After watching someone play through World 2 rather than subject myself to it again it seems like a common theme. You'll be at the point you have 3 megas in your party and the boss of the dungeon is bringing two champions and a mega. These dungeons should be teams of 3 champions at the very least at this point of the game, with the occasional ultimate thrown in. You can't even say it's a balancing decision to prevent you from getting easy ultimates because the memory thing hamstrings you from using ultimates anyways and you should probably have (the ability to get) plenty already without scans.

Like I'm using this dogshit kludge because I figure I might as well just grind out ABI for 9 digimon rather than run four or five ultimates.

It's just a joke because everyone said Gomamon from the Time Strangers art looks evil. Cthyllamon is the closest to the only recolor of a Digimon from Gomamon's lines since it was his ultimate in the Pendulum. It seriously looks like Gomamon to me. Same eye color and everything. Once someone pointed out Gesomon has Gomamons claws I always saw it as a Gomamon evolution too. Marin Devil to evil Marin Angel just makes sense especially with Gomamon and Gesomon cause squid.

It's relatively easy to beat Machinedramon without ever using the gym in Digimon World if you start with Agumon, but Gabumon struggles so much with the initial 3 battles that even though the path is effectively the same strat (getting Andromon with non-stat requirements), you'll have a significantly harder time making progress with your rookie.
