Quick repost of the server status:
Server now has fully automated logistics bots, construction bots and roboports. How robust the supply is... well lets not talk about that. I spent couple hours reworking zinc, nickle and chromium for boosted supply but something may still be wrong as soon as the lines clear. Someone also had cut the aluminum gas line so that was out for a while.
Lots of good upgrades on the server today.
Hop on in and enjoy PY!

>>529428536In fact, I felt like making this. Pick which bit you want to know about, and watch it from the start!
>>529435217thinking about what would be a good thing to work on today
maybe get bitumen set up? or titanium, if nobody's upgraded it it's still just going off a tiny trickle
>>529438275I dunno what specific thing needs working on but new chains are always good since inevitably everything will be needed. I think Titanium specifically was still holding up pretty well the last time I checked but there's probably tons of other things that are just out or nearly out or out but hidden by something else that's even more depleted.
>>529436437Linearly interpolated loss.
>>529439261the other thing i'm thinking about is just taking up a square mile purely to produce seaweed because fuck
did weed 2 get researched yet
>>529440186seaweed 2 is relatively late into logistics. You just gotta suck it up for a bit.
how the fuck am I running out of water?
I have so many offshore pumps and regular pumps everywhere
do I really need a multi lane water bus?
>>529441565If only there was a production graph telling you how much you're producing and consuming
>>529440186Bio products, namely seaweed and moss were pretty low when I last checked and there could be more sap too. I think we have sap 2 if you want to do that. Seaweed 2 comes later in this science and moss 2 is next science so that just has to be rawdog expanded if we want more.
>>529441565You don't need more lanes, pipes now have infinite capacity. You need more pumps at the bottleneck or more offshore pumps. Just follow the line backwards until you find water and add pumps to that spot and repeat.
>>529441741That doesn't actually help unless he is storing water since everything he produces he will simply consume. Unless by production graph you mean the rate calculator which would reveal how much he should have and help figure out how many pumps he needs to add.
>>529441840>You need more pumps at the bottleneck or more offshore pumps.it looks like the pump is creating the bottleneck?
it goes from 80 out of 10 -> pump -> 60 out of 10 -> immediate next pipe 10 out of 100)
I just added like 20 pumps and the result is the same
water barely reaching in the decimals
>>529442058>The graph that tells you if consumption peaks then matches production doesn't actually help
>>529442224Well it's hard to pinpoint the problem from your description or the image. Add more pumps into different spots randomly would be my next advice.
>>529442502Well I mean that's what it will obviously tell him but he has already figured it out, he can see that it's fucked and is asking for help. That doesn't help him identify where the problem is in his network.
>>529442224Also in case it wasn't obvious, out of these 3 pump spots you need pumps in the first one or even before that because more pumps won't turn a pipe that's running dry to full when the source side isn't full. You need to backtrace to the pump where it drops from 100 to 80 and put more pumps there because that 80 section is the one that's running out of water. Only after doing that will the following sections maybe have enough water where adding pumps would actually help.
>>529435217>Someone also had cut the aluminum gas lineThat was probably me. I ended up disconnecting a couple of belts and maybe 4 or 5 pipelines when I was reworking the gasoline/aromatics setup. Thought I had hooked everything back it, but I suppose it was inevitable that I would miss something.

I hate it when people act obtuse and condescending when they're fucking wrong. That fucking false-premise, bad-faith, performance intellectualism pisses me the fuck off. Like no, retard, just cause you *think* the question has a simple answer doesn't mean the question doesn't have any merit; it LITERALLY just means this conversation isn't for you and you should let someone who doesn't have to be reminded to breath answer it for you instead.
Some people actually ask questions when the question isn't obvious on second, third, or fourth order analysis and possess the faculties necessary to be trusted they checked the obvious. No, contrary to popular belief these people don't sound ANYWHERE near the same as "help my game won't start" spoonfeed desiring bottom feeders. It's disrespectful to talk to someone clearly not braindead as if they're braindead, you learned that in your sperg socialization class in college. The class that came with the programmer socks anon

