Uki Uki Tsuri Tengoku - Ningyo Densetsu no Nazo (Japan) is the biggest piece of shit I've ever tested. There's a garbage buzzing noise that starts when you enter your name. It happens in duck, mednafen and Ares. I can't hear it in the Jap videos on Niconico and I assume they're using real hardware but maybe it's just not picking up on their mics. I want to be 100% certain but it will absolutely not work on a CD-R. So fuck it I guess I'll never know.

>>529513639 (OP)So noob question here. I got Retroarch on a Switch and I wanted to play some Japanese snes games with the Snes9x core but the text while not unreadable is "too pixelated" or sharp. I know nothing about shaders so I tried some crt ones but they all just make it look too blurry or add some weird colour effect. Are there any settings that would make the text more readable?
>>529574113>Are there any settings that would make the text more readable?sharp-shimmerless is my go-to, it can even upscale lowres win9x setups without making the text unreadable
>>529574113>>529574961Yes, what you're looking for is a shader that'll iron out those uneven pixels like the one the other anon mentioned or bandlimit-pixel. If you're not picky, simply turning on bilinear filtering in the video options will be enough for you if you don't feel like digging through the shaders.

In 2006 Hidden Palace dumped a game called Spirit Master (Nov 18, 1997 prototype) and in the 20 years since no one ever bothered to check if it works in emulation. It doesn't. In any of them. Instant black screen. I thought maybe it needed special dev hardware or was dongle protected or whatever but it works fine on my PS1. Excuse my thumb.

You shouldn't go off-topic by explicitly stating this kinda opinion on such hotly debated issues. It's already implicit by entering /emugen/.

Has anybody gotten the latest Ryubing release to work with TotK? They said in the changelog they fixed it, but it still crashes immediately while loading for me.
>>529608440Looks pretty good for a PS1 game. Doesn't look fun, but it looks graphically good, and thats really all that matters.
Alright I whacked it on the Ares tracker and the unofficial tracker. We'll see how it goes.
Yeah, same, can't get it to boot in anything for shit. Beetle gave me some hint about it possibly being a bad sector. Maybe the hardware just glosses over whatever problem everything emu's running into, or the way you burnt it got around it.
I would imagine there's probably some way to force the program to work in emus but I'll be damned if I know right now.
>>529614410Here's the error duck throws up. And I didn't burn it in any special way. Standard x10 speed with regular CD-Rs. Worked perfectly on the first try.
>>529614764Yeah I imagine hardware is looking for something, or isn't looking for something, in this image. Kinda just wanna know how to get it to work in emus at all but there's little discussion. I imagine the image or the files on the disc have to be doctored just a tad.
>>529614908there's not a problem with the game because they posted a video of it working when they dumped it. If there was it would quit to the BIOS screen, not just crash.

>>529615427Redownload and try again, anon. Same issue as the other one. Oddly enough it worked as is in no$psx, that emulator probably doesn't care about the bad license data in the disc image as much as real hardware. Oh well.
>>529615209I'm not arguing that there's something wrong or missing with the emu if it runs in hardware. I just imagine it must be some sort of BIOS or drive emulation problem extremely specific to this.

>>529574961>>529583589Thanks for the suggestions. Choosing one proved to be harder than I thought. Um Jammer is much better made as a rhythm game. Probably the best in the series overall, really.

Here's an ignorant question about FPS.
I'm currently playing through Ape Escape 1 on duckstation, and seeing some slowdowns in the larger areas.
My computer is plenty beefy.
I know emulators tend to hold accuracy in high regards and that older games do have some quirks about FPS.
So I'm left wondering if these slowdowns are due to the emulator going for accuracy, the game itself being like this, or some messed up emulator setting on my part.
And when I say slowdowns I mean from 30 fps to 24 until I pan the camera away.
>>529881801I think it's the internal fps who drop in your case, which are not your pc fault, it's just an accurate emulation of the console dying trying to display the game.
>>529883230That's what I was thinking.
It's annoying sure, but not too big of a problem.
Thank you anon.
>>529881801yeah it emulate the slowdown, that's why there's a console overclock setting in the option, which should fix the slowdowns.
I think there's a gpu overclock option too but wtf, I can't find it anymore. Maybe that's just a swanstation option. But just OC the CPU should be enough. Any other reason you're getting slowdowns is you set the runahead frames too high, only 1 or max 2 frames is enough or things can get wierd. Could also but your frametime buffer is set too low.

I'm running LDN with a buddy and while it's all gotten smooth - we have shaders, we have DLC, all that shit - the game will suddenly freeze and No Contest despite both of us still remaining in the match. >>529513639 (OP)bros...
I tried installing retroarch, but how do I put the core thing to run my donkey kong country without looking horrible?
the screen looks squished, and it seems more pixelated than what I remember it on the console.
Some guides said snes9x was the best core for it, but I picked snes/sfc snes9x because there were a lot of snes9x, and I don't see any way to make changes on it.
>>530624939The core isn't the problem. It's how you're scaling/shading it. What you're doing is nearest neighbor, non-integer scaling which means it's the raw, original image, but it's stretched to fill the screen with uneven pixels. To fix this and maintain a 'raw' look with even pixels, you need a shader like bandlimit-pixel applied. You could also set bilinear filtering in the video options and blur it a bit if that works for you. Alternatively you can dabble in CRT shading.
>>530626596excuseme but, where should I click so I can modify these options?
Ah hell, it didn't loop, and I need to start using these captions instead of stupid filenames anyway.

