fought my first pvp with a friend against 1 dude we had no idea what we were doing and died like 10x in a row

the stuff the game teaches like parry and strong attack don't work because they just dodge out and any time we got the other guy low on health he just ran away and healed to full in like 5 seconds, he also had a gun that would 1 shot our shields off and a shotgun that seemed to kill through shields with a fire attack

If you're playing mainly melee? Get crippling strike and make sure you use it. If you manage to lock someone in melee combat with 2 people and you hit crippling strike on them they're pretty much dead already.

watched a video about a "pvp chad" that ran off to a private server because he lost two carrier/sandcrawlers to gangs of scout thopters with rockets. they don't farm spice themselves they just scout the big fields for carriers and call in a zerg.

A reminder that the item repair glitch still works:

1. Place down a chest
2. Put everything damaged in the chest
3. Demolish chest
4. Pick everything up from the ground
5. Log off for at minimum 30 seconds
6. Log back in
7. Everything is now fully repaired

This works for everything which can take damage, including vehicle parts. It also works on fuel cells; they can all be refilled. If you wanted to do mass free repairs before the patch, now's the time.

Test it with a few insignificant items first if you are wary.

We had mk5 powerpacks and while I'm not 100% sure, I'm about 90% sure it was downing our shields in 1 hit, it felt like it but its not like I have it recorded to double check and things were hectic

we were just gonna loot some ship and then got jumped by him, it was a fun fight besides losing but it felt like being seal clubbed cuz we had no idea what we were doing and this guy clearly did

parries basically didn't matter and he pretty much never bothered using them either, it was mostly a bubble shield thing that slows you down and I don't think you're even able to dodge out of it before it lands, a chargeup pistol that was killing shields instantly, a sword attack that took all your stamina in one hit, and a grappling hook to escape and heal in less than 5 seconds any time things weren't going well. He used a flame shotgun too and that killed me in 4 or 5 hits despite having shields up.

Things seemed a little too forgiving for escaping - it wasn't the grappling hook that felt wrong but being able to grapple out and then immediately heal and by the time anyone could get back on top of him he was back to what seemed like full health.

respawns also seemed like they're not going to work well for PVP. We respawned 5 or 6 times in quick succession to fight him again and IMO that's not how that should work. Winning a fight should be decisive not "you get as many respawns as you have time". Why not just do an exclusion zone around the fight so it takes a few minutes to get back to it?

What weapons do people usually use in pvp?

There's no attack that takes away all your stamina in one hit. Crippling strike makes your dodge cost twice as high, so that was probably what he did. The bubble thing is suspensor blast which you use to get people off you and slow them. Only way to destroy shields in one hit like that is with a regis disruptor pistol so that might've been it.

The escape shit is true. They need to make winning a PVP fight more rewarding.

Some of the best unique swords reward parries. Forcing someone to dodge is already a good thing since you're draining their stamina, but the jolt sword and its variants give you stamina back for parrying. Parrying can win you a fight but you have to really master it and they won't matter at all if they go ranged.

enough materials to throw down a 4x7 fob with shields, i'll farm everything else if i come back. got mk5 buggy parts in my bag, assault will be parked, scout in VBT. gathering is piss easy, never got pvp'd, empty ass desert. my friends said they were coming back after trying out the new poe league but they're all on palworld for the terraria collab.

seems like a fair price on my server. can make a mil pretty quick selling certain schematics which is about 330 spice melange, just got enough to build the large spice refinery.

Range PvP comes down to spamming shield breaking or shield pen weapons. If their shield is down then it comes down to just dealing damage. If you're playing with a mate for example and its 2v1, spamming drillshot will pretty much ruin someones day no matter what they do, as they have to dodge to avoid damage but wont be able to out dodge 2x players drill shot spam.

