Have any of the big screen beyond 2 with eye tracking gotten sent out yet? I know they said June, but I'm having a hard time finding any normal person consumer reviews. Anyone ever experimented or is fluent with using a second UV channel for tiling a seamless normal 128x128 card of fabric?

I'm having issues figuring out a means of masking out portions of an outfit I don't want affected by it, outside of shrinking everything I wanted 'masked' into a 1x1 portion of the normal that is neutral-enough looking. Otherwise the only alternative I can think of is adding another material, which adds another drawcall. Basically trying to optimize my VRAM usage by dropping a 2K albedo/rough/normal to a 1K albedo+rough w/ a 128x128 tiled normal.

Masks don't add much vram, especially a simple black and white mask to mask an area out. Just mask it out in your detail normal section of whatever shader you're using, and then downscale the mask until it looks wrong, assuming you UV it right in your UV2, you should be able to make the mask so tiny it basically costs nothing.

Is it on a different mesh? or do you want your avatar just dancing? If it's the latter. It goes to the vrc_actionlayer rather than fx layer. FX layer is for toggles and anything not with the main avatar mesh.

and figured out what you said as well.

so for future people, the steps to create an armature animation is:

Step 1: search for vrc_AvatarV3ActionLayer, duplicate it, drag your dupe into your own Assets.
Step 2: edit your dupe, edit the transition between WaitForActionOrAFK and Prepare Standing, where it says VRCEmote Less than 9, make it less than 9999 or whatever so that you can use higher values.
Step 3: just add a transition in and out into your animation with values of VRCEmote that are unused by other stuff there. I just start with 100+

That's it. it's simple and takes 5 seconds once you know what you're doing. Installing VRCFury alone would take me longer than this.

I used it to make this piano roll gimmick last year. code is https://gist.github.com/hiinaspace/efdca97feddef4423cf0bf56dcc729c2 . It also uses modular avatar to merge in the generator animator with the rest of the avatar; which isn't strictly necessary (you can use animator-as-code outside of vrchat), but it is also worth it if you're dealing with avatars. Roughly it works by moving around 10 particle emitters and toggling them on/off from params set over OSC.

I had built the same thing a few years earlier by wiring up the animation state machines by hand (including messing with the animator yaml to correctly turn on/off the emission parameter). animator as code is definitely better.

Also protip in current year you can dump the entire library into context with https://gitingest.com/hai-vr/av3-animator-as-code and slop up as many animators as you want.

Contractors Showdown and Ghosts of Tabor somehow have higher player counts than anything there but Bonelab, although I'm not sure I'd really recommend either one.
Despite the numbers, there are still some active Pavlov and Contractors (numbers are actually higher since it has crossplay) lobbies if you do wanna play pubs. You're gonna be stuck with whatever mods are popular, but you can still find people to play with.
Never tried pub games for TAVR and I'm not even sure Bonelab has a server browser, to me, neither one really makes sense to play with random people, so as long as you can get a couple other people to play, it doesn't really matter what the player counts are for those.

PCVR gaming has declined significantly.
Playerbase on Quest/Standalone versions is anywhere from 3-20x higher. Sales are similar, reflected somewhat in review numbers on each platform.
Games like Contractors or the sequel Showdown are still playable in public lobbies thanks to crossplay but you'll have to tolerate playing with children. Without it they'd probably be dead outside of peak weekend hours or organised lobbies. Pavlov doesn't have Quest crossplay although it does cling on due to PSVR2 crossplay, inertia from the old days and the remaining dedicated autists.

i've got a quest recently and switched from virtual desktop to meta link with a cable because it looks better and has relatively low latency.

its very reliable outside of a couple glitches. 0 lag spikes since its a wired connection.
you DO however need a usb 3.0 cable plugged into a usb 3.0 connection and additionally you need, but arent required, a power injection cable so you can charge while playing.

The "everyone is free to hang with whomever" thing makes the most sense for a 4chan group but it has resulted in the community fracturing to multiple subgroups vaguely related to 4chan or not related at all at this point. Especially on the weekends. And because every group lets in their own kind of randos or people, it leads to much less intermingling of actual anons.
Its funny because we can have groups for events or for exploration because theyre explicitly 4chan events but for some reason when it comes to normal instances, the ones we spend the most time in, we have to pick and choose which sub-group(which are more discord communities than anything) are closest aligned with our values. I'll have access to a Quest 2 for like the next month. Do I need to buy a cable advertised as Quest compatible or will any high speed cable work? All my networking is wired, the only WiFi access points I have are only enough for the 50 facebook notifications to come in as soon as I connect (or they refuse to connect to begin with, I had like 10 tries before it actually connected), can't even play a YT video in the Quest, Steam Link took forever to install, VR streaming was disabled, Big Picture mode loads and runs at like 1 frame per 30 seconds, worse really I got like 3 frames out of it before it disconnected and has horrible compression artifacts. Unless a USBC Ethernet card works that won't really be an option, I can try that but I'll probably need a USB cable. I guess I can try and a hotspot from a newer phone maybe Wifi 5 is enough (mine like my access point is only 4, unusable for Steam Link but at least it does manage to play YT)

NTA but there is nothing wrong with using a cable as long as it is a USB 3.0 or 3.1 cable. The meta branded cable is very overpriced for what it is, but beware of cheap USB 2.0 cables that will give you a truly horrible experience. Look for cables from known companies that sell VR accessories.

Wireless adds a lot of freedom which is really nice for many kinds of games, but unimportant for games where you are seated. It's about what you are trying to prioritize: comfort versus performance.