>>530629853My favorite shader (sharp-shimmerless) is in pixel-art-scaling. If it doesn't end up working for whatever reason, changing Shader #0 Filter to Linear helps. Once that's done, you're all set. No need to adjust settings, since the shader's doing the job all by itself.

Been a while since I talked about it, but I've decided to redo my 86Box Windows pack. I realized the Socket 7 build I went with was too limiting for those who aren't like me and have a PC actually worth a damn, so I decided to start again from scratch, this time with a Super Socket 7 build. This foundation lets us use not only Pentium MMX processors, but high-end AMD ones as well, including the K6-III+ at upwards of 500 MHz. The good thing about it is you can clock it as low as 100 MHz, as I do here, if you CPU sucks shit.
For the rest of the hardware, I decided on the AWE64 Gold for sound and the Voodoo Banshee for video. Both of these work quite well on Windows and should have good DOS compatibility as well, and having only one video card simplifies the build overall. The Banshee can, of course, be upgraded to a Voodoo 3 if desired.
Speaking of Windows, I decided to replace Windows 95 OSR2 with 98Lite, installed through the Windows 9x QuickInstall project. This is Windows 98 SE, with all available updates, but debloated and using the old non-IE Explorer shell, which means it has almost all the benefits of Windows 98 SE but with a much smaller hard drive footprint, and it's just as fast if not actually a bit faster than Windows 95 OSR2. After a good bit of testing and comparison between the two, it just seemed like a total no-brainer.
Of course, now I need to get around to reinstalling all the games from the previous W95 pack, as well as setting up DOS mode yet again. Thankfully, many of the games are as easy to install as simply copying the folders over to the new hard drive image.
This new pack will still be incorporating both 86Box and PCem, the former for all the cool new features, and the latter for speed. Even my shitty PC seems to handle this machine rather well for the most part at 100 MHz, though, but YMMV.
>>530635063It's in Quick Menu > Shaders > Save Preset.
>>530635221thank you, I found it, I guess I'll be checking each shader manually until I pick one I feel confortable with.
>>529513639 (OP)"Our LDN implementation manages and routes players together in virtual networks on a central server, allowing players to connect to "local" wireless networks over the internet. Ryujinx connects to our server and can set up, scan for and join networks which are fully managed on our side to make them as easy to scan through as possible. Connecting to a network is only the first step, though. When a game is connected to a network, it will start using the BSD service to open sockets to other clients in the network, identified by IPs and MAC addresses provided by the LDN service. This is where our magic happens - BSD sockets created while connected to local wireless are proxied over the internet, to allow players to connect to each other from around the world!
The proxy performs all packet routing between clients of the virtual network. Connections between players are Peer-To-Peer by default (the proxy runs on the host), so long as their network supports NAT configuration with UPnP. This ensures the lowest latency possible between players in each game room. If this fails for whatever reason, or you manually disable P2P, you will still be able to host by proxying all traffic through our servers. If you can't host in the P2P mode, you can let someone else host for most games to avoid this."
if jewtendo killed ryujinx how come they didn't nuke the servers to kill LDN?
So the "SuperFX 3", is this LRG trying to do a Paprium with their "2025 Edition" of DOOM?

somebody should make a usb-to-composite adapter for ez emulation on crt
>>530749349At that point you are making a limited GPU or copying the system's actual GPU frame buffer over to an composite/component adapter to USB, which = lag. At that point you may as well get an existing HDMI/DP/DVI/VGA/ to composite adapter.
>>530749936nta but video over USB exists and is even part of the specification these days and whatever latency it adds is below human perception.
>>530750252You haven't looked into this. Video to USB/DP over the motherboard doesn't work on every motherboard. Even if your card shoots USB/PD out, or your motherboard carries the signal from the GPU to USB, you still need an adapter to actively convert the USB/DP video to composite/component. So you still get lag, smartass.
The only way you're going to get a lag-free video from PC to CRT-TV is via transcoder or if your TV supports whatever cable/output your GPU has.
>>530750252Not him either, but whatever you use to convert to component/composite will introduce lag. Converting something like HDMI/whatever to VGA is lagless with the right adapter, but not to composite/component.
Just get this cheap piece of shit, 3 frames of lag. Runahead/preemptive your crap and it'll be nearly native.
>>530751289>3 framesDude.
>3 frames of run-aheadThat'll result in visible roll back glitches in 95% of games.
... or, yknow, transcoder+AMD GPU. The gold standard. I guess if you don't want to build a PC around it or use a lesser card that's a pain in the ass, but are you really connecting your primary PC to your CRT-TV? Those parts and a build good enough to power it are like $100-150.
Honestly though, as hesitant as I am to suggest this, a MisterPi + analog IO board may actually be the best way to get up to 5th gen to a CRT-TV. I'd consider that if I didn't have a computer and transcoder set up.

