It's closer to compare it to other otaku adjacent media like the influx of isekai anime that exist right now, like Sword Art Online. Despite partaking in what is a male hobby, 99% of the cast consists of cute female characters with appealing designs doing what used to be traditionally male roles. The strongest character in the series is female, all of the party members are female, all the merch and marketing is around the females. Meanwhile, the male is a boring, blank slate that exists solely for the lonely otaku to insert themselves into. As such, female characters are "better written" because the writers know that the audience doesn't care for male characters and give the female characters more agency and presence in the series. And no, shounen anime do not count since those usually target 10-12 year old boys and not the older 20-25 male otaku market.