My original plan was to send organic dupes to the Polarelin, an inhospitable frozen ball of methane. But then I unlocked the data miner and thought I should go after super-coolant instead. >>529476245are you using this version?
>>529491609There was also a meme about resources never being added. Resources as in being able to mine ore and refine it into fuel. Squad had talks of doing that, but after all these years, it never got added.
Also the general died years before ksp2 was released or even announced I think.
>>529491619I just...still can't really understand the obsession with Factorio. Like, not even Satisfactory was Factorio enough to keep you 'neercels from latching back into riding the meat clean off the bone of that fucking game once Satisfactory wasn't new anymore.
Like...y'all not even like...ANYTHING else? Oxygen Not Included, Space Engineers, Car Engine Simulator, whatever, nothing?
Like even League mfers don't just play League, they dabble in ALL the surrounding cancer. Like only one game exists for you guys and it's basically normies that would be caught dead playing something adjacent or similar.
Wtf did you guys do before Factorio came out? Boot up AutoDesk Inventor 2008 and see how many increments of 1000 hours you can waste redesigning the same pet project that would "be honestly so sick if I just had access to a lathe to make it" despite never once fabricating/machining a SINGLE prototype of said design?
Boy the advent of consumer affordable and capable 3D printing for you guys must've been like fucking CRACK huh. Like giving that tribe with no internet access or smartphones 6 months later everybody's porn addicted no motivation automatons cause they're fucking neurons got blown the fuck out.

>>529493258>Like...y'all not even like...ANYTHING else?I do, but they're not egg

>>529493258I play like 5 /egg/ games, I just never really post about it and I play tons of other games too.
I do, however, wish /egg/ was a bit more diverse in its discussion.
>>529492874Lmao wtf. I was on /mlp/ when the scripture of our people were written and we've got a LOOOOT of fucked mfers but whatever THAT shit is they invented all on their own.
Probably drama local to the general. Weird behaviour like that on 4chan I started seeing show up a lot more once discords for generals started becoming a thing and it was essentially a bleed over from drama in there.
>>529493046This must've fucking been like 2013-2014 cause the "Kethane" mod (infamous for adding in-situ extractable ore that could be converted into fuel on existing craft without going back to Kerbin) has been dead for YEEEARS before the game even made it out of pre-release early access I think (could be wrong) literally because they added that feature into the base game
Like...you've been able to attach a drill to a ship and locate ore, mine it, and process it into liquid fuel and oxidizer using stock parts, unmodded, for at LEAST a decade.
The thing people that I'm familiar was always bitched about but was never addressed by Squad was for gameplay loops to flesh out any reason to go to planets other than for fun. Why make a station? Rovers? Why land on Tylo ever?
Yes career mode addressed it but it only scales well for the first few hours, and then all the challenge disappears, and no one's ever made a decent career mode modification mod.
The answer to this question (and maybe the one you mentioned back in the day too) has essentially been answered by "Colony mods". You add a reason Kerbals need upkeep resources (Life support and habitation), then you add a mod that lets you build out resource chains (a colony mod), and then you add a mod that lets you do something with the in-situ production (Ground Construction to build ships off-Kerbin, Interstellar Expanded to use Metallic Hydrogen or Anti-matter collected, etc)
Damn if the general blew itself the fuck up over literally *Kethane* in like 2013-2015 I wish I woulda been there to see that shit sounds fucking hilarious
>>529494273Finally, someone sane. I knew the answer was more like "because allowed discourse essentially starts and ends with Factorio" for what seems to be going on in /egg/.
Like as a fan myself of a few niches where there's really only "one game" that's the best by far at that thing, if you're actually a fan of the genre you likely dabble in other stuff too. You'd go insane not to
I get the sneaking suspicion that when someone has 10,000 hours in Factorio and that's literally the only thing they're interested in playing, they're not really interested in gaming they're actually just engineers and Factorio is just the one video game that scratches the same itch as engineering as a hobby (like how IT guys build homelabs).
It's like opening Wavedrom and SolidWorks but someone's actually interested in testing your design and giving you feedback (the AI swarm) with cookie clicker "number go up" added on top for good measure.
I'm onto you guys...Factorio is the only one for you cause you guys are just lashing out and living vicariously through Factorio cause Pratt and Whitney isn't hiring anyone to make the next J58 successor except fucking Boomers and real engineering as an applied field is dead compared to the glory days. Very sadge honestly, I know, I know, there there you guys, it's ok. Man. This should be simple but I'm having a hell of a time figuring it out. I'll have 3 processors, one for each asteroid. Is it as simple as "If [M < I] or [M < C] activate"? I feel like there is a newbie trap in that logic somewhere. Should I add another step, deactivate all if M, C, and I are above a threshold just so it's not running constantly?

