Embers problem is she is *only* a heat frame. Look at the other primary element frames. Volt is electricity, but has unique abilities like a speed buff and a shield with interesting interactions.
Half of saryns abilities don't even do toxin damage.
Frost is the closest to ember in design, but even he at least has his bubble which fills a unique niche.
Embers problem is she has no niche, she does what every other frame does, but with heat procs. Let her 2 summon fire elementals, let her 4 create a mini sun that pulls in enemies and burns the shit out of them. Just give her fucking something that isn't 3 different ways of tossing out fire projectiles.

Star chart progress 153/237, I was hit with a million screens and had to select what I guess was a focus (chose Zenurik based on google and seem to have 198k focus in it already? all the others are locked), navigation seems to want me to "Complete VENUS JUNCTION (Earth)".

That is a lot of information. As far as what to do general advice is unlock planets and complete quests. Those will both have you traversing through the star chart and all the serious content.
What gear you use in normal path doesn't really matter, and you'll get better with builds as you go on.
Syndicate doesn't really matter, just whichever unique rewards you like more (everything but the cosmetics are tradable anyways).
1999 is the current end point for main story stuff, with the biggest quest on the way being the new war. So work towards that.

1 gets significantly better strength scaling along with better range scaling so that it acts more like an aoe. 2 makes her immune to heat, blast, and gas along with knockdown immunity; make the higher percentage the meter is affect her damage output on weapons and abilities (50% = 5% more damage, 90% = 90% more damage) but the energy drain starts at 75% now; 2 also gets a new augment that turns that damage modifier into accelerant on hold cast but her bar stays at 50% damage reduction the entire time. 3’s augments are added to the base ability, healing flame aspect generates more overguard because it’s pitiful right now. 4 gets better strength and range scaling, 4 gets a new augment that upon hold cast she gets world on fire albeit weaker than inferno so that inferno is better at dealing damage while world on fire is more for CC. Her passive gets an additional 15m range because even now her passive’s range is too small
