Doesn’t really matter, dispersion means you don’t have fine enough control outside point blank. It seems to do more damage when hitting less armored parts of the ship but I can’t really say for sure if that’s true. AP seems to do more damage to hull health than HE. Most important thing is to make sure you’re hitting a different section after you black one out. A lot of people waste too much time fishing for magazine kills they aren’t getting and end up losing fights they could win.

It’s a pretty rough grind to get there unfortunately. Jamming every end line battleship into one update really put the US at a disadvantage by skipping the other fast battleship classes. Having to fight Gneisenau, Amagi, Rodney, Mutsu, Vanguard and Bismarck most matches with US 7.7 isn’t a great time. Don’t take any HE shells and only bring ~1/3rd ammo for main guns. It makes the constant shell detonations less punishing. On Iowa it also empties most shell rooms and only leaves the lowest magazine space full. Does a lot for your survivability though you can still get overwhelmed and die to breaches fairly easily.

I doubt it. Bismarck doesn’t compare to the 8.7s but is better compared to the rest of the 8.3s. It’s a way better ship than Roma and the reload I think puts it above Richelieu. Every ship suffers massive damage to basically every barbette hit and the hull meta favors dpm over everything currently so I don’t see it going down since the dpm is very good. I’ve seen it top board fairly consistently in most 8.3 matches I’ve had, while still pulling its weight at 8.7. It isn’t a bad ship it just isn’t what Scharnhorst was for the last three years.

I did the grind in Tennessee first day of the update since I have a tali on her, but I wouldn’t recommend it. 7.7 felt like a blackhole for 8.7, and the ships there will pick you out as an easy target to 1-2 salvo. Tennessee basically cant penetrate the 8.7s reliably at the new combat ranges, especially if they angle. The 1.5rpm aced also means you struggle to get kills and will often have ones that should be yours stolen, guns are just too anemic in the current top tier meta. Alaska isn’t great to play either but the grass isn’t greener at 7.7.

USN has been behind the top tier addition curve since they added Mutsu, and you really feel that now. This update should’ve really been two, with the first having everything up to 8.3, but also including a KGV and either a North Carolina or SoDak, with the second having the 8.7s. Not really. The belt flat on shrugs off most guns in game before this update. If you angle, which you should always be doing, it holds up pretty well against anything in game. If you bring 1/3rd ammo you will only ever die to unsinkability, but that happens to everything because hulls are paper across the board now. I’d say the only reason could be a small upgrade is because a well played Iowa is already just that tough

Yamato is probably the easiest one salvo in game right now, kinda tragic. The stock HE is really rough but once you get AP it’s off to the races. It's reliable enough of tactic to aim for the cupola on T95s/28s cause even solid shot will do a straight 90 degree turn downwards into the crew compartment and either one shot you or disable you long enough for them to do a follow up shot and finish you off. Similar level in most trees, just I stalled out on Japan right before light and heavy cruisers, those last Destroyers of the tree are killing me as their armament seems to be in the torps primairily and I just cant land them all that well.
