I got Verina in my first 10 pulls in the Novice convene then it got replaced by Beginner's choice convene. Was that supposed to happen? Also since I got Verina now, should I aim for a Verina dupe or pick Encore for my main DPS in the celebration gift? Then again I could technically do both for the Beginner's choice convene.

I have no plans to spend money in this game so I do want to minmax my f2p build.

Verina's first dupe is kind of meh but her 2nd is nice for QoL. That said Encore is probably a better pickup than a verina dupe, especially if you are new. You can get a lot of mileage out of her.

I am going to discuss the story, so spoiler warning for the burgers. So if I got the story right

Everything that happened was a story written by Christofo with an alternate version. If you followed everything exactly as he has written, Septimont will be engulfed in Dark Tide.

Carte and Lupa's dark story was not in the past, but an alternate story by Christofo. Lupa almost died in that story, but Carte forced her out of that story and asked her to meet Rover in the next story, since all stories intertwine with each other./spoiler]

This is the part that confused me a bit, so Lupa meeting Rover and both of them participating in the Great Agon is also a fiction?

Besides Carte, Mya is also a Threnodian creation. After Fleur was defeated, this fraction of Threnodian resurged inside Mya and was used by Christofo as an "amplifier" to engulf Septimont in his narrative and bring Threnodian power back by sucking Imperator Central Hub's power. But Rover thwarted this plan and sent Lupa into reality using the script from Frog.

Lupa awakens from the story with her memories of what happened in all the stories. She went to the underwater part of the city to find Mya's remains and learn what Fractidus plans for Septimont. Yada yada, she defeated the remains of Threnodians. Rover and Carte got out of the story, and 3 of them reunited at the end.

Her main issue is low personal damage in exchange for buffs but those buffs are for specific element only and preferably for basic damage type attackers too. Someone like Changli doesn't have any issues with her buffs not being relevant because of high personal damage but it's not the case for Lupa. I don't blame you, even though the plot is simple it's presented in the most idiotic way possible, just like 2.2. Lupa's personal damage is low. This is meh. She's a support, so this is fine, to a point. The actual problems start with:

She's meant to support Mono-fusion. This is less than ideal mostly because it leads into the next problem.

Fusion is not well supported in terms of its roster. The only limited carry you have access to is Changli and the only support you have access to is Brant, who has by far the least ownership among the playerbase.

So if you want a fully strapped, supported preem team, you need Changli (easy enough ask) and Brant (Tougher ask cuz he was an easy skip for a LOT of people at the time).

Without both those characters, Lupa loses a good chunk of her buff value. Of course, you could sub Anko in for Changli or Brant but at that point you're putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

Lupa was released too early in a state where the roster of the game can't make good use of her support, and her personal damage isn't high enough to make up for the difference. I have no doubt a Lupa team could clear, it's just gonna be sloppy compared to any other fully strapped preem team. She's purpose made for any future limited fusion resonators they'll put out soon. Probably Galbrena.

That's the long form. Short version is Kuro released a character with strictly future characters in mind and not so much the current roster and Lupa suffers for it. She's meant to support characters who aren't out yet.

The biggest problem for me with this is that Chagli, who is supposed to be the core of the team, is ALSO a support, so there is no main damage dealer in the team, AND when a MDD releases it's going to replace Changli, so in the end one of the most beloved characters was left as a useless sack of shit without a proper team.
AND even if you complete the premium team, it does LESS damage than other ones (like Zani or Cartethyia, despite asking more). AND Lupa only supports fusion, unlike every other fucking character in the game that can support several other units (even Ciaconna can support Zani and Phoebe).
