why did my opponent resign, I was just about to train my lategame :(

I have 2600 puzzle rating on chesscum with 70% solve rate but I'm hardstuck on ~1100 elo in blitz. Am I retarded bros?
>>529808856chesscum puzzle rating is meaningless, it's designed for engagement. they always give you a couple easy puzzles after a fail.
>>529808856From what I understand puzzle rating on chess.scam is meaningless because you don't loose points if you only get the first move right making it little more than a function of how many puzzles you did
Chess tempo is the best for online puzzles followed by lichess, tactics books are even better
>>529808856How's your rapid rating? Probably not much better than your blitz (below 1500, let's say), which would indicate that you aren't calculating carefully in your games and are missing simple tactics.
Presumably your puzzle rush or puzzle storm (lichess) scores are low as well, which would mean that your recognition of tactical patterns (or ability to find ideas you haven't seen before and perform a basic calculation to verify them) is too weak/slow.
Generally, the archetype of the high puzzle rating, low elo player comes about because the player is afraid of playing/losing real chess games and just spends their time in the low-stress puzzle solving environment.
There is a lot to learn about chess and how to think about positions that you will not get from tactics puzzles, you need to play games.
>>529810065I think on lichess I'm around 1300 blitz. I didn't play enough rapid but I guess I'm around 1400. I lose most of my games due to retarded midgame blunders or running out of time. You're right though I never enjoy playing vs people due to stress.

>>529823948The teams aren't rigid. Whoever shows up will play for your team.
There also isn't a size requirement, anywhere from 1 to 1,000 could participate, but it's a promotion/relegation type of league.
So in the lowest league your top 4 performers count towards your team's point total and if the team finishes high enough in the standings, it gets promoted to the next highest league. As you rise through the leagues, more and more participants count towards the total until you get to the premier league and up to 14 players can count towards your point total there.
It's tough to get that high because some of those teams are very large and can field teams with many titled players.
As I remember, last time we got to about the 8th or 9th league before stalling out. I'm pretty low elo, so I wasn't much of a contributor, but it was fun playing with my /chess/ bros regardless.

I have started doing some puzzles again because I noticed some calculation and evaluation problems during games.
Things have been going better than I would have thought even on the higher rated puzzles (solving on the first try about a third), but the ones like this just make me mad:
https://lichess.org/training/ycpS7
I thought this puzzle was particularly simple, you know play Rh1 at some point, if the d file clears Qd5+ and I was thinking of a line where you could win the rook on c8 with Qb7+ or something like that, so after the d file was cleared I blitzed out Qd5+, which is wrong, and some of the engine lines after the correct move are just incomprehensible to me, for example:
32. ...Rf8, Qh5 Re8, Kh2 Qe6, Bh4 ...
and there a forced mate after 13 moves.
I mean like what the fuck?
The moves in the most accurate line I can understand better:
32. ...Be7, Kh2(???) Bf6, Qh3 Kf8, Rd7 Qg8
I just can't look that deep into the position, sorry? I am doubting anybody can, to be honest. Am I supposed to sit back at some point and evaluate the position for pressure/initiative chances? That doesn't come easily in a puzzle...
nvm ok kh2 prepares rd7, still wtf i can't see that sort of thing 7 moves ahead :(
>>529818805I'm still around from then and I would definitely be interested, although I probably couldn't commit to playing in every single match
As long as people don't mind getting hardstuck at a certain point in the league, it could be fun
>>529813824I can play but chess is my healthy procrastination activity and I don't want to put 6 hours in a row playing serious matches and getting tired...
>>529843491just bullshit puzzles, keep training and that's it, from time to time you'll find those weird puzzles with impossible calculation, don't spend so much time on them, if you don't see it at first then move on, spend 15 or 10 min max and that's it
>>529843491didn't get this one at all
what
>>529848440 said is true, there's just bullshit puzzles sometimes
>>529843491that's a 2900 level puzzle anon. Don't feel bad about about not getting its subtleties. This one is especially hard in that there are many plausible moves at each step.
(An easier side tactic after the right queen move is ... Qxc4 Rd8+! RxR QxQ or Bf8 Qxc8)
>>529847985the arenas are only 100 minutes
>>529847985I have good news for you, anon. Each match is only 100 minutes and you can join and leave at any point during the match. Your points will still count for the team total.
Shitters can participate too, there is no penalty for losing. You aren't dragging the team down by playing. Even one draw or win will earn points for the team and at the end the top X performers will count towards our score. It's more important that we get at least the minimum amount of participants to meet the cutoff than it is that we have one or two strong players participate and nobody else. We'll be competing against 9 other teams simultaneously within each league every match so there will be plenty of opportunities to match up against players around your level.
>>529813824I havent been playing chess or doing a whole lot of chess related stuff the last few months on account of turbulent life circumstances. This will give me the proper motivation to return to the digital board, I would love to play with my friends

>>529833875>>529859772It's a chess league. You play blitz (rotates between 3|0, 3|2, and 5|0) against 9 other teams twice a week on thursdays and sundays and score points for your team. If the team does well, it gets promoted to the next league up. If it does middling, it stays in the same league. If it does poorly it gets demoted to the next league down.

