It's 25% faster at 1080-4k resolutions. But when you go in VR at 4k x 4k per eye 5090 is like double or three times faster than 4090.

It's not always that great, but generally speaking you're right. For flatscreen mods or some of the most complex stuff, like MSFS(Even in non CPU bound scenarios), the lower end gains for the 5090 are like +40-50% range at such res.

When it comes to comparatively more simple games, i.e. most made for VR titles, the 5090 unironically kicks the absolute shit out of the 4090 worse than it beat the 3090. Running resolutions in the 5k x 5k to 6k x 6k per eye at high to even max settings unironically becomes highly viable because of it. Though, it's not universal. Some stuff you can even throw a little MSAA on at that res too, which you sure as fuck could not on the 4090. Those games are more bandwidth than raw compute bound. Some dude ran 12k GTAV, flatscreen, and the 5090 was killing the 4090 by around 2-3x for the same reason.

It's seriously worth it if you're getting one of those stupid high res HMDs, like the Pimax Crustal Super, Play for Dream, or MeganeX 8K

I now play vrchat at 5000x5000 with 8x MSAA. Unless it's a big instance or badly made world it just runs extremely well, 90FPS easy.

Other VR games I just run at 4300x4300 and they all run on max graphical settings at lik 4-8 ms on GPU. The only exceptions are DCS, Assetto Corsa Evo and WRC.

It does, but Pimax's compositor decides to do a bunch of questionable things with how it routes certain SteamVR functions through its compositor and tries to hijack as much as it can. And because of this it led to some dumb things in the past like Tundra Trackers simply wouldn't work on any Pimax HMD, this was back when the only thing they made were base station tracked and didn't have SLAM like the Quest nor their own OpenXR runtime, and it specifically had to be fixed on both team's ends, from what I remember of it. On the plus side, there's usually not too much performance overhead using SteamVR despite not being a native headset, on the downside things like that happen.
