Daily reminder rune will always be the forever pet class, because spellboost is inherently broken. It's the only class mechanic that cheats the most fundamental rule of the game, mana/PP cheating. All you have to do is compare Dragon and Rune to see what a joke this class is. One class has to reach turn 7+ to do 4 damage for 1pp, while the other has can do any amount of damage for 1pp at any point in the game just for drawing cards, and playing fully statted followers (actually above fully statted, both Anne and Kuon have more stats than anything in their pp range). Rune is just dishonest by design, because it's a dev pet class. Just like Blue was in MTG during the early days of the game.

Rune IS strong don't get me wrong. But where it's weak (early game) it's REALLY weak. Sword is a bit more consistent throughout, and seems to also get the most winstreaks probably due to that.

I feel like rank isn't really what shows how good you are. I think moreso than anything everyone is perfectly capable of piloting different decks and doing simple arithmetic and the variance is largely coming from there being decks that are better than others. For me the only real denominator of skill would be the puzzles. Being able to navigate a complex board state and find lethal is what really shows skill and that usually only happens like 2/100 games.

Spellboost rune is probably the most polarizing deck in the game, the deck achieves NOTHING before 5pp and often only tries to survive but after grea drop it gets huge powerspikes thanks to cards like kuon or low pp blaze destroyer drops.
You almost never win games off of favorable controlled trades, your goal is to survive until your big powerspike then you vomit a grea-protected board or an otk kuon or a satan + dshift combo.
If you want to play control/midrange your best bet is probably sword, the deck is shaping up to be (in my opinion) the best deck in the meta right now and its playstyle seems closer to what you're looking for
