Thinking about the differences between this league and last, I think offense was much better optimized this time which is why we had a final 2 days full of bangers. In the group stage, there were a lot more defensive teams compared to 23 but the offense focused ones slowly chipped them away and rose to the top so they could whale on each other in knockouts.

I get they can't dwell on it forever but ASS should really skim all the comments before tackling an issue because there were actual complaints about KWABellum's commentary in some of the later responses that were never included in the initial discussion. So ASS convinced themselves nobody had any legitimate criticism about his commentary because only the first few responses were in play. /admin/ has yet to say much so I would like to speak on a decision that will be probably made soon on auto-mentalties in PES17.
As discovered before, PES17 has hidden values that link PES16's Numbers in Attack/Defense values to the Auto-mentality system. This was modified in the 4cc files to be set to Many/Many. This causes the default Auto-mentality to generally use +1 in possession and/or and -1 when out of possession and/or losing (I think - I'm not 100% sure). However, this is not the only way that auto-mentality is designed to be used. Instead, within the gameplan's Simple-settings, if one is to turn on Fluid and Auto-change Atk/Def level (auto-mentalities), you can access different auto-mentalitied included in the game with these fluids. These elements do not need to remain on to keep this auto-mentality function, so one could adjust their formation still. Pic related is the natural auto-mentalities.
However, with the current 4CC files, these no longer work correctly and the only* (not 100% on this one) working auto-mentality is the +1/-1 one. Effectively, the other auto-mentals, especially the LongBall and QuickCounter's neutral/+1 style are unavailable within the 4cc database. This seems to be intended.
The issue is that this can be easily bypassed by simply loading the tactics from a stock PES17 team (i.e. Lazio). This ignores whatever things have occured within the 4CC files. This is the method that /vrg/ used in Survival Round to acquire this same auto-mentality. Subsequently, /vg/ League has banned* this and, though they've not decided on a final ruling, I have spoken with a member of /admin/ and it seems their plan is to ban this for being too arcane, even if enforcement of it is difficult since it cannot be seen until the match starts.
I am personally in favor of allowing all auto-mentals or at least that the QuickCounter one be the "default", but I am mainly making this to make people aware of the decisions over of shilling my personal points.

After that, all you have to do is go to a real team, turn on the automental and fluid settings, save the formation, save pes and then restore 4cc edit and put that one cpk back. You can then just load the formation on /yourteam/'s slot, save and replace your SYSTEM file.

As someone who's legitimately experimented with this change before, it's not a silver bullet because 1) you can't change it during a match 2) it follows the retarded auto-mentalities implementation so if you lead or are losing by 2 at the half, it sets you to +1 or -1 regardless of whether you have the ball or not. Even at 60 minutes or whatever it will go +1 or -1 depending on whether you're winning or not. You need to design your export around the mentality if you want to use it beyond situationally.

I think that going to GGSS actually fixes this a little bit because it almost forces you to have at least one set-up player be a non-medal which means if your set-up Silver is purple, you are often not losing out too much if you can grab a red non-medal.
But in GGSSS most people throw all their medals across the frontline which means if their silvers explode they get really really hurt by it.
This is partially the reason I am an advocate for the medal DMF because then it lets you use a C10 CMF or AMF if you're freaky with it.
Or, if you're really freaky with it you run non-medal set-up WMFs.

A while back I read someone's suggestion for buffing specific stats for a player based off of their chosen playstyle so it's not like point buy. In singleplayer PES you can do training that buffs specific stats depending on what playstyle you're training for so they used that as a basis for what stats are buffed. I think something like this could give people more options for building non-medal players on a team since non-medal forwards would have buffed shooting stats at the cost of lower stats elsewhere and defensive GK would give a different set of GK stats compared to offensive. Unlike point buy, you could set up the editor to update the stats when playstyle is changed so no clicking autism is needed.
To illustrate what I mean, a blank non-medal would still have 77 in all stats, but a non-medal B2B would slight (like +2 or +4 point) buffs to stamina, att/def prowess, low/lofted pass, but -2 debuff to heading, jump, kicking power, place kicking. A non-medal with prolific winger would have a buff to speed, explosive power, dribbling, and finishing but a -2 point debuff to defensive skills and things like jump and header.
