The game is just very demotivating to play right now if you're not abusing Rune (and Portal to a near similar extent). Other decks are certainly playable but there's only so many times you can get Anne/Grea'd on curve into AnneGrea + Blazing Destroyer + Shikigami into Kuon before wondering if you're even having fun. Paired with the fact that premium currency could only be used for cosmetics or crafting individual cards meant that there was no reason for you to spend money on the game, dropping a huge amount of money would only speed up your progression by a few weeks as if you did all your dailies you would be guaranteed atleast three legendaries each week.

The only "problem" is that this game forces you to be a collector and you can't be an autist that vials entire classes to main your specific shitcraft. Rune and Portal refuse to engage meaningfully with the board. Win or loose, every match against them feels like an uninteractive waste of time.

"Skill issue", yeah ok, sure buddy. I have almost 3000 hours in the first Shadowverse game. Let me briefly explain what the issue is. Shadowverse does not have "interrupts", you can not play or activate cards during your opponent's turn. Also, discard effects are extremely rare, costly, and always targets random cards in the opponent's hand.

What does this mean?

It means that any class that can build power in their hand has absolute agency. Spellboost lowering a card to 0 cost? You now have complete control over when that card is played. Artifact having cogs and gears in hand? You can build the artifact you need now, or build towards a bigger one on a future turn. The opponent can do nothing to disrupt this. Having puppets in hand? They cost 0, have rush without having to spend evo points, and self destruct to prevent the opponent from clogging your hand or board.

If you have never played this game, words cannot describe how soulcrushing it feels to watch blue players muck about with their hands while you play creatures to the board like a caveman.

Rune and Portal are as poorly designed as they always have been, and why? Because Cygames plays favorites. Because they don't understand the appeal of their own game. Because they think unfair and unfun are ok as long as it isn't unbalanced. But it's not ok. Rune and Portal don't play fair, and they aren't fun to play against, even if you win.
