I have been playing the game for over a week now on both PC and mobile. I am not F2P as I paid $200 for my first deck. Initially, the economy seems to be very bad (500 gold pack price, lower vial from liquefying silvers, and, critically, no liquefy first 3 copies). I thought it would sucks so bad as a F2P player or a low-spender. One week ahead, I changed my mind. The economy is fine and I can enjoy many good decks. In my current opinion, the only thing that need change is the no liquefy first 3 copies rule.

I am not the luckiest player (no 100 packs key jackpot) and neither I do any reroll. Just straight up normal player that buys all crystal package, plus battle pass. Currently, I have 2 top tier, pretty much fully upgraded decks (puppet portalcraft and artifact portalcraft, 3 if you include hybrid). I also have enough vials from extra cards to upgrade my half-baked decks into good viability (ramp dragon, midrange sword, aggro abyss). The only classes where I don't have enough resources to even make half-baked decks are runecraft and havencraft, in which both have very expensive top tier decks (I am absolutely fine with this, F2P players and low-spenders aren't supposed to have everything). Finally, I have around 7000 gold that I save for next expansion (that is still growing everyday) as I am satisfied enough with my current collection.

So far so good. I am having a blast with this game and I have variety of viable decks. So, what happens that suddenly change my mind and my perspective on the economy? It turns out that the economy is REALLY supported by the freebies that Cygames give (Daily packs, park keys, events, events, events (many of them), bonus packs from here and there, and recently, 3 free legendary packs). So, as long as Cygames keep pumping up these freebies, I think the economy is going to be fine.

As much as I hate the no liquefy first 3 copies rule (and expensive cosmetics lol), I can't give the game negative review anymore.

Honestly I’m just having a lot of fun with this game and wanted to post something positive about it after seeing all the negative reviews.

I’ll freely admit that I’m not a FTP player, but I haven’t spent a ton (only $200) and I’m really enjoying the fast-paced experience and play styles so far.

I’ve never played the original Shadowverse so I’m not doing a direct comparison here. I will say however that compared to the CCGs/TCGs I’m used to (Hearthstone, MTG including physical) the cost here really doesn’t seem out of line from what I’m accustomed to with this genre. Again, not comparing to the original, just the experience of a totally new player.

I was going to wait longer to write a post like this so I could speak with more gameplay experience, but I have a few decks built with reasonable success and am having a ton of fun, and because I almost didn’t start this game because of some of the negative posts I wanted to write from my experience to encourage other new players to try it out!

I thought it was going to be just a lazy GP style matchmaking. It was actually neat how the game actually puts together 16 people for a real swiss tournament and puts everyone in a lobby. They tried to make it seem like going to a real locals. I just wish we could spectate any match. At one point one match was taking a while and it was the last match of the round so everyone surrounded the table (just like what happens at locals IRL), but it was lame how we couldn't even watch what was going on.

The portal player is forced to either use super evo on Sylvia to clear or use their Orchis to trade which means less damage on your face and will likely heavily struggle to kill you unless they can do 2nd Orchis+Liam.

You can also simply heal vs puppets because the only two cards they can hit your face with are those two so just remember how much damage max they can do.

I like it because it's good into face dragon and sword, both of which kinda be kinda rough matchups. You don't really want to commit chalices to the early board clears so it's great for weaker boards, the bird is a nice bonus too of course if there's something that lives that you don't want to leave alive (or just 2 face damage).
I've also ended up using it as a finisher before with a prepped chalice from the turn before + 2 darkhavens to buff the token & an evo. It's an expensive 6-7 damage storm but hey a storm's a storm.

Rune's a overwhelmingly frustrating deck because of how often it can highroll into an instant win, Double Blaze destroyer on an Anne and Grea turn autowins a lot of games and isn't that uncommon to see, but the deck is really really frail against Aggro because while yes, they can draw half their deck by turn 5, that's all they really get to do until turn 5. It's the best non-aggro deck alongside Portal but unlike Portal it kneels hard to toe shifting Aggro meta as people put in tech cards and start building decks to deal with it.
It highrolls semi-consistently and it feels like bullshit when it does highroll, but it has a non-o chance of just dying on turn 4 against a lot of decks and their burst damage is concentrated on a turn 10 play with 0 ramp.
It's weaknesses are hard to percieve, you don't' see the topdeck stormy blast that doesn't clear Forte. You don't see the Dshift rotting in hand while they dig for spellboosts. It's a degenerate deck for gamblers but not uniquely so, I'd argue Portalcraft is much worse to deal with because there's nothing it outright folds to since it can play for Aggro, Midrange or the long game due to Orchis and the Mech pieces.

People hate Rune because they can't see past the curtains and only remember the disgusting highrolls. You should hate on Portal and Sword instead.

btw Anne and Grea is only broken because of Anne, All Grea does is zap something for 3 on Evo.

Sword is in fact completely busted, it just doesn't engender the same hatred because an overtuned stat line is something that can always happen in a card game, whereas Portal's infinite toolbox and Rune's straight up cheating can only happen as a product of dev favoritism.

When I lose to sword it just feels like I got outcurved and didn't have the answers to his boards. Annoying, but doesn't really tilt me.
With Haven and Rune, I'm just watching them play their singleplayer game until turn 5 when they start dropping cancer out the ass cheating out pp and developing overvalued boards then dropping their "I win" on turns 8-10 with minimal board interaction.

Generally speaking, you only evolve for face damage if you get a lot out of that extra reach but you might be getting more milage out of saving them for board control since you have Roach for reach if the game goes long. Try to think about why you're evoing for damage, does it secure lethal in a few turns? does it let you muscle through healing? does it force them to drop PP on healing instead of building their board? etc.
Other than that, make sure you're on a good list and know your sequencing, you can start sequencing your plays during your opponents turn if you're worried about the timer on your turn stopping you from finding lethal.
You could also just be unlucky but you should probably still try to strive for better play inspite of that.

Sometimes it's the right play, but you get 4 evos a game so you want to Evo where it matters. board control means you push damage if they don't drop an answer and if they burn an evo to trade you're happy since you're now in the driver's seat.
