Ok, after looking over the vehicle stats, I've grouped every vehicle into four distinct categories based on their specialization:
Generalist Vehicles (Displayed stats are truthful to you, performs equally well on all roads/terrain)

Characters in-between the lightest and heaviest weight classes receive a slight speed bonus to favored road/terrain, but not enough to tip it in your favor. Vehicle choice matters more. I also suspect that these characters in exchange for the small Speed boost take a slight Handling penalty than what their handling is displayed as on at least one particular terrain.

The manga is full of donut steels. Technically, Daisy's father is one, since he's never actually appeared officially. At this point, I think it's far too late to introduce someone like that or even the Mushroom King, but it would be a nice change of pace. Not true from what I've played. CPU is just having their usual rubberband antics on top of knowing how to shortcut. I think what confuses people is that if you take turns in World like you would in the latter Mario Karts (drift every turn for sharper turns and mini-turbos), you will lose placements because it's slower compared to taking turns normally or simply adjusting your racing lines for the wider turns in this game. World in general rewards smarter usage of the tools, rather than harder.

I don't know if this is something anyone besides me would care about, but if you happen to be playing VS mode with course selection set to Connected, you can guarantee Rainbow Road for the final race as long as the semifinal race is Peach Stadium, and the race before that is one of these nine courses:

>DK Spaceport
>Koopa Troopa Beach
>Faraway Oasis
>Cheep Cheep Falls
>Moo Moo Meadows
>Choco Mountain
>Toad’s Factory
>Mario Circuit
It doesn't matter where the fourth-to-last race takes place, every single course in the game will be able to connect to one of those nine tracks. So, if you're planning an All-Cup Tour style trip around the world, now you know you can pick any course you want up until the final three races, and you'll always be able to end it at Rainbow Road.

I think it's really funny how the penultimate track in World is Mario Circuit from 8 again except way later in the game than it should be. But the Lightning Cup was really butchered in World as well. Usually the Lightning Cup has tracks that are Star or Special level in it. But in World it has two Mushroom Cup courses (both from Wii), and a Flower Cup course.
World's tracks just feel so neutered compared to all of the GCN onwards Mario Karts.
