You can get away with more heavy exposition in a pure text format like in VNs, but the more audio and visual elements you bring in, the more you should utilize them. Otherwise, why have them?

Sure, you could spend a thousand words explaining the details of a portrait, but you're playing a Visual Novel. You can just show the portrait.

There's also the point of themes and ideas. If the author just pounds an idea in so forcefully, and without any room for interpretation, why aren't they just writing a philosophy book on the subject? Or at least an essay. Giving room for the audience to get something of their own out of the product makes it a richer product all together.

Though ultimately, I think you can have a bit of both words, and use imagery and themes along with extended exposition. I mean chuunige does that. Lots of information is pounded right into you, to the point of some people criticizing it, but at the same time, there's a lot of more subtle stuff that you won't get until you think about it a bit.

I'm not trying to sound pretentious (heh), but there are like, half a dozen things going on underneath the Nigerian boat fight in Muv Luv alone, and it's something that takes a while to parse for some people.

Likewise, the N route and the O route essentially present two different arguments and ideas, and overall character arcs for the protagonist, and neither are shown as being "correct". The audience is allowed to pick what they think is the right path

The pacing and narrative tone are all over the place. Common route has batshit insane SoL followed by H-scenes literally 2 heroine events in. You can also get H-scenes with all 3 heroines on the same route if you pick right choices. Aya also deserved better, a proper route and definitely not getting hardcore cucked. The fact it deals with "taboo" topics does make boring segments more tolerable.
Overall, 7.5/10, not the absolutely must read kamige before you die, but one of those short oldge that are worthwhile to spend your time on.