Melee is more complicated than people realise. Everyone/Every NPC has a poise stat which needs to be broken before you can land a heavy blow that is slow and penetrates a shield. Light and heavy attacks (against shielded and unshielded enemies) applies poise damage. Against most NPCs for example, one heavy blow will break their poise, and the second heavy blow will do a slow penetration attack. If you're tag teaming someone, one of you could spam light attacks to keep their poise broken while the other does heavy attacks to land damage. Or one could spam light attacks to keep them poise broken while the other peppers them with shield pen drillshots or shield breaking weapons (so now your light attacks damage them)

In other words if you come up against another player and want to melee them to death while a shield is up, your options are;
1. light attacks until their poise breaks into a slow heavy
2. heavy attack into poise break into heavy slow heavy
3. poise breaking via ability (for example grappling hook, BG skills, crippling strike, ect)
4. poise break by stamina depletion (you can't dodge without stamina meaning any heavy will land)

I suggest testing this all out on an NPC because they operate the same way with poise.

The reason he could is the weird regen mechanic.

When you fall below a certain %, you regen back up a certain amount. Under normal circumstances this takes like 20 seconds to kick in and barely heals you. But BG+Swordmaster have some wild passives. Swordmaster can take a keystone perk that makes it when you fall to low HP you near instantly start regen. BG can take a range of perks that increase the speed at which you regen, the amount you regen, and your total HP.

tldr when I fall to 20% I then jump back to 80% after a few seconds due to BG+Swordmaster.

Focused buggy cutterays feel so bad. They overheat ridiculously fast which is bad enough, but the UI bugs out when swapping seats and shows the incorrect temperature too. Mine two rocks, overheat but drive to another rock, swap seats and immediately overheat again. Shit sucks. I should have just made the normal non-unique version instead.

It's just that there's nothing to really do. You've experienced pretty much everything the game has to offer by the time you get your thopter. I've seen plenty of anons saying "that's just true to lore" or some variant thereof, but the reality is that it makes for a shit long-form mmo. This game should've been a linear single-player game, or at the very most a much more tightly curated coop crafting game. Making it so large in scale might be true to Herberts vision, but it just simply plays like ass in its current form.

Is there some trait or something that gives a discount to spice production?
On basic spice refinery, it costs me 100 spice per 1 melange. My friend has 75 per 1. We just built the medium refinery and he is still getting a 25% discount. I don't see any traits that would give that though, unless I'm just blind.

it's the whole big only zone in the game that you're in that you should have been crafting in the entire time it's on the map it should have been mentioned a thousand and thousand times as you ran across to farm from scraps to copper to iron to carbon to steel to aluminum to duraluminum across sheol, an area, in the hagga basin, the place you should have navigated to at least 50 times by now if you were heading into the deep desert.

Has anyone even found a schematic for these gloves or boots? I've farmed the 3 chests they're meant to spawn in lots but only ever get a Poison Mist or Clapper.

None on the exchange either.

Is it considered rude to roll on the highest pop server possible or can I get away with it by being an afternoon worker and the server doesn't get full untill after I leave for work?

This and spark swords are pretty par for the course after running that place to death. The rare schematic drops are really rare in general so don't be too discouraged. I've only seen one Tarl Cutteray from running Sheol all weekend countless times

For me no. Do a route of something like
>Harkonnen base in north
>Crashed Ship in center, pink room, bracelet is in the vents
>Shaitan's Grotto further south, chest is under rubble to the right in the final room where you'd huff spice in a plot quest
>Wreck of Euporia in southwesternmost part of the area, watch out for minigunnigger. You can reset radiation here
And you fly out with four decent to great schematics you can list on the exchange for quick cash. Add in the Irradiated Slag from the chests in the ship and Euporia for more easy money with minimal time spent. If you want duraluminum, hit Shaitan on the way out and you can max out yours and your vehicles storage with jasmium pretty easily

Total runs take less than 20min with booster and they reset every hour. I think someone said you can swap servers/sietches to farm even faster though I've never messed with that

saturnine stillsuit it's slightly better but they do all the stillsuits dirty by making them strictly PVE gear with no purpose instead of something you wear light or heavy armor with.

The armored stillsuits having no blade mitigation or dash bonus just makes them straight up trash armor and an easier time with water just doesn't matter when everyone's got a decaliterjon to sip infinitely from after killing one of the infinitely respawning NPC's to refill their cisterns.

Since they've gutted any semblence of actual survival mechanics from the game I think they're gonna powercreep stillsuits into just variant light armor.

