If you 2h the halberd and block cancel you can do the first r1 over and over again way faster than if you just mashed.
This also can potentially benefit from relics that improve the first r1 by 13%.

As someone pointed out to me in the last thread you can use stamina recovery on hit relic effect to make the tornado regenerate stamina on every little hit, which is actually really good as it allows you to mash with your halberd with no worries about running out of stamina.

i think people are trying too hard to optimize duchess. like i dont think she really has a set "build" that is the best on her. her statline is so wacky, she has no way to regen FP and her weapon bias feeds her a lot of trash weapons, so her damage is going to be pretty bad regardless. most of her strength comes from her dodge and her cooldown ability, and those are always going to be good no matter what you pick up.

in most runs i think you just use the best thing the game gives you for that run, like a good weapon skill to spam against the nightlord or go full on melee dps if you happen to pick up a lot of damage negation and not much else. go spam the boss with a purple hoarfrost stomp, then keep it busy by aggroing it and spam dodge to become unkillable so your real dps gods can do damage.

I started out playing guardian because I thought he was cool and that quickly led to me thinking he was mediocre already, but you don't truly understand how bad he is until you have them on your team and have played enough to notice how much slower/weaker each run with a guardian is. A team of randoms who are green and down constantly are genuinely better to have than the best guardian.

There's a lot of ways you could improve him and he needs more than just one small fix to be good. He's not that survivable despite being the "tank", he has trouble drawing aggro, he can't catch up to anything and he misses constantly on nightlords. His guarding needs to be made better, he should grab enemy attention better, he should have some way to stun bosses like raider can with his wind maybe, and maybe even have it apply a debuff to enemies. Or you can just give him raider's dodge and boost his strength and endurance more.

1. if you look at the scorpion's model, there are little bubbles over his body that are usually associated with scarlet rot on it. They painted them black, I assume they were originally red.

Tanking is not valuable enough in this game, even if he did it perfectly and was a true unkillable carry (not what guardian copers think he is right now) I don't think it's good design because a tank role has no value with souls mechanics unless it's at a level where they are literally invincable. Tanks in other games can apply useful CC and debuffs or do damage of their own, guardian just makes it so everyone has to dodge the party wide aoe attacks for even longer in exchange for a revive that is not fast enough to provide enough unique utility over what everyone else can already do with the revive mechanic. Or they'll just kill the boss so fast nobody has any time to even get to two bars.

A few threads ago I posted a video of my ER character spamming guard counters on Relanna. The difference between a Raider or a Guardian tanking is huge. Raider can easily face tank night lords and red bosses with minimal skill. Especially so if you're at timing your abilities.

To fix Guardian I think you need to remove the majority of drawbacks of entering into steelguard. But also what do you do against attacks that can't be shielded? He can't roll. He does less damage etc.

He needs to have better guard counters than anyone else in the game but he doesn't. Right now, Executor has the best gc because you can guard counter after every deflect.

Remove the stamina drain and mobility nerfs of steel guard and maybe allow him to do his steel guard dash before using guard counters to give them long enough reach for larger bosses. Like you block, counter and dash before the counter finishes to extend reach. Exactly how you could dash cancel laser blades in Armored Core 6.

If I'm being completely honest, Guardian doesn't need more damage if hid guard counters connected more often. Guard counters are that broken in Elden Ring but not in Nightreign because it's harder to land them or even get them.