not really, i just hope that it goes along well
>>529501460Smart. I'll make another platform and give this a whirl. It's the exact exercise I need to improve my circuit game. Thanks a million.
BUT I just did a dumber solution but I do want some input. So I did the 3 crushers with one set to each asteroid type. I realize I had my previous circuits all backwards. The recipe removes chunks and processes it into others, not makes more chunks of the selected type. Okay, so each crusher has its own combinator. They are set "If M>I or M>C, activate" Each combinator has different positions of M, I, and C to match the crusher. You get it. Then I have one last combinator saying "If each M, I, and C are > 50, turn off" and that turn off signal overrides the crushers so if there is more than 50 each then the crushers won't run at all.
What's wrong with this system? I'm sure it'll work but isn't necessarily the best solution. What's the downsides of this setup? Slow and is running too often and may delete a few asteroids. Is that about it?

I don't think and didn't imply people must only like Factorio out of oblivious sigma at all. Just that maybe that the reason why it's only ever Factorio (and not even other genres of other games) might be because Factorio is so good that it attracts people who wouldn't have played video games without it existing? If anything it was overt praise for Factorio, underneath the joking speculation and condescension.

>>529504674I'm elated that it's the guy who made the DayZ mod who's also the head of a fairly well funded indie company who's taken on the project.
So that shows the talent involved and pedigree of which, and it inspires confidence that he sees no need to rely on KSAs potential success at some point to acquire funding, so not only are they not in a rush, the pace is so relaxed the devs get the opportunity to cook up and play with solutions that normally would be deemed superfluous to spend significant time on from the marketing/C suite (like rendering all HUD elements as individual separate fragment shaders instead of textures, meaning you can perform lossless quality scale transformations on them like they were vector images/SVGs).
It's also inspiring that they seem to be a very technical team, so it's like a team of just devs, no marketing, C suite, or project managers with KPAs to uphold to tell them "no" to ANY idea they might have (cause the CEO is literally technical staff not business since he's the dev that made DayZ so he's on board with every idea if it makes sense).
So this means we're getting all sorts of insane dev-wet dreams, like a custom/purpose built engine for KSA instead of Unity, Unreal, or Amazon's dog (it's actually just a framework/API written by them around the bare, raw Vulkan API calls, but they're essentially bootstrapping that into an engine for the game), and therefore tons of solutions for long standing problems in the genre.
For example they've completely decoupled the physics from the world rendering state so unlike most engines, nothing has to be loaded into a "scene" for physics calculations to be performed on them, they've made planets a seamless billboard to tessellation gradient or something so you get high resolution visuals as you approach for nearly no cost
Really, all sorts of exciting "God this is how it should've always been stuff". They've even hired most of the KSP 1 and 2 modding-turned staff on board

Like... What the fuck dude? You'd really jeopardize everything for that? How are you gonna afford to keep paying 5-10 industry specific talents (Like Blackrack, the guy behind Scatterer, then Deferred Rendering and the Volumetric Clouds mod, hired to do the graphics programming for atmospheric scattering and volumetrics on KSP 2) industry competitive salaries for 5+ years??
There's no way he could justify paying out of pocket 5-12 people 70-120 grand USD per year (and he earns in AUD so probably even worse for him) to work full time on KSA without even paywalling the game at any point behind like 10 bucks even?
It just seems like blatantly irresponsible to throw away literally a dream A-team by banking on being able to have enough excess revenue from your already released 2 games that you can afford to hemmorage almost 1,000,000 USD PER YEAR in salaries and expect it won't effect your business at all to then be slightly concerned about it (??)

