I would say avoid Hag Navi's and China Girl's since their 4* are good enough to not need a 5* until you're just getting them all, and give particular consideration to Ice girl and Wind Guy since they are the biggest jumps over their 4*, but the best weapon won't do you any good if that character is not on your team and leveled up and everything

The weapon gacha is honestly one of the best versions of it.
It's cheaper by 33% than character pulls and requires 10 less pity. You choose 3 weapons, one "dream pick" and two others. You then have a 50% chance of the dream pick, and if you fail that, a 50/50 representing the other two weapons you chose.
If you have Joker's weapon as the dream pick, then put Marian and Yuis as the other 2, you are guaranteed to get one of those 3 weapons

Because the chink version has already been around for a long time, we already know who's meta and who isn't. If you don't care about endgame content and the currency rewards from it, you can play with whoever you want and still progress the main storyline. If you want to do endgame content you will have to build specific teams and be very careful with limited currency in order to get "must-pulls" like Chord, Ange, Futaba later. Right now the best thing you can do if you care about that is reroll for Joker (Rin is basically his support early game, but she drops off hard later, while Joker does not) and grab as many Anns as you can get.

The "defeat the last two enemies in 1 turn with gun damage"? It feels like a case of bad translation. I've tried several things and can't get it triggered. For one thing, that last battle has 4 enemies, and it's literally impossible (without maybe being level 80 which isn't feasible) to kill them all with gun damage in 1 turn. I tried to just save the two who are weak to gun and just kill them in 1 turn, but that didn't work either.

Any help is appreciated.

My question is : is there something Leanan Sidhe and other old personas can do that would justify still using them, or should I just automatically replace them with the newest batch of higher-level personas I can acquire?

This isn't like previous SMT/Persona games in that regard.
In older Persona games, you would be required to keep a track of registering new personas, fusing them, and keeping them around the MCs current level because lower level personas fall off a roof in terms of power, stats, and also they just do less damage if they are going against much higher level enemies, and also MCs stats are entirely linked to what his current Persona offers him

In this game, MC gains all the stats of all 3 personas equipped, and there is a rank and rarity system alongside the usual level. Leanne's stats at level 35 will outweigh or match higher rank and level personas unless they are also the same rarity as her, and because you also get stats from other persona equipped, her damage won't fall off nearly as hard so equipping her for her strong Psio attack isn't immediately awful.

You should eventually replace them with higher ranked diamond personas when possible, but it's not a neccessity and you can wait until you have better options/more resources.
