That's where you're wrong, kiddo. In this game, final stats and skills matter more than the rarity of the character. Sure, technically, a 5* character will have a much better start and technically have a stronger unique skill than a 2*, but unless you're planning on whaling big time, you're not getting any 5*s any time soon, and the 2 and 1* currently are more than enough to clear the available content.

It's a lot more complicated than that. Yeah you need good speed, however Power is basically how much you can accelerate in a short amount of time and how easy it is for you to power through and pass other uma's on the track. A late runner or end closer's goal is to stay in the back or around the middle for most of the race to conserve stamina and endurance and then in one burst of acceleration power through to the front of the race and the end. You need high acceleration and passing skill for that kind of play style, you still do need sprint speed regardless of course but not as much as say a front runner.

I dont actually know Goldship events, I know there are restore events that you have no choice in and I dont think those have the debuff chance. But every horse has event where they want to eat and you get choice of something like "We can burn all that fat with racing!" and "No you have to keep your figure in check", the choices and setting change depending on the horse but the idea is the same and the chance of debuff if you choose to eat.