Also what
>>529508851 anon said. The solution I posted relies on throttling chunk input via grabber filter setting.
The real bother here is the reprocessing recipe. It collides with chunk processing recipes since they too produce chunks.
You have to explicitly send the specific reprocessing recipe.
Okay, after some editor fuckery I'm dropping what I came up with. Mind you, I might well be retarded.
>Asteroid collectorCollector:filter = constant (M,C,I)x10 - (Read crusher loop + loop-crusher inserter:read:hold)
This throttles the chunk input via collector filter setting. Protects the belt from oversaturation.
>CrusherCrusher:recipe = sorter[0]:descending {
reprocessing:M => Hub:iron < constant(iron)*100 AND (Read crusher loop + loop-crusher inserter:read:hold) > constant(M);
reprocessing:C => Hub:carbon < constant(carbon)*100 AND (Read crusher loop + loop-crusher inserter:read:hold) > constant(C);
reprocessing:I => Hub:ice < constant(ice)*100 AND (Read crusher loop + loop-crusher inserter:read:hold) > constant(I);
Each:constant(iron,carbon,ice)*100 - Each:hub
}
The main course. This unholy abomination is my solution to the problem of reprocessing the excess chunks without causing problems with (lack of) other products.

Does anybody know of such a game? Anybody at least knows where would I find a list of games that were part of that fest?

SO -the "largest" DLC- tried to help out the pathfinding issue by changing the larger single asteroid for a 'medium' one + a bunch of smaller ones however nobody actually spreads duplicants around nor performs routine maintenance as the one time they cleaned up debris was enough, and eventually they drop the game because of "late game lag" and not because of a chain of performance killing decisions.

the only time when it matters would be for making universal crafters, where you need to craft components first before the final product to avoid a deadlock.
if you really want to make a priority list, then you can just break everything down to basic logic. Suppose there are possible signals A, B, C in that priority order. If A > 0 then transmit A. If A = 0 and B > 0 transmit B. If A = 0 and B = 0 and C > 0 then transmit A.

You get sone raw data and you transform it step by step until it's in the form you want. Then, you realize you can spli the signal, apply two transformations on the same signal, independently, then you can merge it. Fibally you may you allow some signal to "skip" a step, but that may introduxe timing issues.
Anyway, the only factorio-specific knowledge is understanding that combined signals get added up, there are no signals with value 0, and how wildcards work.
>How do you set it up to send different signals one at a time if several are true? Like do you need two combinators to say "if X true -> transmit A" "if Y true - transmit B"? How do you just send one at a time if both X and Y are true? Wouldn't having both A and B being sent at the same time muddy up things downstream? That's why the second example had the selector as the outermost combinator, it allows you to select a signal with value as the priority
>In this mode, the combinator sorts its input signals by value and outputs one of them at the same value. Before, if you wanted to prioritize B over A you needed to add a combinator to emit -A so it zeroes out, conditional of B (and A)
>>529593171You will need 3 combinators for that though, right? Like they all take the same input wire but each combinator sends its own unique true signal, yeah? Or is there a clever way to squish that all into one combinator that sends out a signal depeding on which part is true?
Someone please play workers and resources and post about it here. I don't feel like playing it but I wanna see someone else post stuff about it.
How's the early start dlc?

