NR is pure co-op and ER favored co-op and had surrogate co-op in spirit ashes to simulate the effect. It had bosses like Festival Radahn that were thematically meant to be done as a group and tons of duo bosses that became normalized if you used your spirit ash without copes or were playing with friends. ER also had some lore stuff about all the various pvp centered groups being failures or misguided idiots or out and out sociopaths.
If you played ER free of any DS bias about being a tryhard or strugglerman playing wildly underleveled the game was fun and community oriented in game, not just online.
You can still play the game as a not-DS clone solo at rl80 and it works too so that is awesome. But anyone can tell you the game feels more natural if you abandon those tropes and just play it as co-op or use the ashes to be a summoner when you see that icon pop up to let you summon your ashes.

Magma wyrm hits everywhere, death bird sweeps everything (and conveniently turns off your status build). If you're anywhere near heolstor or Astel or Tree Sentinel or a basic crucible knight, you have aggro. Attack 3dog from the front? You've got aggro. Near libra? Every attack hits in a 180 cone in front of him, 1 is targeted on every single player, 1 shoots in a wide aoe array at three different ranges, and 3 are huge fuckoff aoes.

Very few fights that matters in this game attack in a narrow cone.

I needed a heolstor win for a remembrance and :
failed run with duchess and executor
failed run with raider and wylder
won run with guardian and revenant.
revenant was doing good damage with lightnings but most importantly guardian had a weird weapon art.
he'd scream, and enemies would catch on fire.
I don't know what it was but whatever it is, it needs to become part of his kit cause it worked as a perfect taunt.
it was a scream that would hit all around in a good range, but most importantly the enemies would catch on fire and every tick of that fire would make them turn to guardian.
it was literally the first time I saw such a skill and it suited guardian like a glove. with a taunt like that, he really worked perfectly, even with low damage.

I checked it out, it was shriek of milos. it's perfect. alert the YouTubers. guardian needs this in every run.

since it takes up three potential relic effect slots, it's only worth it if overcomes at least three stacks of the highest damage buffs available. mathematically this is at least 4 evergaols, iirc.
and even then, you really only want to be running this if it's gonna get you to dump truck damage, which only kicks in at 5 or 6 evergaols.
it's an extremely worthwhile relic if you are coordinating with two other players who are rolling the same relic. but its value is somewhat questionable when queuing randoms, for the reason you mention.
