I have been playing the game for over a week now on both PC and mobile. I am not F2P as I paid $200 for my first deck. Initially, the economy seems to be very bad (500 gold pack price, lower vial from liquefying silvers, and, critically, no liquefy first 3 copies). I thought it would sucks so bad as a F2P player or a low-spender. One week ahead, I changed my mind. The economy is fine and I can enjoy many good decks. In my current opinion, the only thing that need change is the no liquefy first 3 copies rule.

I am not the luckiest player (no 100 packs key jackpot) and neither I do any reroll. Just straight up normal player that buys all crystal package, plus battle pass. Currently, I have 2 top tier, pretty much fully upgraded decks (puppet portalcraft and artifact portalcraft, 3 if you include hybrid). I also have enough vials from extra cards to upgrade my half-baked decks into good viability (ramp dragon, midrange sword, aggro abyss). The only classes where I don't have enough resources to even make half-baked decks are runecraft and havencraft, in which both have very expensive top tier decks (I am absolutely fine with this, F2P players and low-spenders aren't supposed to have everything). Finally, I have around 7000 gold that I save for next expansion (that is still growing everyday) as I am satisfied enough with my current collection.

So far so good. I am having a blast with this game and I have variety of viable decks. So, what happens that suddenly change my mind and my perspective on the economy? It turns out that the economy is REALLY supported by the freebies that Cygames give (Daily packs, park keys, events, events, events (many of them), bonus packs from here and there, and recently, 3 free legendary packs). So, as long as Cygames keep pumping up these freebies, I think the economy is going to be fine.

As much as I hate the no liquefy first 3 copies rule (and expensive cosmetics lol), I can't give the game negative review anymore.

Honestly I’m just having a lot of fun with this game and wanted to post something positive about it after seeing all the negative reviews.

I’ll freely admit that I’m not a FTP player, but I haven’t spent a ton (only $200) and I’m really enjoying the fast-paced experience and play styles so far.

I’ve never played the original Shadowverse so I’m not doing a direct comparison here. I will say however that compared to the CCGs/TCGs I’m used to (Hearthstone, MTG including physical) the cost here really doesn’t seem out of line from what I’m accustomed to with this genre. Again, not comparing to the original, just the experience of a totally new player.

I was going to wait longer to write a post like this so I could speak with more gameplay experience, but I have a few decks built with reasonable success and am having a ton of fun, and because I almost didn’t start this game because of some of the negative posts I wanted to write from my experience to encourage other new players to try it out!

I think that point could be debatable. I'm going to argue that it's midrange rather than control. In a control deck, you basically have lots of controlling elements for shutting the opponent down and then finally a concise win condition that you actually score lethal with. In puppet portal the puppets and such are the control elements to keep the opponent locked down, and then ultimately Orchis delivers the killing blow. Sometimes Liam follows up if Orchis barely falls short.

In contrast a midrange deck mostly focuses on throwing value cards at the field until eventually the opponent chokes on it. There's no clear wincon in the deck. Technically Cocytus is there as a plan B, and Cerb is capable of swinging a respectable chunk of damage at the opponent's face via ghosts and Mimi, but those are just opportunistic routes to victory if they present themselves. The majority of the time the deck wins because one of your followers manages to last a full turn because the opponent finally fails to answer it. I have no clue what's going to put the final nail into my opponent's coffin. It could be medusa that they fail to kill, an olivia/ceres double evo, ghost juggler plus a yuna or mukan auto-evolve and whatever juggler reanimates. I don't really care if I draw medusa or olivia or cerb. I can basically make due with any of them. I just need to keep answering the opponent's shit while demanding that they answer my shit until they fail to answer me.

The fact that leader exchange tickets have an expiration date is an argument that KMR is intending to fully remove old sets from the shop entirely once a set rotates out. I think it's worth running a copy of him, but the deck doesn't RELY upon him. I don't have numbers here, but I think satan provides the win less than 10% of the time. He's just legitimately a powerful play turn 10+ if the opponent falters for a moment.

Dragon needs a super overflow mechanic that applies when they hit 10 mana. Super evolution fucked them so hard since it basically means every class has an overflow mechanic.

Also, I'm going to say that honestly Ceres and Olivia are some of the strongest parts of the deck. The portal decks have a rough upper limit to the damage that they can pump at your face and they start choking if they reach turn 10 and realize that Orchis or a Gundam are incapable of storming for lethal.

Likewise, don't be afraid to use a bat token as Olivia's super evo target. It's nowhere near as good as Ceres, but it's cheaper and that extra healing can be the difference between surviving orchis/albert/gundam/etc, and dying. Often the correct play with Cerb is going for maximizing healing too. You've just gotta watch out with cerb. Bat tokens can throw off her combo. You only really want to play the bats if you need to.