>>529596905You made me change my mods and reload Spage
Here's one of my combinators for deciding which reprocessing asteroid recipe to set. Basically it's a shitload of if and statements. If the number of metallic and carbonic chunks is below the number of oxide chunks and oxide chunks are above the level I want to maintain on the belts, then it fires the oxide chunk reprocess signal into the crushers and the reprocess ice chunks because they're all set to "set recipe". Each chunk has its own decider combinator which decides when its own reprocessing signal is fired
It's a jank solution because if the signal disappears before the recipe starts the inserters will just take the chunk out again, but when you're moving between planets you get so many chunks this doesn't actually matter.
I actually have another set of combinators that change the asteroid crushers to shift between basic and advanced processing depending on if I have "enough" copper, sulfur, and calcite since the basic recipes output more iron, carbon, and ice, so you only want to use the advanced recipes when you need advanced products
>>529598620Oh yeah and the reason the small oxide asteroid signal is there is because I control things like how much of each item is allowed on the belts before it gets flung into space or the threshold at which chunks get reprocessed by changing values on a single combinator (mostly)
>>529598620Ugh. Christ. Thank you. Answers like three questions and the main one I was trying to ask. That's basically how I have my setup now, except instead of setting a recipe it turns on the intserter that feeds a crusher that has that recipe set. Same, but different.
Four questions, actually. I just spent forever typing something up and answered my own question. Great. Fantastic. What is that last symbol there? The third comparison? Ice chunk is > than what?
>>529598884Small asteroid? That's the last one? That's the actual asteroid floating in space before a collector grabs it, yeah? How are you counting asteroids that are in space?

>>529600316>>529598884>the small asteroid symbolOH. Wait, I think I got it. Its not something your detecting, its just the value you are tweaking. Like you have a constant combinator somewhere putting out that signal, right?
>>529585737It's alright anon, I had to fiddle with it myself too.
Splitting things between just two channels is a pain as well. I'd love having an extra wire color/channel to keep things neat and separate. RGB ftw.
As for the physical layout:
>C0 - hub content filter, every value at 1 (optional)>C1 - constant for chunk limit, all values at 1, group multiplier is 10>C2 - constant for processing product limit, all values at 1, group multiplier is 100>D1-3 - deciders with the same layout of "if G:product:threshold < R:product:hub AND G:chunk:threshold < R:chunk:crusher loop then reprocessing recipe">A0 - hub content filter R:Each * G:Each (optional)>A1, A2 - arithmetic combinators with R:Each - G:Each'Roid collectors' filters is set by wire, crushers' recipe is likewise set by wire.
Wires dangling about for clarity, usually I just chain-wire things, like with the crushers.
I hope this will clear your confusion. Please feel free to reverse-engineer it to your heart's content, it's how I learned things too.
The biggest selling point here is the fact that you can scale this thing to any number of crushers.
Adding new chunk and product types to limit is easy too.
>>529602401Yeah. Sorry I was playing a game I couldn't put down.
I picked that signal because it was related but there was zero chance it could have been picked up by the circuit network. It only exists to define the reprocessing threshold