I see EWJ anon is still fighting the good fight.
>>530761230Just some chinese crap. Sorry its an hdmi to composite converter actually. Look up SUNNATCH HDMI to RCA(S-Video/Composite/AV/CVBS) on amazon. I'm a compobro myself but I do use s-video with it just because it helps with that noise in the signal but again it depends on what your watching/playing that makes it noticable.

>>530763045Needs a source port.
Just embrace the SCD version with a decent composite shader.
>that moire and compression when I jpg'd it
Oh fuck I need a better conversion algo or something yikes
>>530766384With a file size like that you might as well just use a png.
You could probably use Guest's NTSC shader and use that to perfectly blend the dithering while dialing down all the composhit artifacts so it looks as good as it possibly can.
>>530766439The original png's 8mb. 4K shader shots are yuge. I could probably optimize it a little more and have it look okay, though.
>please fix my emulator for me while I sit back and collect patreon money
>>530766705That's already way toned down and basically svideo, believe it or not. There's hardly any fringing or rainbows or smear in that. Just a grille, scanlines, and horizontal resolution pared down enough to blur the pixels. If you really want an RGB look w/ blending you can pre-apply a shader like sgenpt or cbod, then use something more conservative like geom-deluxe or guest/bezel.
My issue is the colors kinda suffer if you don't do more tweaking elsewhere, and other shaders often result in false positives here and there, which is why I prefer doing all the blending through Guest's shader.
>>530767082Demonstarted here. For some reason pre-applying sgenpt royally fucks up geomdeluxe and produces System Shock 1 drug colors. Cbod works in combination with geomdeluxe, but it's a more aggressive algo.
Okay, I have SGENPT paired with a similar-enough shader to demonstrate the algo. Actually think CBOD looks better in this game.
Here's my attempt with Guest-NTSC (using regular EWJ because I can't be arsed to download the Sega CD version). I only made changes to the NTSC stuff and slightly lessened the default horizontal blur. The mask/scanlines stuff is all default otherwise.
>>530771814Are you using a dithering algo combined with it too? Looks like cbod or similar first, or maybe that's something that can be ticked in guest's options. Haven't looked at that shader in awhile.
Just tried it myself, looks like that's just how it blends stuff by default. Colors are real shot, so good on you for fixing them up. White could be whiter, a problem in many shaders, but you did a decent job.
From looking at the settings it looks like RetroCrisis and Guest are very similar. Looks like it's a fork or addition to it.
These are a must. I have contrast/color/brightness settings for retrocrisis that probably work just as well in guest to maintain the raw image properties, but I imagine you know what you like.

The trick is to change the NTSC Phase to 3-phase, lower the NTSC resolution to around 0.8 so it actually blends stuff, then change the color and chroma settings as seen here so colors are as vibrant as possible. The sharpness parameters are up to taste, but here I basically made it as sharp as possible without making it look blocky.
>>5307733392-Phase and Mixed can both work as well, but I find at its best, 3-Phase just slightly edges them out in sharpness and color vibrancy.
Here's how it looks like with further tweaks to the mask and scanlines.
Hmm, come to think of it, Adaptive Sharpness should be at -10 rather than 10, as the latter seems to introduce some edge artifacts while the former doesn't.
>>530773036Just about every named shader pack, such as RetroCrisis or Mega Bezel, uses Guest as a base now.
>>530773912Now looks a tad contrasty. I should just let you be happy with it. I've wasted some evenings just ticking shaders on and off and comparing the raw image, and sometimes punching up the contrast or colors makes something look better.
>>530774230kek yeah, it's a never-ending chase for perfection. Sometimes I'll come up with something, feel it looks good, save the preset, only to load it again later and decide something's off about it, and in I go again to tweak parameters for an hour. It's probably why I lately have just been using sharp-bilinear, as it Jest Werks. My autism has other outlets, such as minmaxing FF6 or tweaking my 86Box machines.

What game should I play to alleviate my gamer fatigue?
Im trying to get Breath of Fire Definitive Edition to work on my chinkheld. First i tried a prepatched version of the game wich wasnt recognized by Retroarch, then i found out RA can softpatch and put the .ips next to the romfile. The VUs could also be convinced (often at great expense) to do stuff like soft shadows, motion blur, depth-of-field, bump-mapping. Another 'fun' thing about that gen was that nothing translated from lead platform to another particularly well and there's examples to/from all 3. Devs only seemed to make comparable ports by the end of era. All 3 consoles had great looking exclusives, and they'd all run like shit on the other machines unless the effects and maps were reworked.
>>530995898>ps2 has always been considered the most powerful console of that generationlmao
>>531004932Don't even get me started on Sonic multiplats from that generation, Heroes being the worst offender.
>>531005507Please get started.
>>531005594Not even the PC version is safe from its own, odd quirks.

>>531004932And then you have stuff like NFSMW or True Crime on GC. Xbox was the only console that you could 100% say was the most powerful.
>>531007732Except the PC version patched the best exploit in the whole game.