A backup fuel cell and water. It's a huge map and there aren't any dew fields from what I've seen. If you'd like to make a base, a small bit of salvaged metal to throw down a fief console(make sure you have one open), a very small amount of fuel and metal for your first generator, and two or so stake claims. All structure building costs are halved there, but it's nice to be able to shit out a fief and spread it before anyone can settle in next to you

I'd also recommend boosters on your ornithoptor to make the travel less painful and give you a higher chance of escaping ganks if you stray into the northern half pvp part or too close to a contested zone. Obvious so lategame, but make sure to take your vehicle backup tool as well and keep your thopter protected in case you die!

I've complained about this too but there's really nothing for it.
Make posts on Funcom's forums (do they even have any?) where they might marginally have a higher chance of a community manager seeing it and mentioning it to the developers who will then maybe bother to look at their metrics and see if they'll gain more customers and money in the near term by changing direction.

I don't mean to dishearten you, because I am optimistic eventually they'll add it, but the DD shit has to continue to fail. We'll see after the next couple content patches and as the release-season population surge dies down and they need to drum up attention for their game again.

DD chat in my server is still full of people complaining about being ganked, celebrating good fights, and otherwise warring over spice fields and the always coveted "titanium island". The PvE zone Titanium and Stravidium are so scarce they don't even bother listing them on the (planetologist) DD map website anymore. The Dune stuff elevates the experience for sure. So if you like Dune, you'll enjoy this game. Immersion and atmosphere are on point. For my playstyle, scout all the way. If you prefer shooting over melee, then I'd say stick to heavy.

The only time I bother with stillsuits is in the early game (the unique aluminum stillsuit set is super easy to get in its entirety) or if I'm going off to start a new base, especially pre-decaliterjon. Once you have that big ass water container, stillsuits lose most of their value outside of drip.

I think they might have a genuinely good game after maybe 6 months from now and a few rounds of well-deserved review bombing.

I see no reason to ever use Scout. Melee enemies are never a threat and the stamina loss is irrelevant with Swordmaster skills. The damage reduction on ranged attacks however is massive with heavy armor and the only thing that ever reduces my HP is going to be a ranged player or NPC. It also works best with the OP combination of heal on low HP effects BG+Swordmaster can stack, as in those situations your shield will be down and you need all the damage mitigation you can get while your regen procs.

There isn't anything deep. You either go ranged which is trooper/mentat or you go melee which is swordmaster/bene. Then you just add together all the perks that buff your weapon type, slap on some unique T5 weapon or T6 unique weapon if you can buy it off an AH (sometimes they go for cheap). I think a big problem with the PVP right now is that the deep desert has too many people crammed too close together.

There's nowhere to slip through the cracks and there's not enough places to grab stuff, so 1 or 2 large guilds monopolize everything really good, and what's left after that are inhabited by gankers and griefers who'll waste 6 hours a day with 4 friends camping a loot chest ambushing the odd person who comes by.

If you're just playing on your own, or with a small group of friends, the game content effectively ends in hagga. You don't even get to experience any PVP because the "PVP" that exists is just a number game of gear tiers, skill levels, and friends; individual capability as a player just doesn't factor into it much, if at all, as it's designed to explicitly suppress or avoid individual capability (while giving no in-game methods for effectively grouping with other players - astounding).

For instance, a difference in 2-4 dashes, 50-100% difference in damage, 200% difference in stamina or health or regen: PVP isn't approachable for an individual fighting because of the wild disparity in all of these things between players. This is in line with the typical MMO style, but I don't think anyone has ever enjoyed MMO PVP, and in the few cases it's been ok, there's also been a lot of work put into balancing it. Meanwhile millions play carefully balanced competitive PVP games in other genres, not because they get some kind of crafting reward or higher tier gears from PVP, but because the PVP itself is just fun to play.

I really think this game was designed by a guy who thinks, "I'm level 99 and I farmed PVE mobs for 10 hours a day for 3 months, therefore I should faceroll anyone+1 that I fight"

And that is like year 2000 game design and we've had 25 years now of people trying it and failing every time.