it seems that by the time I put down rails the bugs are already squashed from the area anyways.
>>529609934When my base gets big enough, I like to have a single artillery train periodically go to multiple stations I set around my perimeter to shoot down any bases that start getting close to me. I guess the alternative would be to set turrets at my walls but I didn't feel like doing that.
>>529609934Artillery trains are useful if you want to push out to capture new ore patches that are far away or maybe your base isn't a square so you don't want bots flying over biters trying to deliver shells to the frontlines.
>>529609934>Do you guys ever use artillery trains?I think I used to
These days, since you need Vulcanus to make artillery and I don't want to leave Nauvis undefended, I just have an auto-resupplying wall at every chokepoint. Since it's supplied automatically I don't care if it gets attacked a lot
Once I come back and need to make space, I usually have a shitload of U is for Uranium...Bombs and a mech suit so it makes more sense to just clear nests manually with extreme prejudice and slap up a new autowall (the wall is also built automatically)
>>529605497Godspeed anon.
>Looks like I was trying to overcomplicate some parts of it.When in doubt, make things as generic as possible, break things down into identical modules with only minor variations (i.e. the decider block in the pic).
Then see if you can generalize it further through the use of Each wildcards, using in-channel summation (i.e. inverting hub content and just plugging it into the circuit, letting the desired thresholds get cancelled out outside a combinator).
If all else fails, start fiddling with it to see what happens if you do X. Have a power pole handy to see the content of the circuit.
Don't be afraid to overbuild to do things step-by-step. Compacting it all up from a prototype to workable circuit will be a good exercise.
We're all gonna make it.
Caravans with interrupts are great. The moment you get your first auogs you can mass produce jerky and just have them move all your borax in bulk 500 km away and then just add a jerky outpost near your slaughterhouses. Hassle-free logistics, and on top of that you're already going to overflow on meat anyway.
wish they didn't look like fucking trolls though
>>529609840Potentially never but I think people generally agree that the start is the best as moss, wood, vrauks and moondrops aren't that bad and ash management, needing gasses for mining and the long burner phase are interesting enough compared to most mods. Then the next science is the cathartic phase where you get electric machines. Then the game says "oh you liked that" heres the same but with +2 ingredients for everything and then it keeps doing that for every science after. If you keep liking it then you will enjoy that, if not then you will have a bad time somewhere around the third science most likely.
You can always drop by the server and check that out, were making lighting fast progress over there, giving PY what's what.
>>529619887i haven't even needed to bother with jerky, bug juice produces so many brains that science is oversupplied and they can go to caravans
it is a nice option for all that meat though
>>529620848We do need to switch out from the brains during next science so there's that. On the other hand the brain production you need will vastly oversupply you with meat as a byproduct so you can just switch all the caravans and stuff over to that. I still like worker food however even if it's not logistically the easiest option for the larps. One thing to make it stronger would be lower stack sizes on the other foods on the caravans so they actually have to go to meals every 5 laps for instance if they are on jerky/meat/brains but 40 with worker food.
>>529620848That works, but you're going to wish you had kept all those brains in long term storage in a nice deposit after logistics
Hell, even during logistics because continuously making animal samples is really taxing on the brains, 1 animal sample at full blast needs 9 auog slaughterhouses at full tilt and that's not enough for even 1 logistic spm.

legendary nuclear fuel is a game changer
Hmm, you know, at first I was very impressed by the steam you could get out of a belt of raw coal in Py, by processing down to syngas and using the tall oil from tar recipe. And very dismissive of the electric boilers. But comparing against using coal power plants, fed with coke from the red hot coke recipe, to generate electricity for electric boilers, it seems like you end up using about 1/3 the raw coal to make the same amount of steam. You end up with a lot more ash byproduct as well, of course, but that's not hard to manage when you have the ash -> flue gas recipe.

>>529696804All you need to know is that 2 belts of raw coal alone can power 9 coal power plants, which gives you 660 MW.
Now take this into account
even with destructive distillation's inherent x2.5 energy loss per raw coal to coal stepdown, you get 3 red hot coke a second, which turns into 15 coke. 15x5 is 75 MJ, plus 2 coal dust for 6 MJ extra, which puts you at 81 MJ roundtrip, plus 50 250 Cยฐ steam/s as a byproduct, which is roughly one boiler's (60/s)worth. So it's still a slight loss compared to the 90 MJ you input from raw coal, you lose 9 MJ per second, but at the same time you gain tar and coal gas which you need and can't easily be crafted (especially in the case of coal gas), some good 500 Cยฐ oven gas for your hot air and that 50 steam is easily worth the 9 mj lost per second. On top of that you can use the overflow of molten salt to replenish your spent oven gas to bring it back up to 500 Cยฐ, so not only it gives you useful byproducts and 0.66 GW.but it only makes 2 ash/s which can easily be voided with a burner if you re-rout the coal dust overflow.

