It showed how high the stakes really are here and even one fuck up could result in imminent death. The art is chicken scratch quality but It's charming. It still manages to capture the fearful emotions of the characters well, as well as show how how disturbing some of these creatures can look.

OSF is just using the gameplay framework of an existing game (and it also has lots of problems in the currently playable version), and conventional game design wisdom wouldn't even really be applicable to anything else I'm working on.

instead of hard coding the health/damage directly into the player, i instead decided to learn about components in Godot, make a separate component for handling health/damage, and attached said component to the player.

Ive been thinking about the King more, and is there a possibility that he could be some form of bowser? Like a reaaally screwed up version. My interpretation given what we know is that Mario defeated him for good, possibly killed him, and he and peach got married now that theres an era of peace. Thats why they feel safe enough to vacation in the forest, they dont have to worry ab kidnappings or plots againzt them now that hes dead.
The cultists could be followers of bowser, old goombas and koopas and the like. They retreated to the forest, permanently loyal to their king and they started a cult surrounding him. That could be why you get those gruesome text boxes when you kill them, and the accusation of being a crook and being told to "show who you really are" by the King. He sees mario as a crook for killing him and his soldiers, and peach as an accomplice to his crimes. The enemies are in the forest because theyre exiled there, worshippin their fallen king and summoning his spirit to be among them. He's dubbed himself king of the forest due to this, and hes ANGRY that mario once again is destroying his plans and encroaching on his territory. Adding onto that, Mario is now a king and that makes him angrier, and claims himself to be the true king.
This could be why he goes after peach too. He needs a vessel to come back, and taking peach, sacrificing instead of kidnapping, is his ultimate revenge on Mario, the ultimate way to torture and harm him after his perceived crimes

I also don't think the hell stage is the actual biblical Hell. I think it's a premonition or vision. Mario is seeing the destruction Bowser, newly incarnated, intends to commit now. The horns blaring in background is music playing at Bowsers coronation, announcing him as the new true king who is going to destroy the world. THATS why it's called coronation day in the files. Bowser is coronating himself once again and destroying the world for his own gain

I also think its safe to say that Bowser loves red, his color scheme and themeing having a lot of it. There's the patch of ground in Vermillion City where the old coot and his Machomp are flattening it for some project.
Pasta states that this project was for a new Pokemon Tower to essentially replace Lavender Town's as in Gold and Silver, their tower was replaced with a radio tower.
The pasta claims that the a project to demolish the Pokemon Tower and subsequently construct the radio tower was a means of giving a more solid draw to the town, with Giovanni masquerading as a business man to propose the project to the town's mayor as radio had taken Johto by storm, and thus a radio tower would bring prosperity to Lavender Town, but given this is Giovanni...this was also to continue the Cubone shit Team Rocket was doing even after Red shut it down.
Now here's where the Vermillion site comes in. The pasta says that Giovanni was a most superstitious man who actually gave a damn about the souls of the dead Pokemon that resided in the tower, so he planned for the new Pokemon Tower to be made in Vermillion so the bodies/souls of the dead Pokemon could be transferred there and be undisturbed before the actual demolition of the Lavender tower could start.
So he hires an independent construction company to do this so people wouldn't suspect Team Rocket's involvement, this company's Pokemon labor force being Machomps. BUT, the project was apparently plagued with problems. The company's funds were stolen in a bank robbery, their machines suffered failures, and multiple Machomps died which led to Vermillion citizens joking that the project was cursed as it stalled to a halt.
Giovanni fucking believes in ghosts though and is very afraid of disturbing the spirits of Lavender Town's dead Pokemon, and thus refused to go ahead with the Lavender tower's demolition until the bodies in the tower could be transferred to a new resting place. And he continued holding this off until Red defeated him and he gave up his position as Team Rocket's leader.
