Tough to say. There are plenty of Toriyama imitators who can draw his existing designs very well, but new stuff is a dice toss. Might depend on how much work was already being done by understudies. A lot of the designs from the X expansions aren't exactly awe-inspiring.

Hard to say because they haven't announced any sort of plan yet. We know there's good copycats like Fenyo_n and Nakatsuru still around, but they don't 'belong' to DQ, they're freelance, so it's a coin toss if they return to DQ in the future. SE has people in-house like Eiichiro Nakatsu, but he does art mainly for technical purposes and it shows with how rigid his promotional art is compared to the others.

The core of RPGs is the combination of player knowledge/decision-making and character skill vs. stochastic design, and how well the player juggles these elements determines how far they get in a campaign. Including things like timed hits, especially shit like dodges and parries, completely misses the point of RPGs and diminishes the core elements in favor of player skill. It's an attempt to "innovate" combat by hamfisting elements from other genres, without examining anything else like environments, positioning, etc things that we've had in other RPGs for decades.
Mario RPGs are very clearly not serious games and intended for audiences younger than even DQ. No one invested in the genre would seriously recommend them. Same for E33 which is very much intended for people more invested in spectacle and story than RPG mechanics. DQ is a basic RPG series but it's one that's always stayed true to the genre at the very least. In my eyes, DQ falling for the timed-hits meme would be just as damning as going the action route.

Completely agree. DQ gameplay is simple but very polished. I have criticisms for various games in the serious but you almost always see what they're going for. Timed hits would be a signal to me that they have completely lost the plot. I even understood the thinking behind going action based for DQ9, it was a multiplayer focused handheld game and on a certain level that sort of gameplay makes sense even though I didn't want it. But mucking about with some sort of hybrid system just smells like trouble.

I don't mind timed hits in the Mario RPGs but it seems like a totally pointless thing to add to DQ (and a very funny thing to add to the "grown up" DQ, and a pretty silly thing to make a big fuss over when XII was revealed). Whatever the master plan for the battle system was at the time of reveal, which is probably totally different now anyway, I seriously doubt it was timed hits.

I do recommend playing the Tickington stuff, it's in 2D even if you're playing a 3D game so it's a bit weird, but if you've played any past DQ games it's kind of fun and you get a couple of decent goodies.

I figure this is the only reasonable-ish place I could potentially get a remotely timely answer to this question, so here it goes.
Since DQIX and to a lesser extent Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light I've been really interested in the idea of multiplayer turn based games. And while DQX doesn't exactly scratch that itch (I'm also interested in that eventually, but I know enough about that already) I have seen a couple other options. Notably there's a couple options on BYOND (home of Space Station 13 to those who forgot). NEStalgia is probably the big one, alongside several historic Final Fantasy games (Super RPG being the current iteration), but as somebody who is super into job systems Dragon Warrior 3 Online really caught my eye (I went in hoping for FFV but it seems what I wanted no longer exists and possibly never existed). Unfortunately BYOND is currently undergoing constant DDOS apparently by script kiddies who refuse to do actual hard work decompiling shit, and even then I'm pretty sure Dragon Warrior 3 Online was offline for a month or two before then because I dunno the guy who was making it was busy with his sugar gliders or some shit. With that out of the way, I suppose the questions are
1. Did any of you actually play that shit? I'll take experiences of the other BYOND Dragon Quest games if you have them, as a bonus.
2. Was it a reasonable version of DQ3? I don't need it to be SNES or HD-2D levels of polish, I know I'm dealing with BYOND here, but if I wanted to play DQ3 with friends or anyone else would it be a solid way to do so?
3. The long shot would be knowing anything about the game on the back end, probably exclusively known by exactly one guy, which is fine I don't expect an answer to this one.
I don't have any plans on playing it any time soon, like if it's up by 2027 that's probably about on time if not a little too soon or too late depending on how things pan out, but I've been thinking about it enough that I'm really curious.

1. People have to get their SS13 fix. I'm pretty sure that's literally the thing keeping the entire platform afloat. Second is probably whatever version of the DBZ game there is. I think the main dev has a Patreon or something now so I guess there's some reason to keep it running.
2. There's like at least five of them (several that seem to be precursors to DW3O, like Hero's Destiny, all made by Canthus/dphoenix7), and unlike the FF ones I don't think Squeenix has shut down any of them (could be very wrong). Some of them are probably offline for other reasons though, I think Dragon Warrior Online might be hosted but is probably maintained by somebody else because the dev went on to work on NEStalgia that I mentioned earlier. You can go play Shadows of Erdrick right now if you want, there's two whole people on last I checked and apparently there's at least a class system based on some blog post from 2013. And who can forget the incredibly strangely named Dragon Warrior Quest that was recently re-hosted by somebody who got the source code and actually tried updating it.
DW3O apparently made the interesting choice to make DQ2's world the post-game, which is a choice I'm kind of surprised that no DQ3 remake has attempted. Torland might be really weirdly scaled based on that but honestly I'd just be happy to play through some DQ2 content in a fun video game.