A neat thing about the intracosmic blast shot is that (in Spaced-Out) you can shoot down incoming meteor showers from anywhere on the map. My primary colony's defending an outpost which lets me put off making steel. But to do this you have to actually notice them before it's too late. Previous designs with a filter gate (the idea being to let dupes simply walk past) suffered from a flaw from dupes working too fast, so instead I got notified when repairing on-going meteor damage. But it's still manualโprobably you could have a set of six blasters targeting neighbor tiles. However that requires an actual target so would be horrid to setup.

the sprites are high quality and have lots of moving and spinning bits and pieces. I'm a firstpersonfag mostly but being able to actually see a big chunk of the factory all at once is great. satisfactory just looks like a bunch of boxes strung together to me.
>>529785351satisfactory looks retarded simply because it seems like the people designing the map didn't realize it was a factory game. All the buildings and shit float and you make these ridiculous looking factories that don't mesh at all with the landscape. factorio looks beautiful in comparison
>>529651892The robot one is shit. Unlocking a robot that fires uranium rounds on Vulcanus is beyond dumb.
>>529785117that's a different type of sprite, stardew is late pokemon-esque/nintendo cute coded sprite
factorio is atmospheric and crude late 90s PC RTS-esque
but honestly I think the biggest filter is price
Factorio is still very expensive by comparison it's been 5 years since 1.0 release and no sales.
right now Satisfactory is 27.99 and Factorio $35.00 and Stardew is 8 dollars
that's not including Space Age and I know many people consider playing Factorio without SA installed a downgrade on their experience because it's been harder to pull friends into Factorio now that the SA exists and the price with expansion is AAA tier now.
>>529786163>pricethey have almost the same price, and satisfactory is more expensive when not on sale, so I don't see how that's an argument
the argument works for stardew however
I actually think factorio is fairly popular. most of my normie friends have at least heard of it
>>529786716steam sales are very very frequent so the fact factorio never goes on sale does hurt it now that it has an expansion, also this is not the biggest sale Satisfactory has gotten it has gone on 50% sale before at $14.99 and when taking weaker currencies into account even lower so you could find a resale key for 10 buck converted.
I do think price matters a lot, asking friends that has not played factorio now that SA exists usually goes like this:
>"Wanna play Factorio?">sure>"What do I need to buy?">just the base game>"oh there is an expansion, do I need that?">nah we can play base game for now>"oh but look at all these things we'll miss, ugh wait this is 70 dollars now, maybe we could go play something else?"I used to think never putting the game on sale was admirable but now that the game has an expansion that costs as much as the base game I do think he needs to put the game on sales now and then, the game went from a cheap AA/ indie priced to AAA price with the expansion included and that does put people off
>>529788006Make sure to scare your friends off the expansion so they just buy and finish the basegame with you
Of course actually the best experience would be to get both and play with SA but that's 70 dollars so you have to shelter them from the truth if you want MP friends

>>529788006>>529796957>>529790809>>529794418You can buy the base game then pirate the expansion and get complete access to multiplayer, with regular expansion-buying players.

just set up some nuclear missile turrets defending my base.

>Nauvis is thirsty for oil again
>One oil field that's not too tough to get too but it'll still only last a few hours
Hm. I think rocket fuel is the worst offender. Anyone know off the top of their head if it's better to transport rocket fuel or heavy oil around? Cracking it on site is easy enough but I'm wondering if just shipping rocket fuel around is just all around easier.
>>529840479Guess it accumulated over a few hundred years after sour water and exhaust processing. This baby boat will get rid of it now.
>>529845670Someone might want to check my math but I think shipping rocket fuel is better. Takes up more slots but moving the most per rocket launch looks like you want to ship rocket fuel.
>Rockets can ship 100 barrels/trip>100 barrels is 5k light oil>1 fuel requires 110 light oil>Rockets can carry 100 fuel per trip>Converting rocket fuel to light oil, that is 11k "liquid" per trip in the form of rocket fuelLight oil is the most efficient to make solid fuel with. Cracking heavy oil down to light is 40 heavy to 30 light. So I think if you want to minimize rocket launches you want to ship rocket fuel. If you want to minimize space taken you'll want to ship light oil.
I think. Someone might want to check that I got all this right. I just ate like 5 pounds of BBQ meats and I'm sleepy and have the meat sweats.

