? He can't be that stupid right. Does he really think the reason he reached a milestone that most games on steam never reach is because his followers on twitter specifically pulled their weight and put him there when it was his publisher desperately shilling the game and botting the wishlists for months>this is why I hate them. This is so insincere and tonedeaf.

>>528680149newGOD you are joining them by giving them attention fight them by ignoring them and posting game dev
>>528679954It doesn't work. Purely because most devs that care about working on their games enough don't want to deal with drama and social networks. The main reason the inner circle formed in the first place and where their unfair advantage comes from is that they are a collection of all the devs that prioritize the social aspect over just focusing on their games and improving. That's how they formed the mafia, because they are all the scum of /agdg/ that is conniving enough to sit around in a server all day chatting with other people instead of making progress. That's what made their bond so strong and why they were hard to deal with until the flop crash of '24 came around

>>528680853It also doesn't make any sense. It's like trying to regulate artists imitating other artists to learn. Shits retarded.
>>528680661original game was a zeldalike, he changed it at some point in development, id imagine a lot of people who were following him didnt like that

>>528663364Lol idea chads and keep your game a secret chad are right. No way do i want my ideas stolen and they succeed from them or worse they clone my in development game and finish it quicker than me and make a lot of money off it

This guy used AI, stole FTL with troonhammer flair and won bigly
>>528681082>It's like trying to regulate artists imitating other artists to learn.I'm tired of explaining to dimwits that 1 artist spending 10 years learning how to recreate a style is not the same as an AI being trained in 30 minutes over some guy's work and being able to draw thousands of pictures in the same style instantly and then share the model with millions of other people.
The same way 1 guy collecting rainwater in his yard is not the same as a giant corporation building a 50 mile long rain-catcher and selling that water instead of letting it go back in the local ecosystem.
Mind you I'm not even against AI as long as it's trained on public domain stuff but to keep bringing up this whole "it's just like artists learning from artists!" is just so disingenuous and dumb. Piracy and theft are not the same thing either and should not be treated as such. Same goes for a AI artists and real artists learning. Who in their right mind would compare a factory to a single human?

This is allowed on Steam, but Blue Archive? Heck no, that game has some slightly sexual undertones, which is just too much.
>>528682630does this really pass as legally distinct? like seriously?
>>528682748Any reason why the clock is down there? It may distract people being in the textbox's periohera vision
>>528682719Except that your example of the company stealing rain water actively depletes resources from the environment and AI training on people literally doesn't interfere with people drawing or making art in any capacity in the same way training off someone for 10 years doesn't influence them at all either.
>>528682923Who cares about Blue Archive, Filipinx. I pretty sure your country has more problems than you not being able to play a video game.
