While the bread is hot, I'll share my theory about the ending.

Since there is only one ending question mark the real event is that there really is only one ending. All routes lead to the same outcome with minor variations that become meaningless by the end.
But
Either after reaching some qualifier or just from reaching the end you get some sort of psuedo-character editor that has a more complex one below it, sort of like Scratch that kids programming software. You can make whatever events you want "happen" by writing it yourself as the lonely god of the world. But scattered throughout this are Goner NPCs you can't control or some other Gaster-style hint system to create a very specific scenario. If you do it right a new ending plays, and is the only one that will play when you play the game.
The final meaning of the words is: There's only one ending, but you decide what it will be.
There will also be a lot of easter eggs for the ending as while the scenario you have to create to change the ending is very specific there are some variations you can make which are mostly funny and uplifting, with a few odd and even bittersweet.

darkners can't survive in other dark worlds for very long. if lancer or roulxs kaard goes with us to another world, they eventually petrify. so here is what i don't understand.

1. how are we able to recruit people to castletown, isn't it just another dark world? how aren't they petrifying there?

2. why is the original starwalker immune? he never seems to petrify in any of the worlds he goes to

3. how come ralsei never petrifies despite being a darkner too?

Suspicious detail I’ve seen no one else talk about: The significance of characters hearing the background music.
In chapter 4, if you use the big piano and play the theme of the first sanctuary, Susie says it sounds familiar. This causes Ralsei to freak out and ask her where she’s heard it, and in response she says she heard him humming it.
So why is the background music only diegetic to Ralsei? What’s special about him? Why is it bad if Susie can also hear it?

And the Beardly call to Noelle in the normal route seems to confirm that Noelle WILL GO WITH BEARDLY in the normal route, and we will go with Susie... The Weird Route, on the contrary, maybe will be a major break up with Susie.

In my mind, it seems to me that we will just ditch Susie and go fuck around with Noelle alone, since Beardly will not be there to screw things over... But maybe he will make an appearance, since Kris may try to abort the Weird Route one last time.

The Mike fight should have been in chapter 3's dark world, the code should have been revealed through doing actual puzzles, the soul gimmick should have been the exact same concept but with the purple soul controlled by your volume, where you move up and down the lines with your voice volume, and the minigames you unlock afterwards should have been what you find in castle town behind the Mike door.

As it is now the Mike fight is great, but doesn't feel like part of the game, just something that Toby added last minute for the Switch 2 gimmick (because that's what it is).

One of the somewhat common things that happens just before someone dies is they have an almost miraculous and unfortunately temporary recovery. Someone with chronic pain might wake up able to move all their limbs just fine; the senile remember their kids, the mute remember how to speak. It's an actual recognized thing, the 'end of life rally' among other names. They look like they've gotten so much better, and then within the day, two days max, they're dead. The thing about hospice rallies is that they don't usually play out this way. It was completely obvious from the get out that he's NOT feeling better.
