the blazing blade was my first fire emblem game.I played it for the first time last christmas. I was amazed at how good it was, not just the mechanics and gameplay but mainly the story. It was so good it invoked something in me from my childhood I havent felt in years from playing Zelda: the minish cap. A lot of the discourse around Engage is just straight up lies, especially the discourse in defence of it. People spent half of 2023 pretending it returned to the core mechanics of the series until it started getting pointed out that most of its gameplay mechanics were entirely new for Engage and it plays nothing like anything pre-Awakening and only really has passing similarities to Fateswakening.

This was something people could have figured out just by listening to the devs when they said Engage was not supposed to be a normal FE game and that it was experimental by design. But stuff like this was basically ignored to prop up the cope narrative that all of its flaws didn't matter because Engage was a "traditional FE game" despite being extremely experimental with gameplay mechanics, being a drastic tonal departure for the series and having an artstyle so alien people were calling its leaks fake because "it didn't look like a Fire Emblem game."

Okay so basically uh

Game sales are measured by two things
The first is "units shipped" which is like digital sales + physical sales sold to retailers
The second is "sell through" which is how many of those copies they sold to retailers actually then got sold to a real human customers

The 1.68 million figure people cite for Engage is the units shipped, not the sell-through. IS never publicly disclosed what the sell-through for Engage was (I'll come back to this later)

What this means is that you can ship a lot of copies to retailers, but if the retailers can't sell them, they are stuck carrying that dead weight and eat the loss

Engage was overshipped, which basically means retailers bought a lot of copies, but then couldn't sell them to human customers because nobody wanted the game

When a retailer can't sell their copies they have to slash the price (this is the origin of the pictures Engage selling for like $5 around January 2024)

If a retailer can't sell their copies, they won't order new copies from Nintendo, meaning that the number of units shipped will barely change (ie the 3k figure)
If a retailer couldn't sell what copies they did have, they don't order more

Basically this means any copies of Engage you saw on the shelves in 2024 were still that initial 2023 shipment that couldn't sell