There's no PVP that's ever slowly bringing you into the nolifer realms. You would think that a high disparity in gear would actually elevate individual skill, but you actually see the exact opposite happen:

People compensate for the massive gear/stat differences using numbers, because even 1-shotting a dude doesn't help when 5 or 6 guys are able to CC you with stuns and abilities. Then the gear itself also imparts a skill ceiling on players - if you're the best player in the game but you come across someone else with better gear than you, then you fight at a handicap because your capability is held back by your gear, not your actual skill.

This means that "skill" in fights comes down to farming mats and grinding, not actually being good at fights.

And what's the best way to farm mats and grind? Group up with 30 other players - now not only can you zerg solo's or small groups to take resources necessary for high level gear, keeping it out of their hands, but you also get to outfit your zerg with all the high end gear so even if a good player gets in a matchup 1vs1 he's always at a large disadvantage against 'your guys'.

This then of course further incentivizes joining a single large cohesive guild or group just so you can have access to that gear, which then creates a dirth of PVP in the FFA environment as everyone is defacto friendly with each other so that they can actually acquire the gear to make them good in PVP.

What I think you'll end up with at the end of the day is, ironically enough, a PVE area instead of PVP as the rewards and risks just don't align for anyone to actually venture into a low resource high risk area against people who outgear them AND outnumber them. The only way to play it is to join the largest guild, then farm in relative peace and always be able to dunk on anyone else thanks to numbers/resource access.

Funcom are stuck. Its not a matter of competence, really. I think a few of them have sat down outside of the current effort to quash bugs and do QOL stuff and looked at what the majority of the customer base wants. And they have come to the realization is not something the fundemental structure of the game can be made to support. You cant make the survival crafter portion of the game last longer, as the IP does not support it, and their planned content and its release schedule are not going to sustain a population of sufficient size. The DD PVP crowd will fade away in short order as they get collectively bored, and wont come back. They needed to have a plan to set things right that was acceptable published by now, but dont, and thus have not stemmed the tide of content creators listing what is wrong, which will drive down new sales and will make it a "failed game" in the eyes of the collective gamer public.

They would have to add another planet that is pretty obscure, and off the top of my head, I cannot think of any that would have a survival mechanic that would make sense. Most of the planets listed in the lore are perfectly survivable already; even Arrakis was in the process of being terraformed before spice was discovered. I believe they have possibly set up the planets they would add through the Trials of Aql, where several planets are listed, but I gather none of them are like Arrakis. Beyond that, their own roadmap means that stuff is a year away at the very least, and they would have to blow up their own current release schedule to do it. People are not going to wait that long. And this is not like an MMO where you can just log off and come back six months or a year later and all your shit is intact. Really going to another planet would make sense if you had to abandon you holdings on Arrakis. And the tech tree reseting would not make any sense either, with you either doing the same bits all over again or them doing a bunch of stuff that is not supported by the IP. Also, it would be very much NOT "Dune" anymore. Most of the normies that are playing it only know of Dune through Dunc.

The only other planets that would resemble arrakis in terms of how difficult they are to survive, would probably just be selusa secundus and giedi prime. The former is some kind of death world (I don't think its ever explicitly said how, but I always got the picture of like jungles and irradiated wastelands and mutant creatures), and the latter it sounds like it's basically bad atmosphere, toxic everything everywhere, industrial waste, dim light, and tyrannical government.

That's what DD should have been. Row A is Atreides, row I is Harkonnen, and everything in between is faction PvP grounds. dune as an IP is very difficult to make a live service, which sounds really counterintuitive, but the problem is that to most people, Dune is just the first book of the series (which is what all the movies are based on). Yes, and the only survivial mechanic that would make SS would be radiation, which would have to be completely changed from how it works on Arrakis. Furthermore, Saudakar and non-Saudakar (like de Vries) seem to have no problem with it; House Corrino abandoned it not because life impossible there, just not pretty and inconvinent for the capital of the Empire. GP is polluted, but even in the movie non Harko are on GP (like the BG, unless we are saying they are constanly negating the poison). But even then neither are described as the hell hole that Arrakis is. Also, no one is going to want to live and survive on SS or GP when playing their Dune game; they want to play on Arrakis, becuae that IS Dune.

How effective is The Ancient Way as a deterrent for those 1 or 2 scouts that come in with rockets to large spice fields? I've never used it so I dont know how much damage it actually does.