The best equipment for a few characters is in the Drustan trials. You can do the dungeon part to get the stuff and not worry about the boss at the end (although you can probably knock off a couple of those too)

I created a character and fucked around in Aliahan a bit so here's my review so far I guess.
The number zero thing you want to do is bind some keys to your controller or some shit because the game's basic controls involve the num pad which is functional but not ergonomic and DQ3 was designed for controllers in the first place so you're free to use the keyboard to call people slurs (note: do not actually do this). You're also going to want to at least check all the guides at the top just in case there's something you're missing and to check the known issues so you avoid them. Then you create your character, with things like class and draconian quests, and you're dumped in a cute little room where you pick your appearance. Except the menu there is godawful in every visual way, the color text goes off the box and you can't even see what the color is until you confirm it so you're going to spend more time than necessary there. After you actually get into the game, it seems to visually be based off the NES version but map design elements from the SNES/GBC version. So yes, Mini Medals are in, alongside some other items in almost every barrel and dresser that may or may not be regenerating random ones or are just sources of new weapon types like fans. Recruiting monsters is also in, you have to set it up in your menu, and I'm pretty sure it limits your party to 3 unless that's some fucked up limitation of the game itself I bumbled upon. I also have no idea how recruiting monsters works (or the bestiary) because I have not left town, so maybe I'll come back later and elaborate more. From what I see it's slightly scuffed so far but is probably the best way to play DQ3 with your friends so if you guys want to do a game night or something it's way easier than setting up 9 or 10.

I said it way earlier in the thread, multiplayer co-op JRPGs are a neat idea and when the standout examples are two Square Enix DS games and the second best examples are a bunch of SNES games that let you fuck around with the second controller you know it's an extremely untapped market. It's not like turn-based gameplay is dead like some people claim, a new popular one comes out every few years and Pokemon exists and is the biggest media franchise on the planet (even if the games apparently made less than Fist of the North Star games well before the new TCG game came out). And online in video games are such a huge part of the industry it's genuinely become a problem. But no, don't make a game where you can sell so many cosmetics, almost anyone can play it, and it has a great justification for dopamine hit mechanics. Surely the thing that would probably take slightly less effort than your average MMO and could even be played okay on fucking phones isn't a good idea. Basically, if we're not getting a 9 remake any time soon there's a huge gap in the market I'm seeing, but I feel like I see gaps in the market that may not even exist sometimes so whatever. Because I've jumped through the hoops to be able to play it, and its like the deja vu you get when going from VI to VII or vice versa, it makes so much sense to me if this is why IX is never getting remade. You're missing what is probably the second biggest part of IX that X can't currently compete with, the entire Grotto system (and to a lesser extent the Legacy Boss grind but that's something they could implement in X tomorrow and I wouldn't be surprised). IX's original appeal was local multiplayer, which you can sort of do with X but it's kind of scuffed, and while we're all expecting an IX remake to have online the only time that would have had a 100% yes it's happening rate is if it started development in late 2020. An IX remake does sort of have a niche, especially given that there's content you can't get unless you set your WiFi to a really old type and also set a specific DNS, not to mention it's the only main DQ game that hasn't been released on more than one console. The main reason they probably haven't remade it is because it's a lot of fucking work, the NES titles are a lot easier to make just from a game design perspective. Plus on top of that the RNG manipulation in the original is fucking insane and is probably part of the game's legacy at this point, alongside two iconic randomly generated maps, so as a developer you have to start asking questions about what to try to preserve and what you can't because it was never intentionally like that. Basically it has a good reason to be remade and not overlap with X, but it's a pain in the ass to do so in all the non-obvious ways and probably the balancing as well if we're only talking about the obvious.

But mostly the sharing them, there's two entire iconic maps, one of which is just straight up referenced in XI. Yeah this game is ASS ass. Like genuine garbage, complete and total kusoge.
The only way i could imagine being able to beat it is getting lucky enough to find a bunch of yggdrasil leaves to revive yourself with a little HP a bunch of times, or grind until you've got a +99 sword so you can maybe oneshot the boss.

They both have similar stats, spell lists and equipment. When I say a character has higher stats, it is not by much. Maybe ten points or so over the other character at max level.
Bianca is a little bit stronger physically, with higher HP and Strength. Her exclusive spells are Blaze and Firebal.
Flora gains more overall MP and Resilience than Bianca. Her exclusive spells are Healmore, Day-Night, and Explodet.
It's worth noting that Flora has an initial level restriction. At first, she can only go up to level 10. Later on in the game she'll be able to go past that. Bianca has no such restriction.
The children are not affected by who you pick as your bride in any way except their hair color.

IIRC it just included 12 in his body of work, not that he actually finished working on the soundtrack. Historically, Sugiyama always worked on music parallel to the games' development. There's even video of him using a scene from DQ11 as a reference for a track during development. Considering that development on 12 really only started in 2021, with him dying in September of that year, I really doubt that his work until that point was substantial enough to carry the whole game.
