Factions can spread settlements up to a cap, can compete for resources to a degree, can caravan and their caravans are visible traveling on the map. More in depth settlements when you visit, more options for interaction, E.G. request a specific kind of military aid, or ask for something in particular to be stocked by a caravan for a price.
More events related to factions, like schisms or alliances.

I think you should be able to appease or otherwise somehow negotiate with mechanoid hives. Probably not be allies but, there needs to be more interaction possible beyond 'They want to kill everyone and that's the sum total of interaction.' Mechs in general need to be looked at because they're so non-interactive. They have some of the most interesting units but some of the least interactive gameplay just because they're immune to heat/cold/gas/fire and their behavior is just 'be a terminator'. They're the raid type you want to pop up least and you get actively punished for befriending other factions because it increases the odds of mechs.

Normal faction sieges also need to be looked at. It's way too easy to snipe their mortars compared to mech clusters. Clusters are like 10x harder to deal with.

My PC is finally repaired, and I'm playing Rimworld again. The first full year of this colony has passed, and the colony has grown by a significant amount. Turns out that Winston Waves with mods that make pawns more durable (no 150 HP damage hard cap before instant death, raiders don't have a chance insta-die on downed, etc) means that you can recruit quite a few people in a short time.

I have encountered what I think is a game breaking bug. I have tried a lot to fix the issue. The raid timer counts down super fast and continues to spawn mechs near instantly. If I dev mode disable the timer the shuttle still sits there as time moves on. I also got a caravan discovered warning as I was leaving. Not sure if it was exact timing. For whatever reason I saved over my main save.
Before posting I actually went and loaded yesterdays autosave. Forced another relic hunt shuttle mission to spawn. Went and did it, got an archotech leg. And THE EXACT SAME SHIT happened. Same detected warning and same mechhive raiding every second or two I dont have a lot of mods installed. FSF more quests could be a culprit?

I went and did the tribal terminal quest. Of course reinforcements came very quickly. I fled to my animals and another raid showed up. I left the map but more raids spawned. I dev moded my caravan back and they kept spawning. I completed a few things on the quest menu too. It wasnt until I destroyed the site on the world map that I got that last quest completed.

Allow charity on bigger scale for large influence boost. Each faction have different manpower, resources and goals that change with time. They can make alliance or unite under player. Influence your ally/vassal with your ideology to give them new techs, which allow them to have new units. As the other anon said, disabling it just gives you an auto-generated ideology which is supposed to roughly match how the game is without ideology, and it sometimes includes holidays and other undesirable factors. I highly recommend you make your own "vanilla-like" ideology so you know what is (and isn't) in it, save it, and just load that up with any new colony you don't want to have one.

Biotech is the only with features I constantly use. I love xenotypes. I love mechs. I love toxic waste. I love toxgas. I love vampires. I love breeding. I like almost every feature of Biotech and actually cannot think of anything that directly annoys me.
Royalty I enjoy sometimes but it has some parts I don't like, such as the constant stream of paralytic abasia refugees which I never accepted in my life because fuck waiting and caring for an invalid for 30 days, the world problem causer mechs which force you to travel especially the more dangerous like the dynamo. It also dilutes the quest pool a lot with its dlc specific items, which can make getting other quest specific items annoyingly hard. It has some features I like but I often don't engage with the main meat of it like psycasting or permits because it requires too much investment for my liking.
Ideology honestly I almost always regret running whenever I add it including right now. I dislike almost everything about it and ironically makes running a dystopia too easy. My non ideology runs tend to be more messed up and chaotic since I can't offset horrible things and mental breaks with ideology.
Anomaly I actually like most after Biotech but it rapes my performance like nothing else. I currently have 4 speed 7 years in a fairly large colony while in Anomaly I lose 4 speed in 1 year and start dipping below 3 speed too without reaching any of my usual sizes.
Some people in this general tried gaslighting me that all dlcs are that heavy, but no it seems uniquely bad, especially since I normally never have performance issues.

Realm of Madness: Vampires or Hellsing Arms Ultimate
RoMV is sort of buggy but works with CE, it's a blast. I used it a lot in early 1.4 when I didn't have Biotech. Has an unofficial 1.5 port, probably will be updated to 1.6 but no guarantees. Unfortunately, it requires Jecstools, but it's not as big of a TPS bomb as Realm of Magic, usually.
Hellsing Arms Ultimate requires HAR and has a lot of extra bloat if you aren't a Hellsing fan, but it's vampirism system is also extremely fun and blowing shit up with the new weapons is cool. It's unfortunately hard-incompatible with Combat Extended, though. The Dev purposefully coded it to be so, and you'll get error spam during combat.

given that its exposed to air fire isn't the solution. Wall off the north and use the south as a choke point with your best melee pawn. Probably going to need two. Plate will help but with something this big it won't be a surefire solution.