The top 3 teams are promoted to tier 17, and everyone else is left to languish in the tier-18 mire (a wretched pit, a dumping ground for new or extremely terrible teams)
What's so wrong with being good at classical but sucking donkey balls in blitz? Chess didn't get its prestige from blitz, it's a completely different game that is barely even real chess

>>530086839The story goes like this
>Classical: calculation based, mechanistic, drone like, for stupid people >Blitz: creativity, art, Mozart of chess, for real people Of course that's bullshit. Blitz aside, Gukesh decisively proved in this tournament that he is the strongest rapid player in the world. People doubted and called him a fluke after he won the WCC, but in every tournament after the WCC he has proven himself by finishing in the top half or better.
It's clear Gukesh is here to stay. Every "but" about him the old guard had is getting disproven in real time. In classical, he has a winning or equal head-to-head with all of the old guard. He is a mental monster who comes back from two losses in a row in Norway Chess and beats everyone. And now he has the intuition to sweep a field of the world's best rapid players. Gukesh's detractors started with "he was lucky to win the Candidates and face a weak Ding". Now their arguments have been reduced to blitz, which will come with time, and freestyle, lol, as their cope.
Gukesh's favorite player is the great Bobby Fischer. In 1972, people said, "It is hard to talk about Fischer. Since the time that he has been playing, miracles have begun." Today, Gukesh's opponents say that they don't understand his style of chess. They better understand it soon for their own sake, or in a year or two Gukesh will remind the world what a real chess genius looks like.

I am not very invested in the competitive chess scene so forgive my ignorance but are there any plays that gukesh has made that justify the cheating accusations? Like moves that are extraordinary even for a grandmaster coming out of a bad performance in the opening etc.
>>530416137i think its too hard to point at specific moves as proof of cheating when youre talking about GMs, especially when theyre top 10-20 in the world
numerous other top gms think hes cheating though and hes terrible in faster time formats (very common sign of cheaters)
theres also his performance at chennai olympiad which is known to have been full of cheaters

>>530416137The crux of nepo's accusation was that he had insanely low average centipawn loss in the second half of the candidates IIRC it was 7cpl over seven games against the best in the in the world and he was never worse not even for one move
Grischuk argued it was impossible to be that good at classical and that bad at blitz without something fishy going on
Then of course there is the deserved "racism" against indians, they are a nation of scammers who think cheating is a sign of intelligence and they are notorious for cheating at online chess at every level
It's worth noting that india is heavily investing in chess while no other country besides maybe uzbekistan gives a shit, so it's not inconceivable that they would help their top players cheat, it's not that easy to cheat at top level otb tournaments and you would need outside help to do it, although the risk/reward in terms of national reputation is dubious imo
>>530417732>although the risk/reward in terms of national reputation is dubious imonot when people behind the scenes are working to prevent any mention of it. with all the cheating accusations being thrown around (in the professional scene not here) why is no one mentioning indians? why does fide go out of their way to pander to them on social media constantly? why does che$$com have tania on every fucking broadcast?
try finding info about cheating at that chennai olympiad now too - it wasnt even indians being the known cheaters (armenia) but it happened in india and casts suspicion on the event so poof all discussion disappears
I don't think there is that many cheaters in online chess. When I lose it's always because I was a retard, and never because of the other player playing perfect. Even when I thought the opponent played perfect, in post game analysis it turns out they didn't
>>530417732>Grischuk argued it was impossible to be that good at classical and that bad at blitzThat imo is a very good point desu. I understand blitz not being your thing, but he should be at least competitive.
But the guy is playing like an IM, I really don't understand how is that even possible.
He has the opening theory, he more than likely already has a good idea of the plans, he knows his endgames, he should have all he needs to at least put up good fights. But look at that game against Wesley So, he's playing at least 400 points lower than his classical strength. If I would have to play an indian online who is 400 points lower rated in blitz, I would just abort and think he's cheating
>>530425339Don't play rematch after you win, you'll avoid of lot of cheaters this way

>>530429445it was an anon game, are you seriously singling out the only time in the entire game he didn't play the top engine move as proof he didn't cheat?
Look at the time usage too, yes there is a very remote chance I run into a GM playing 5+0 anon for some weird reason but it's infinitely more likely he was just a cheater, this kind of attitude is a big part of the problem and why scum like lordbentham gets away with it

inb4 cheating
Did Beary ever hint that he might return to youtube, or is it over?
A funny chesstempo problem https://chesstempo.com/chess-tactics/152616
It's notable because its standard rating is 950 and its blitz rating is around 2075. Even factoring in the fact that blitz mode has a time limit, that's an insane gap. And the time taken per solve is similar between the time controls in this case.
And the 2000 rated blitz players getting it wrong are *way* stronger than the 1000 rated standard players who don't overcomplicate it and calculate mating lines which don't work (and would be totally incapable of realistically attempting such calculations)

how the fuck people analyze games? i mean your knowledge is limited and it doesn't make sense to analyze something like you what's wrong, i mean i can see when i hung my queen or something but like what the fuck can i do about the rest? people say not to use the engine but idk whats wrong with my play and therefore i use the fucking bastard to "understand" aren't there some guidelines or things to follow to analyze ones games? explain that shit like i was 5
>>530682830Your post-game analysis is just going over your game a second time but with the benefit of hindsight.
Analysis didn't make a whole lot of sense to me either until I started taking notes.
If you aren't spitting out opening theory or making obvious captures/recaptures, make a note of what you are thinking. If you see an unusual move from your opponent, write it down. If you have multiple candidate moves, write down the pros/cons of the candidates and why you decided on the move you played. If the game starts to shift your way or to the opponent, make a note of at what move you began to feel this way. If you hung a piece, write it down. If your opponent found a defense to a tactic you set up, write it down.
What does this move do?
What did I miss?
Where is the threat?
Why did my position feel uncomfortable?
And so on.
Don't worry about getting everything right. The goal is to get you thinking about the things you are learning from books, coaches, and/or engines. Your analysis will evolve along with your chess play and knowledge.
>>530685643do you write notes during the game as well or do you just mean in analysis?