I hope someone makes some overhaul mods for Vulcanus, Fulgora and Gleba. Add some more resources and buildings, maybe even a second science pack on each planet
Vulcanus could have the resources only spawn in the big worm areas to force you to kill one of them to get them
Gleba could have iron and copper plants you just farm for the ore instead of the bacteria and add other plants for different resources
Fulgora could have a second resource you recycle that then leads to a bunch of new resources

although thinking about it more it definitely gets better past early game once you aren't relying on coal to run your miners and smelters. that shit was fucked.
>>530006905Ash is just a pain because there's a lot of it and I only have yellow belts and nothing else

>>530007628Eh. I just love to see trains humming along so I doubt I'll skip on them. I've heard that treated wood is a good fuel source for them if for no other reason than the lack of ash production, but I don't know if that's true
I clearly need to revive my Nullius train setup for this shit, though. Something to automate trains to only go to a voiding stop if all the stops that I actually need to be satisfied are full. Or...I could just set the voiding stop priority to 0 and have the actually important stops cut off further trains when they're full. Sometimes I forget about the baked in train stop priority that got added
>>530007903idk about treated wood specifically? you'll have a surplus of creosete for it once you set up tar processing at least
all the wood products don't produce ash so they're nice for that, i'm not sure how the various options (logs/wood/treated) compare for fuel efficiency. they're just more than zero effort to produce unlike coal
>>530006062Once you get geothermal power and electric miners, immediately after you start making py science 1, it eases up a lot. You'll also get a recipe later that lets you turn ash into flue gas with just pressurized air, which makes it very simple to void ash if you feel the need to. It does also become more useful later, with things like rich clay from ash.
>>530007332>Ash is just a pain because there's a lot of it and I only have yellow belts and nothing elseAsh is braindead to handle, just use half the belt for fuel the other half for ash then split the ash lane with an underground.
As for boiler inserters it's as easy as 1 in 1 out
>>530007903>I've heard that treated wood is a good fuel source for them if for no other reason than the lack of ash productionIf you can't be assed to get rid of ash then you use wood, if you have an excess of creosote (you will) or need to fuel something that runs through fuel (oxygen furnaces) then you use treated wood
>>530007332>Ash is just a painIronically, ash it literally a hard requirement throughout the game and you will sometimes find yuorself trying to make it when you don't have it.

So I'm digging around looking at nuclear reactor stuff for Factorio and kind of mapping out a space platform. I'm sure I just scrolled past it somewhere but does nuclear fuel raise the tempature in the reactor by an exact amount? I know neighbor bonus and how you pull heat out kinda changes things up but for example if I just have a reactor hanging out on its own, no heat pipes, and drop a fuel cell in will it raise the tempatire exactly 500c? And if I had two reactors together and put fuel in at the same time would both reactors generate exactly 1k heat each?
Mostly I'm just kind of messing with storing energy as heat to reduce the steam tank footprint but I can't seem to find the right info.

Thus, they can buffer 5 GJ of heat energy across their working range of 500ยฐC to 1000ยฐC, and require 4.85 GJ of energy to warm up from 15ยฐC to 500ยฐC when initially placed. Since a fuel cell is 8GJ you will need a few heat pipes connected to your reactor(s) to store all the heat. My platforms use two reactors and 40 heat pipes to store 30MJ of heat produced by the 200s cycle with two cells. Slightly inefficient but it looks cool.
If you use one reactor it will make 8GJ of heat, the reactor will store 5GJ and you will need 3GJ/500MJ = 6 heat pipes.
