It was a lot less obvious in Doug and Renee's case to be fair. They were too young to have kids but they had each other, they had friends and family to (kind of) help them, and they were able to finish school and hold down jobs. They could tell each other they could be poor but happy and it seems like they did actually try to make it happen. They failed obviously, but they had a valid hope that they could do it. If Renee had been more willing to be Andrew and Ashley's mom and Doug had been more lively and ambitious to keep and hold better jobs they might have even managed it.

When Nems stumbled upon that issue, some anons here talked about how there are better modern engines that are much easier than RPGMaker. I didn't ask at the time but what are those engines? What other engine is out there that Namurai could've used to make Coffin or a game like Coffin?

RPGmaker is basically a tool, kind of like Gmod or SFM. You can:
>literally use premade assets to make a simple game in an afternoon
>put in your own assets to make any sort of funny shitpost in like a week
>Really push RPGmaker to it's limit to make a full fledged indie game
>manipulate it to the point where you've practically made a new engine with it (like those guys who made an entire 3D dungeon crawler with RPGmaker)
It's ease of use comes with the drawback of being severely limited though, which is why the last part is what ends up happening for the games that make it big.
